Iraqis want coalition forces to leave
2007-12-20 22:26:00
Iraqi opinion polls don’t get much play in the US for the simple reason that Iraqis hold unflattering views about the way we’ve wrecked their country. The latest poll conducted by the BBC is no exception. On the eve of the British hand-over of control in Basra, it asked the residents of that province their ...

al-sadr Mahdi militias to stop attacking coalition forces
2007-08-29 15:38:00
Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has ordered a six-month suspension of activities by his Mahdi Army militia in order to reorganize the force, and it will no longer attack U.S. and coalition troops, aides said Wednesday. The aide, Sheik Hazim al-Araji, said on Iraqi state television that the goal was to "rehabilitate" the organization, which has reportedly broken into factions, some of which the U.S. maintains are trained and supplied by Iran. "We declare the freezing of the Mahdi Army without exception in order to rehabilitate it in a way that will safeguard its ideological image within a maximum period of six months starting from the day this statement is issued," al-Araji said, reading from a statement by al-Sadr. In Najaf, al-Sadr's spokesman said the order also means the Mahdi Army will no longer launch attacks against U.S. and other coalition forces. Local population key in Iraqi, Coalition forces steady progress
2007-05-13 18:40:00
When people say we can't win the war in Iraq militarily, they're correct (no matter how bone-headed they are about the specifics). If our goal were to subjugate Iraq and steal their oil, then no, we don't need Iraqi cooperation and yes, a brutal military would be all we need. But, our goal is to have a free, successful, peaceful, and friendly Iraq. And, for that, the Iraqis have to be on board. Thursday, 10 May 2007 U.S. Army Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, the Multi-National Force-Iraq spokesman, and U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. David Edgington, director of the Air Component Coordination Element provided an update on security operations and discussed the contribution of air support to Coalition forces Wednesday at the Combined Press Information Center. ?The future of Iraq belongs to the people of Iraq,? said Caldwell. ?They are the key to the leadership of this country.? ?Iraqi partners must take responsibility for their own security, governance and economics,? he added. Coalition Forces see progress in Diyala River Valley
2007-05-03 07:41:00
Being against the war in Iraq doesn't make one unpatriotic or bad. Remember, however, that many Iraqis depend on our commitment to protect them-for the time being. Do you want to abandon them like we did the South Vietnamese, the Russian POWs after WWII, the Jews on the S.S. St. Louis, and the Cubans during the Bay of Pigs?* *Hey, I love the U.S. and I know these things are complicated, but we've had our share of moments of which we can't be proud. 2006-08-06 18:48:16
More news from the Iraqi Theatre of WWIII…. while our news media sleeps. BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition forces successfully targeted and detained two senior al-Qaida in Iraq leaders and three other suspected terrorists during multiple raids in central and northern Iraq on the morning of July 29. A recent detainee provided information that led the security forces to one of the terrorists, a top leader for the Al Dhuluiyah area.  The targeted individual was reportedly the main planner for the attack against Peshmerga forces at a checkpoint in Al Dhuluiya in May 2006.  Credible intelligence also ties the terrorist leader to other al-Qaida leaders in the area.  In a separate raid, security forces detained a principal financial and logistical coordinator for al-Qaida in the Mosul area.  He also was reportedly the leader of a terrorist cell responsible for kidnappings and executing vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) and IED attacks in Mosul. Ground troops discovered a larg...
