NWI was just like Arizona back before the climate changed
2008-07-02 06:34:00 The Northwest Indiana Times runs a story today about a Valparaiso University professor’s research into the history of Northwest Indiana’s sand dunes. One interesting item of the research is a finding that back in the good old days before the combustion engine, Northwest Indiana’s climate was a lot warmer than it is these days — a lot like Arizona’s climate, according to the professor. This supports the new theory among some scientists that man migrated to North American from Europe rather than Asia over the Bering Strait. We used to think, how could Europeans come over the ocean when it was all ice here, but now we know, it wasn’t ice then,” (VU Professor Ronald) Janke said. In fact, North America, and this region specifically, was rather balmy. “The climate then would be like Arizona is today. So not only was there no glacier here then, but it was warm,” he said. Post from: Christopher Hedges NWI was just like Arizona back befor...

Labour MPs warn of rebellion - again (Planning).
2008-06-05 20:04:00 How long does it take for a government to realise that its policies are a load of old "pony". It's not as if there haven't been any obvious signs:Your party is polling lower than any time in its history. You lose a safe seat up north by a massive swing. The police are taking part in mass demonstrations.Your Leader as an approval rating is lower than a snake's jake. You are becoming dizzy from performing U-turns.Your grass root supporters give you two weeks to get your sh*t in one sock or step down. You face a summer of industrial action.Your Cabinet ministers are jockeying to replace you.Your MPs are rebelling week in week out - if it gets any worse they will start calling Brown "Darth" as he seems to spend most of his time fighting the rebellion.I could go on but I'm getting bored.Anyway, this brings me to today's threat of a rebellion from the Labour backbenchers. MPs are worried that removing the need for ministerial input into planning will make the system less accountable. No ...

Hopi and Navajo Truth Confirmed in Censored Climate Report
2008-06-03 14:06:00 by Brenda Norrell With the release of the US censored climate report — that Bush and his corporate handlers censored for four years — the words of the late Hopi spiritual leaders are mirrored forth. Hopi Sinom, including Thomas Banyacya and Dan Evehema, foretold of a time when hurricanes, storms and wildfires would seize the planet if human beings did not care for Mother Earth. They also warned if the secret agenda of coal mining was carried out on Black Mesa, under the guise of the so-called Navajo Hopi land dispute and Navajos were relocated, that natural calamities would increase. Just a few days ago in the Navajos' Chuska Mountains, I was listening to a traditional Navajo farmer talk about how dry the earth is. Looking at the dry pinon trees and dusty earth, she said it would be hard to get the corn and squash to grow this summer. The earth is so dry that it does not absorb water like it used to. Every year it gets worse. The U.S. censored climate repor...

A climate neurotic's life in pictures
2008-06-03 09:14:00 Yesterday I was contacted by a journalist from Dagens Nyheter. He was looking for people from the new climate movement sweeping across Sweden to portray in an article. He asked how I had changed my lifestyle and if I had any good climate related attributes in my home or everyday life that he could take pictures of. I couldn't come up with any radical things so I don't think he will contact me again.I was inspired by the call so here are some glimpses from my life of doom and gloom.I used to have a bicycle trailer for the kids which I sometimes used for transporting stuff but the kids outgrew it and the design was impractical so I sold it.At work I still use a trailer though. The soda streamer. The cloth shopping bags.Biking all year round.Books to read.Documenting fossil monsters (I caught this Hummer yesterday, it felt like shooting a wild trophy).Documenting temperatures (I think this was January or February)LED-lights.Water conservation. The badge.Buying organic food.Trying out ve...

Is the climate changing in Sri Lanka?
2008-05-31 11:04:00 Is the climate changing in Sri Lanka? By DhaneshWisumperumawww.Nation.lk------------ Climate change is among the major issues discussed in today?s world. Though it was not a key topic a year ago, it grabbed theworld?s attention during the year 2007. The facts revealed by the fourth assessment report published during the last year changed the attitude of the people. Their own experience of the changes taking place all over the world also contributed towards this change. Climate change, its impacts, adaptation, mitigation and climate politics are among the favoured themes now. In the Sri Lankan scenario, climate change will have an impact on a number of fields, which could eventually devastate the agriculture, economy, environment etc. Researches have repeatedly pointed out that tropical region will experience the worst impacts of the changing climate. Energy Crisis in the UK - Go Nuclear go Green.
2008-05-29 11:57:00 The following is taken from the NEI (Nuclear Energy Institute) Website:An International Energy Agency (IEA) analysis found that nuclear power?s life-cycle emissions range from 2 to 59 gram-equivalents of carbon dioxide per kilowatt-hour. Only hydropower?s range ranked lower, at 2 to 48 grams of carbon dioxide-equivalents per kilowatt-hour. Nuclear energy?s life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions are lower than wind (7 to 124 grams of carbon dioxide-equivalents) and solar photovoltaic (13 to 731 grams of carbon dioxide-equivalents), according to the agency. The life-cycle emissions from natural gas-fired plants ranged from 389 to 511 grams of carbon dioxide-equivalents per kilowatt-hour.Many nuclear critics have claimed that new nuclear plants would need to use lower ore uranium, which requires more energy to extract, and therefore would have higher emissions. In response, British Energy conducted a follow-up study that showed even with a very low uranium ore grade, CO2 emissions would r...

The Climate Change Debate and West Virginia

"One of the radio spots comes from AmericasPower.org, sponsored by the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity. The coalition includes most, though not all, of the major coal producers operating in the state. The Associated Press reports on the other group, the free-market espousing Club for Growth, running ads throughout the country regarding the bill. While both spots raise questions about the legislation, the latter group is also focusing on this year's crop of candidates. They include U.S. Sen.
