News: interest view on web hosting in the cloud space
2009-11-19 20:08:00
Instead of hosting your own website, why not host it in the cloud... this blog site is hosted in the cloud. The benefits, backup and resilience all in place. Updates to back end software all done as part of that service... in the case of blogger this is free. Downside. Lack of control and limited to what the free service can provide. Is this a problem, well it depends if you are interested in... This is a content summary only. Visit Truth In Shredding to find out more!
Online Wheels Update – CarWale.com and Gaadi.com On Cloud Nine!
2009-10-28 13:30:00
Red Herring Asia 2009 included CarWale.com as one of the Top 100 technology companies. Little too much as a responsibility to maintain for a long time, I think. Apparently the winners include include Google, Yahoo!, Skype, Netscape, Salesforce.com, and YouTube. We recently saw how CarWale was chosen by Skoda Auto India to launch their new Fabia. With that, everything seems to be getting wheels online with the penetration of the internet increasing each day in different corners of the country. On the other hand flashing in the news we have Gaadi.com ranking second in the Auto Portal category according to the traffic measurement tool ComScore. I mean, did all the automobile manufacturers started giving away free laptops with data cards with Gaadi.com’s marketing pitch installed? Gaadi.com was started by Desimartini’s notable founder Vivek Pahwa getting it to shine among all the online portals dealing with automobile. Like the famous say – One Innovation can change the g...

Attack the Dark Cloud (not the symptom)
2009-09-21 02:00:00
I have spent most of last Friday in a meeting to enable real security communities that produce a Nash Effect for the members (think Network Effect if you like Metcalfe best): how do we get people to come together and get more social, financial and moral rewards from coming together than they can from other parts of their lives (have a look at incentives for more on the three basic kinds of rewards).
What The Hell Is Cloud Computing?
2009-08-28 18:19:00
An Easy To Understand Explanation Cloud Computing is the hottest solution for IT businesses these days and i know there exist a good amount of people who did not understand the concept of Cloud Computing at all. The concept is actually simple. Revolutionary ideas are a bit difficult to understand sometimes. The following video will easily ... No related posts.
Cloud computing: Get on the ground floor
2009-08-28 13:00:00
"The term 'cloud computing' is nothing particularly new or complicated; it simply means that instead of having software on your home, office or notebook computer, you run applications over the Internet," explains Gregg Early. In Personal Finance he looks at three plays on this trend: Amazon.com (NA-SDAQ: AMZN); Salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM); and Rackspace Hosting- (NYSE: RAX)."It’s the way of the future as computing becomes increasingly mobile. I would point out that I’m writing this article on Google Docs. This document is stored on a Google server farm, not on my office computer. "When I want to access this document -- from my house, office, laptop or mobile phone -- I simply go to my Google account and it shows up. This kind of computing has gone from quixotic concept to ubiquitous reality."From a business standpoint cloud computing is compelling because it means a business doesn’t have to buy softwar...
Cloud Computing
2009-08-25 08:55:00
General term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet is called cloud computing. Recently this term is often used because the trend of web service providers now is providing services with Infrastructure as a service. These services are broadly divided into three categories: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). These interconnections ...

Elastic Cloud? Not so Fast…
2009-08-21 15:04:00
Earlier this week, I attended a very interesting CEO roundtable organized by VMware. Around 40 VMware customers and partners (including Intalio) sat down with Paul Maritz (VMware's CEO) for an hour of discussions about virtualization and cloud computing. Listening to customers, I developed a better understanding of the challenges lying ahead for Private Cloud Computing, and the critical role to be played by Open Source software in this radical transformation of the IT landscape. In a nutshell, the hypervisor (VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, etc.) is the next operating system, and it brings elasticity to corporate IT from a technical infrastructure standpoint. Thanks to such elasticity, corporate customers can build private clouds on top of the virtualization infrastructure, leveraging hardware virtualization for multi-tenancy. The challenge in doing so is not so much a technical one, but a business one: licensing elasticity ? or the lack of it. Let me further expla...

Internet Gangsta or Fall Guy for the Dark Cloud?
2009-08-19 02:00:00
I think most of us have heard this proverb: “It takes a village to raise a child,” (popularized by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton). It also, though, takes a community to raise a criminal, to foster him or her and to create the economies that allow criminals to “cash out” effectively.
Dark Cloud
2009-08-18 02:00:00
Everyone seems to be in the Clouds these days. Cloud Computing is certainly something we hear about more and more. The IT industry races full steam ahead into the great shapeless nebula that promises unfathomable rewards such as vast economy of scale and unimaginable resource effectiveness.
Cloud Gate becomes set for Great Nationwide Kiss-In
2009-08-16 17:07:00
Photo Credit: Michael Lehet More than 50 people gathered in the plaza surrounding Cloud Gate during what seemed as one of the hottest days of the year with one thing on their minds - kissing! Saturday afternoon marked the Great Nationwide Kiss-In where LGBT couples from around the country gathered at local public venues to send a message that "Kissing is Good" after three gay couples have recently been arrested for kissing in public. The local 'Kiss-in' was organized by Join the Impact Chicago and even warranted a "warning" from the Illinois Family Institute that told parents to guard their children from such displays.  I'm excited that IFI actually linked directly to my article, and the author even took...
Is Cloud Computing in your Future?
2009-08-11 14:40:00
Free browser-based applications seem to be picking up in popularity. Microsoft will offer a lightweight version of Office 2010. Then there's Google Apps, the Chrome OS, and others. But some companies see only a small fraction of their workforce as being able to use such applications because of secur
In Cloud Computing, Data is Not Electricity

From CNET News.com: One of the most common analogies used to describe the forces behind cloud computing is the rise of electric utilities at the turn of the century. The analogy is useful, but the cloud will evolve in some critically different ways. Read the whole article
Is Cloud Computing Detrimental For IT Professional Jobs?
2009-07-24 12:02:00
(Critical editing by Abhishek Kapoor) Nowadays you must have heard about the cloud computing technology that many IT companies have adopted. WATBlog has reported regularly about the whereabouts of Cloud Computing. No doubt its an innovative concept but somewhere it is threatening IT jobs. IDC has predicted that by 2012, investment on cloud service will increase to $42 billion. Analyst firm indicated that as time will pass cloud computing will become more and more prevalent it will replace the jobs performed by IT professionals. There’s nothing to worry, this won’t happen at least for the next few months. As of now SaaS is in and cloud computing is the next level but not its replacement. It is more likely to take five years for any company to switch over. Initially, cloud computing will create new jobs for monitoring infrastructure performance, datacenter operations, shifting to cloud service provider like Google, Amazon etc. According to Mark McDonald, Vice President of...

Who Is This Cloud For?
2009-06-09 09:10:00
Following Intalio's presentation in London yesterday, Aditya Tuli wrote a critical yet constructive post commenting on the announcements we made recently. I have to agree with most of Aditya's points, and would like to take advantage of this opportunity to clarify a couple of items. First, Intalio|Cloud is indeed targetted at larger organizations, especially the Managed On-Premises option, mainly because this product was designed in partnership with our larger customers. That being said, Intalio|Cloud is also available to much smaller teams, with the On Demand option. Second, we said very little about Intalio|BPM Community Edition indeed, and I will make sure to cover it in more details today in Helsinki, tomorrow in Brussels, and later this week in Paris and Frankfurt. Furthermore, we remain fully committed to our community, and have just put the final touches on Intalio|BPM Developer Edition, which will be formally released on June 16. Aditya, many thanks for your feedback and s...

The Security-aware Cloud
2009-06-05 02:00:00
To build security into the IT infrastructure demands much more than secure software. It is also about having the IT infrastructure products deliver intrinsic security value as a core capability of the product and fully integrated in terms of management and enforcement with the other non-security related capabilities of that product.

Cloud Computing, SaaS and Such--Have We Read This Story Before?
2009-05-05 02:30:00
I have this incredible feeling of déjà vu.Cloud computing and Software as a Service is all the rage. In my practice at PJM Consulting, I am very involved in software startup activity. Nearly every new software company that I see today is being built on the Software as a Service business model. It's all the rage--so much so that it appears that any self-respecting software entrepreneur would be embarrassed to start a company using the traditional software licensing model. Even if an entrepreneur was so inclined, good luck finding a VC who would even consider funding such a company. No one wants to look like a dinosaur. It's all well and good--there is definitely a real trend toward SaaS and Cloud Computing, with many good reasons for it. But most high technology trends are initially a bit over-hyped, and tend to get ahead of themselves. In addition, this particular story seems ever so familiar to a tech veteran that's been around for a few of these cycles. The first bit of history t...

¿Quién Gana? ¿Gatsu o Cloud Strife?

As I got up this morning, CNN was doing a story on how the auto failure may cause Soap Operas trouble -- proving again that pretty much every business could be adversely affected by what's going on in the financial markets, and proving, too, that it's more necessary than ever to find new sources of funding and revenue in these times for your business. If you own a small business, or are starting one, you can still make it succeed in this climate, and you can even make it more successful: you can grow your business and take advantage of the retrenchment other businesses are suffering. We'll pull out of this, and when the country rebounds, the customers will return and they'll need businesses -- businesses like yours -- to sell them stuff. That's why it's smart to consider one of the small business loans from Merchant Advisors. Merchant Advisors has a 90% merchant loan approval rate and gives you answers in 48 hours. 5-7 days after you're approved, you get the money. They'll...

Lasell knocks Brandeis off cloud nine
2008-11-19 17:46:00
Ninth-ranked men's basketball team upset in season openerBy Jeffrey PicketteWith ten and a half minutes left in the second half of the mens' basketball team's seasoning opening tilt at Lasell College Tuesday night, chants of "overrated" from the Lasell faithful filled the gymnasium.Brandeis, ranked ninth in D3hoops preseason top 25 poll, had just called a timeout following a turnover from forward Steve DeLuca (GRAD) and trailed 54-47.The Judges were able to cut into the deficit, but ultimately these same "overrated" chants reverberated as the final buzzer sounded. Lasell avenged its tournament loss to Brandeis in the opening round of last year's NCAA tournament, squeaking by the Judges 68-66 this time around. With the upset, Brandeis falls to 0-1, while Lasell is 1-0.Brandeis trailed 68-64 with 1:43 left to play when Lasell sophomore guard Corey Godfrey converted a layup. The Judges would play suffocating defense for the remainder of the game, but could not muster enough offense ...
Innovation In Security--Lessons from TelePresence and Cloud
2008-11-12 01:00:00
Innovation in Security is a theme that we at EMC and RSA strongly believe in— it was central to my keynote speech at the NCA Security and Technology Conference in Seattle on the 29th of October. Yet, as the day progressed, I could not help but think of how extensively we need to innovate in our security deployments, to enable vibrant new information exchange capabilities, and to sustain the rapid changes in our information-centric lifestyles. And are we being hit with Change! Carlos Dominguez, the SVP at Cisco, spoke to the profound impact of Web 2.0 and TelePresence [TP] technologies on our business and social lifestyles...
MAC IN THE CLOUD: MobileMe for FREE
2008-11-09 00:41:00
I don't know about you, but as much as I've enjoyed dot mac (now MobileMe), I just can't bring myself to fork out another $100 a year for the privilege of having a yournamehere@me.com e-mail address (or even keeping my grandfathered @mac.com address). Yes, I know, there's a lot more to it than that, but here's how I've finally broken the MobileMe stranglehold on my pocket book. I want the backup/synchronization functions I get with MobileMe, it's just in a world of free-mium services I can't justify paying for it. Is that so wrong? The only element I've yet to replace (and I'll be beginning my search immediately before that pesky re-enrollment date comes 'round) is space to host my web sites. I really don't want to re-vamp my sites to fit the constraints of some of the freebie solutions. I just want some basic server space for my existing HTML. When I find something I'll let you know. However, all the other MobileMe functions have been fairly easily replicated. Oth...
