Here's some good news for Europe. The Variety Map Pack for Call of Duty 4 has been pulled forward to give it a simultaneous release worldwide. COD4 fans will be able to get their hands on it this Thursday, April 24th.As a result, the double XP weekend has also been brought forward and will commence at 12:01am GMT on Friday and finishing at 11:59pm PDT on Sunday. Because of the time difference, this means an extra 8 hours of double experience."Play with Infinity Ward" day is now Friday April 25th and members of the team will be playing between the hours of 11am and 2pm PDT as well as between 5pm and 8pm PDT. Sounds like fun to us, we'll almost certainly be playing. Our only question is, if Konami finally gets their act together and begins the MGO beta on Friday, how do we choose between them? It's going to be a busy weekend.

Gamespot is reporting that not only has Call of Duty 4 broken the 9 million unit sales barrier, but they have also broken an XBLA record with over 9 million downloads in nine days!From the get-go, Activision's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was a certifiable hit. Its PC performance notwithstanding, the Infinity Ward-developed modern-warfare shooter debuted with more than 2 million units sold across the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in its first month last November. Though having been available for only two months, the title also managed to take the 2007 sales crown, with Activision saying in January that COD4 had sold 7 million units worldwide by year's end. Proving to have legs beyond 2007, COD4 landed the top slot in the NPD Group's monthly sales dump for January and February, though it was ousted in March by Super Smash Bros. As you may know, the new COD4 patc h is out and supposed to be causing some issues. One of the new features was host migration, a feature that would select a new host if the existing one leaves. Some gamers over at geekpulp having been having this issue to, and here is where the problem stands. It seems that when the host leaves, the new host is often being passed to a American based player, leaving groups of non-American gamers ending up on laggy American hosted servers. Great for them but not for us. Robert Bowling form Infinity Ward has stated: I understand that the odds are typically stacked against some of our more remote players to be selected as host. We’re currently looking at options available that might help out with those odds and I’ll keep you updated on it. So they are working on a patch ..... so update the patch they have just released. I never thought I'd say this, but I have found an FPS that I prefer to play on console rather than on PC. The game is of course Call of Duty 4.  I have previously written about how much better COD4's controls are compared with other Xbox 360 FPSs, but it was only recently that I had the chance to experience COD4 on PC.  The venue was a LAN cafe in Canberra, where I joined around 30 of my workmates for an extended COD4-session. With still 8 days to go before I’m connected to BT Broadband, I thought I would give you an update on the Tiscali COD4 P2P problem. I am able to get into games now when searching (although very slow at times), but trying to invite friends to games that are on Tiscali or if they try and invite me in is near impossible…it works rarely even to the point of switching off and walking away in frustration. Remember the mind blowing news that both PGR3 and Halo3 were not rendered in true 720P HiDef format? No, wasn’t that big was it. Well another title has fallen prey to the same scandal. Call of Duty 4 is reporting to be rendered at a measly 600P, but with the trade off being 2xAnti Aliasing (aka reduction of jaggies aka Chin pleaser) Now here’s the thing, when I played through COD4, one of the things I though and some fellow gamergeeks have agreed, is how friggin amazing the game looks. Running at a smooth framerate, a near constanf 60fps the game looks fantastic. So here’s the question …. If COD4 IS only rendered at 600P, and it still looks as good as it does, who really gives a shit? COD4 getting good reviews

With Call of Duty 4 due out this Friday, some online reviews are starting to appear. Eurogamer are giving it 9/10 : For now, all you really need to know is this a huge return to form for the Call of Duty series, and for war-based FPS titles in general. Even without the vastly impressive multiplayer elements, Modern Warfare would be worth buying for its outstanding single-player campaign. It succeeds not only for being consistently spectacular, but for the way it has been crafted into something that keeps you engaged right to the very end Sounds promising, and to note is the 18 player online multiplayer option. I have heard though that the SP can be done in about 5 hours! This is good news to me, as I don’t have the time or interest to slug away through a lengthy campaign (Half Life 2 for example). I think I will probably pick it up though and see what all the fuss is about.

Props to Becks from Sprites and Bites on this one, but if you goto this gamespot webpage Gamespot COD 4 BETA and sign up for a Gamespot account (or sign in if you have one), click the submit button, then you will have a COD4 Beta key right there on the screen You MUST have your gametag entered in the Preference section for it to work. One SMALL thing to note - it does say if you are over 17 and in North America you can submit. So do so at your own risk Of course if you’re too scared to try, then you shouldn’t be playing it anyway - PUSSY!!!
