Cliff Lee For Rafael Furcal?
2008-05-13 16:32:00 I am in first place in the RotoAuthority League, but not by much. Volvo Stationwagons is at 86.5 points; I'm at 90. My 3.98 ERA ranks fifth; my 1.32 WHIP is sixth. I'm not running away with pitching, but I...

The Amazing Cliff Lee
2008-05-13 13:00:00 A couple of weeks ago, I authored a post where I explained why Cliff Lee couldn’t continue pitching as well as he had in his first three starts of the season, when he’d allowed two runs and ran a 2/20 BB/K ratio. I was right; in the four starts since, he hasn’t pitched as ...

Cliff Lee Cures Blindness
2008-05-13 07:52:00 Cliff Lee threw nine innings of shutout ball to lower his ERA to 0.67. Seriously, he’s not Bob Gibson. He wasn’t even the best pitcher in his game last night. Shaun Marcum got him there. If someone’s buying into Lee’s early season performance, can you command a high offensive guy in a trade? You can ...

Odds and Ends: Bay, Roberts, Cliff Lee
2008-05-09 18:31:00 And here we have some random links I've collected over the past day or so. The Bucs will try to fill their open 40-man spots through low profile moves, not unlike the Jason Michaels one. They won't move Jason Bay or Xavier Nady until they're truly out of it. 4.5 games out of the wild card, they still have a prayer here on May 9th. Keith Law's top 60 prospects list for the June draft has been published. Shortstop Tim Beckham heads the list. Gordon Wittenmyer looks back on the Cubs players rumored to be traded for Brian Roberts. Juan Uribe, partially on the strength of a great takeout slide, still has life with the White Sox. Nick Piecoro reminds us that the D'Backs were close to acquiring Cliff Lee in a deal for Carlos Quentin this winter. That would just be unfair, Lee as a part of that rotation. Ken Davidoff notes that the Mets discussed Lee as well. So...did the Yankees really have a shot at Micah Owings in the Randy Johnson deal?

Cliff Lee Traded!
2008-05-07 13:15:00 A couple days ago, I provided four actual trades for closers to see what the current value is for Saves in AL-Only leagues. There are legitimate reasons to de-value closers in mixed leagues and also in AL- and NL-Only ones, too, but I am not sure that is being practiced outside of "expert" leagues.Today, I want to provide some market data for the value of Indians' lefty Cliff Lee. He has been nothing but stunning this season with a 0.96 ERA and 0.56 WHIP in 37.2 innings. More remarkable is his K/BB ratio of 16:1. His previous carrer best was about 3:1 when he won 18 games in 2005.No one believes Lee will keep this up, but one could easily accept that the K:BB signals something very positive. I did and made this trade yesterday. Included are the salaries and contracts because this is a keeper league and those cannot be disentangled from the players values. An A contract has two more seasons after this one. A B has two with the otion of extending the contract before next season, and ...

28 Scoreless: Breaking Down Cliff Lee?s Streak
2008-05-02 18:00:00 Indians lefty Cliff Lee recently put the finishing touches on an absolutely incredible April. Ironically, the 6 IP, 3 ER, 3K performance on Wednesday night—one many pitchers would love to have—was far and away his worst of the month. He will likely garner AL Pitcher of the Month honors, in unanimous fashion, and ...

Cliff Lee (P-CLE)
2008-03-24 19:16:00 The Indians named Lee the fifth starter in their rotation. He went 5-8 with a 6.38 ERA in 16 starts last year and the Indians demoted him to Buffalo. He went 1-1 with a 5.27 ERA in five spring starts. The Indians believed his stuff improved as the spring progressed. Ripley might have trouble with that one.

Cliff Lee throws 5 scoreless innings, Indians hit 4 homers in 5-2 rain-shor
2008-03-22 22:49:00 Cliff Lee pitched five scoreless innings and the Cleveland Indians hit four home runs in a 5-2 win over the New York Mets in a game halted by rain after seven innings Saturday. The left-hander all but wrapped up the No. 5 spot in Cleveland’s rotation, though manager Eric Wedge did not rule it a ...

Pirates Pulled Out Of Bay To Cleveland Deal
2007-12-16 17:52:00 Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has some new information for us regarding an aborted Jason Bay deal. Kovacevic says the Bucs made a decision through the entire chain of command that Franklin Gutierrez, Kelly Shoppach, Cliff Lee, and a minor league pitcher wasn't enough for Bay and Ronny Paulino. This situation has been confusing to follow from the start, with plenty of conflicting information floating about. For instance, the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes said on Wednesday that Lee and Shoppach were never involved in these talks - the Bucs wanted three to five of the Indians' top prospects. Before that there was that whole business about whether talks had occurred at the Winter Meetings and been revived. showad();

Bay To Indians Talks Revived, Then Dead Again?
2007-12-05 21:24:00 UPDATE, 12-5-07 at 2:24pm: The Indians and Pirates haven't even talked about Bay since the Meetings began. UPDATE, 12-5-07 at 10:58am: Buster Olney says these talks are dead. FROM 12-5-07 at 7:35am: According to Dejan Kovacevic, the Indians felt pressured when they saw the division-rival Tigers trade for Miguel Cabrera. Their response was to restart their conversations with the Pirates for outfielder Jason Bay. A five-player trade is being discussed, apparently expanding upon the rumor originally reported by ESPN's Steve Phillips. The Bucs would send Bay and catcher Ronny Paulino for Franklin Gutierrez, Kelly Shoppach, and Cliff Lee. Looks like the Pirates are seeking MLB-ready guys, though they wanted prospects from the Rangers yesterday. Late last night it was also said that the Padres had jumped into the fray for Bay. It's decent value for Bay, who should really only be traded this winter if the Pirates feel his decline is for real. It's n...

Odds and Ends: Cliff Lee, Edwin Jackson
2007-12-04 17:52:00 You know the drill... Nick Piecoro checks in on his blog. Apparently the D'Backs discussed swapping Carlos Quentin for Cliff Lee before sending him to Chicago. As much as he might've liked to it seems like Josh Byrnes couldn't get a starter for Quentin. Geoff Baker links the Mariners to Lee, Ben Sheets, Mark Prior, and Edwin Jackson based on yesterday's buzz. The Sheets one has since been questioned, since the Dodgers were identified as the West Coast team that inquired. Prior could be part of a Raul Ibanez trade, but the Cubs are first focusing on Fukudome. As for Jackson, the Rays would want more than just Ben Broussard. John Fay believes the Reds will have to part with Jay Bruce or Homer Bailey to get a frontline starter. showad();

Rios For Franklin Gutierrez and Cliff Lee?
2007-12-04 17:03:00 UPDATE, 12-4-07 at 10:03am: Per Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun: no match for the Indians and Jays on Rios. I knew Gutierrez/Lee didn't sound right. FROM 12-4-07 at 9:46am: Joel Sherman has a new column up with some fresh rumors. The Indians and Blue Jays are reportedly talking about a swap that would send Alex Rios to the Tribe for Franklin Gutierrez and Cliff Lee. Seriously? That seems like a lousy deal for the Jays. How long until a debunking on this one? The Jake Peavy signing is a cause for optimism as the Indians seek to re-sign C.C. Sabathia. As you know, the Cubs are all about getting a left-handed hitting right fielder, and Kosuke Fukudome is the best available. Adam Dunn was also on their radar (in right field??) but those talks died. Sherman says if the Cubs don't get Fukudome they could move on to Johnny Damon (in right field??). showad();

Indians send struggling left-hander Cliff Lee to Triple-A Buffalo
2007-07-28 01:12:00 Cliff Lee must start over for the Cleveland Indians. Booed off the mound after being rocked for the fourth straight start on Thursday, Lee was sent back to the minor leagues on Friday, a surprising demotion for the left-hander who won 18 games two years ago. “It’s not easy for us to do and not an easy ...

Cliff Lee Will Start Season On DL
2007-03-12 15:08:00 Cleveland Indians pitcher Cliff Lee will start the season on the disabled list because of an abdomen strain. The lefty, who went 14-11 with a 4.40 ERA last season and is 46-24 since 2004, felt the strain in his right abdomen during a throwing session early in spring training. The Indians hope Lee, their No. 3 starter, will at least be able to resume throwing for the final two weeks of training camp. Lee is expected to be out until mid or late April.Right-hander Fausto Carmona likely will take Lee's spot in the starting rotation, though veteran Paul Byrd or young Jeremy Sowers could be moved into the third spot. Sowers, who went 7-4 in 14 starts after being called up from the minors last June, is listed as the fourth starter. Byrd, 36, who was 10-9 with a 4.88 ERA a year ago, is No. 5. Source: AP
Cliff Lee Has Abdominal Strain
2007-03-10 16:50:02 Southpaw Cliff Lee was scratched from his scheduled bullpen session on Thursday because of a strained right abdominal muscle that has plagued him throughout camp. Indians head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff said the club will evaluate Lee, who has yet to make a Spring Training start, again on Sunday. If the symptoms of the strain are still lingering by that point, Lee would be shut down from throwing for a period of 10-12 days, putting his start to the season in jeopardy. Source: MLB.com
Cliff Lee (P-CLE)
2007-03-03 16:26:04 The Indians announced that Lee will miss his Grapefruit League start Friday with an abdominal strain. The extent of his injury is not immediately known.
