Meng Kee Char Siew
2008-05-11 06:13:00 We no longer have to travel all the way to Tengkat Tong Shin in Kuala Lumpur to eat Meng Kee's char siew. The branch in Shah Alam is most convenient since my sister's house is in Ara Damansara.Meng Kee Char Siew20 (Ground) Jalan Pekedai U1/36Hicom Glenmarie Industrial ParkShah AlamTel: 0193793629I feel that the char siew is by far the best - but of course you have to ask for the cut with a bit of crystallized fat. Eating lean char siew just isn't right! Then again with my cholesterol so high and having now to take medicine for it has persuaded me to consider my health and suffer eating lean meat.Good food don't come cheap so don't be surprised if you take away char siew with rice for one person and end up paying RM5! And having lunch there with a few people and ordering the works, meaning, char siew, bean sprouts, stuffed intestines, rice and drinks could set you back quite a bit.It is quite worth it though :)Yummy char siewFat juicy bean sprouts with fried shallotsStuffed inte...

Leung Kee Wonton Mee, Taipan USJ
2008-01-25 09:31:00 Malaysian Chinese food is really a melting pot of all the food from various province of China. We get the best of all kinds of Chinese food originating from different provinces. Of course the food could have changed because of the influences of spices and chili and also from the other cultures of Malaysia. We had wonton noodles for lunch on of the few days we were in Kuala Lumpur. It is something that I did crave for when I was away from Malaysia. You can get wonton noodles at almost all coffeeshops but there are of course, the few favorites. We didn't get to go eat at Ho Weng Kee at SS2 but Leung Kee's wonton noodles are not too bad too. I like my noodles, soft and smooth but some people actually prefer their noodles to have a rubber band texture!Pickled green chilies are a must with Wonton mee.Wonton skins were smooth and the filling very tasty. They are always served separately with soupwhen you order your noodles dry.We ordered and extra bowl of prawn and pork dumplings. The nood...

Is Amsterdam about to lose its coffeeshops?
2007-05-29 13:21:00 Coffeeshops and Amsterdam: it?s a world-renowned combination that can no longer be taken for granted. While Amsterdam still has the highest concentration of coffeeshops in the Netherlands, and indeed in the world, during the past 12 years their number has been reduced by 33 percent. If the recently installed government gets its way, things are about to get worse. Much worse.

2007-05-02 06:03:00 I crave for Ipoh Sar Hor Fun! Seriously! We headed for Ipoh old town. The coffeeshop with the mirrorsThe coffeeshop with the better Hor Fun!I can never remember the name of the coffeeshop but I know that it has huge mirrors on the wall and that's how I describe to my friends. I now know the place is called Thean Chun or House of Mirrors! This time, I also took pictures. But we actually ate next door and I found the hor fun better and tastier!!Ipoh Hor FunLots of shrimps and shredded chickenI ordered a big bowl and everyone laughed at me! They thought that I should save some space for popiah, chee cheong fun and satay but I was only interested in the noodles. Lai Foong Coffeeshop
2007-04-25 07:40:00 Nice new looking signboardThe Street where the Coffeeshop is locatedLai Foong Beef NoodlesSince 1956I remember eating there when I was very young. Mom would take me on the notorius mini buses into the city so that she could shop for foodstuff at Petaling Street (Chinatown) and we would always have lunch at Lai Foong. When I started my chambering, or pupillage to be admitted to the Bar, my office was situated in the building next to Lai Foong. I remember countless bowls of beef noodles during that 9-month period. It has been quite a few years since I've eaten there. Lai Foong has expanded to take over a coffeeshop next door. I remember that the coffeeshop next door served one of the best wanton noodles. The secret ingredient in their wanton seems to be minced anchovies. I couldn't tell if the same stall is still operating.I like dry hor fun noodlesAah...beef meatballs, delicious beef soup withlots of chines parsley and salted vegetables, and pieces of sinful lard! There is always this...
