Yahoo Clues – Re Launched
2011-07-01 12:47:00
Yahoo has re-launched Yahoo Clues, a web based trending service that allows users to see what other people are searching on the web. The product initially was launched last year in November. This is being seen as a move which would bring Yahoo and Google head to head for another showdown. A revamp of the original product on part of Yahoo includes expansion from the initial single page version to include information on searches executed globally with the addition of a map feature depicting the originating point of the search. The map feature covers both Local and Global search aspects. Although, Google is considered as a synonym for search with over 1billion users, Yahoo of late has been trying to cope up with the rapidly changing search environment. It planned to introduce new search based features like the decision to release Direct Search in India. The advent of varied metrics in search have brought up the rising importance of factors such as demographics, real time search, marke...

B.C. paleontologists seek clues in rare dinosaur tracks
2008-10-18 01:27:00
From the page: "Paleontologists in northern B.C. are poring over rare evidence that the largest dinosaur that ever lived once roamed the province. In August 2008, a group of coal miners discovered ancient sauropod tracks at a mine near Sparwood, B.C., in the province's southeastern tip near the Alberta border. Sauropods are a group of giant, plant-eating reptiles that roamed the Earth approximately 150 million years ago in the late Jurassic period. Until the summer of 2008, there had been very little evidence of the giant dinosaurs in B.C., and paleontologist Rich McCrea said that's what makes the discovery of a path of sauropod tracks so rare and valuable." HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER 2009: Clues You May Have Missed
2008-10-14 18:10:00
With an opening scene so brilliant you’d think Barney belonged on THE BIG BANG THEORY [would he not make the perfect new friend for Sheldon, Leonard, Wolowitz and Raj?], a string of hilarious interventions [Marshall’s hat would make Joey proud!] and an ending so littered with clues that it almost gives LOST a run for its money, last night’s HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was a return to form for the series and dare we say it, “Legen…… wait for it…… dary!” Like “First Time in New York” before it [the episode where each member of the gang recounts their ‘first time’] “Intervention” allowed for every character to have their moment to shine [particularly Robin in all of her Canadian inebriated glory]. That is, until the gang reached the inevitable conclusion that moving on and growing up is indeed a fact of life. Of course, what still has this TV Addict smiling is that “one year later” final...

DNA Offers Clues to Greenland’s First Inhabitants
2008-06-02 14:10:00
A swatch of hair, so thick and tangled it could have belonged to man or bear, has provided answers about a mysterious culture and its origins half a world away. The culture is that of the first people to have occupied Greenland some 4,500 years ago. Known to archaeologists as the first Paleo-Eskimo culture, it gave way to a second Paleo-Eskimo culture some 2,500 years ago and then 700 years ago to the Thule culture of the present-day Inuit peoples. Some archaeologists suggested that each culture might have descended from its predecessor, but proof required obtaining DNA from the earlier cultures and comparing it with that of the Inuit.Eske Willerslev, an expert on ancient DNA at the University of Copenhagen, recently spent two months in the frozen wastes of northern Greenland. Dr. Willerslev wore a full body suit while digging so as not to contaminate samples with his own DNA. But human remains from the early culture are hard to find, and archaeologists have speculated that the dead ...

Wasps Reveal Clues about the Evolution of Intelligence
2008-05-30 15:34:00

Follow the clues to rediscover yourself
2008-05-25 03:08:00
Each of us go through a process to figure out who we really are.  Some people do not figure it out during this lifetime.  That doesn't have to include you.  Decide you will go the distance to tap into your soul.  Your choice of mentors makes it easier than you think!1) Notice how your mentors change.  Through the process of researching and writing a manuscript, I have read hundreds of stories of people who have influenced my thoughts and behaviors at different life phases. Some people left a lasting impression in person. Others captured my attention with action and what I sensed to be their appealing qualities. Aspects that stand out encourage me to realize I can tap into my hidden self.2) Discern why you label mentors.  I unconsciously put each of my mentors into categories, from nationality, to gender, profession or contribution to society, and based on my upbringing, morals and values. I intially felt this simply helped me to organize...
John McCain has some clues. BO has none.
2008-05-23 15:57:00
WRT to Bit’s post about John Hawkins of the morning. We have seen eight years of presidential leaahrship without a moral compass, the Clinton adminstration.   I do not, and will not agree, with John McCain on all issues.  However McCain does have a moral compass and is willing to take leadership positions.   Two recent examples, McCain was one of the few senators who opposed the bloated farm bill.   With farm profits up, food prices soaring, and BO campaigning a promise of national hunger, he still supported the farm bill.  BO put pandering to Iowa ahead of the national interst. McCain also was one fo the few senators to oppose Jim Webb’s new G.I bill.   This is what BO had to say about the bill on the floor of the Senate: I respect sen. John McCain’s service to our country. He is one of those heroes of which I speak. But I can’t understand why he would line up behind the President in his opposition to this GI bill. I can’t believe why he ...

Diving deep for climate clues
2008-05-07 09:48:00
Earlier in April, UK scientists attending a conference in Vienna warned that sea-levels could rise by up to 1.5 metres by the end of this century, putting low-lying countries such as Bangladesh under threat. One of the main causes is the rapidly melting glaciers which cover huge areas of the world's surface - mostly in the Antarctic, Greenland and the south of Argentina and Chile. Mr Cardenas has discovered several sub species Glaciers melt and grow naturally, but the rate of change is raising concerns. Two million hectares of ice are found in the Magellan Strait at the southern tip of South America. Charles Darwin came here in the 1830s. It is where he began to formulate his Theory of Evolution, before sailing on to the Galapagos Islands. But the remoteness and difficult weather conditions, as well as the high cost of transport, mean few have studied in this particular area since. As a result, there is little scientific data about the fauna and flora of the Tierra del Fuego region...

Does 1976 provides clues to 2008 election?
2008-04-22 23:46:00
Back in 1976, when, after a divisive contest for the Republican nomination, President Ford addressed GOP delegates at the party’s convention in Kansas City, he challenged his Democratic rival, to a series of debates. He hoped such a bold (and novel at that time) strategy would overcome his deficit in the polls. At one point, ...

Clues and toggles
2008-03-24 19:34:00
In continuation of our post of March 09, we are now publishing a DOCUMENT, which points to some differences and similarities in the ways in which the re-opened formal investigations (RFIs) into two major marine accidents: the MV Derbyshire and FV Gaul have been conducted and the reasons why the first was able to deliver better quality results than the second. We considered the formal investigation into the loss of the MV Derbyshire, in which, initially, the Assessors wrongly concluded - on the basis of a rope seen emerging from the Bosun’s store hatch opening and of a simple examination of the disposition of that hatch’s toggles - that the loss of the vessel had been due to crew error. In a curiously similar manner, the Gaul RFI also put the blame for the loss of the trawler on the crew, who, the RFI panel claimed, had neglected to close the inner covers to two openings in the hull - this time on the basis of a ligature apparently holding the vessel’s duff chute inner lid in t...

Flu clues!
2008-03-14 00:39:00
A few weeks ago the US National Institute of Health revealed the reason we all get the flu when it gets cold outside. They've found that "the virus's outer covering, or envelope, hardens to a rubbery gel that could shield the virus as it passes from person to person." However, when it gets warmer "the protective gel melts to a liquid phase" which is not strong enough to stick around for very long. Without an envelope the virus is left naked and not very effective. Moral of the story, skip the flu shot and head south for the winter. Can't go south? Turn up the heat indoors, wash your hands often with warm water, and get yourself a heated face mask! Hehe, ok this might be going a little overboard, but remember Recueilli when the next deadly flu pandemic hits. Here's the link to the original NIH article. Enjoy.
