Redfin is in the process of taking resumes and interviewing Agents in Seattle (and likely San Francisco, SoCal, Boston, DC, and Chicago, but I am not in the loop with those markets). 3 Key Elements For Cold Calling Effectiveness
2008-02-08 12:41:00
When most people hear the words “cold calling” a wide range of emotions typically flood the mind and body, and most of which are less than pleasant. It is true that there are some drawbacks to cold calling, and it is certainly not the most glamorous and sexy tool for growing a business, however cold ...
No More Cold Calling Leads - Just Closing Deals
2008-01-19 04:32:00
Calling Cold Calls is simply tiring and annoying. People hate cold calling "Fake Leads". People also hate being on the receiving end of a cold call. How many times have you been watching your favorite show and the phone rings, and guess what a telemarketing. That is probably the most annoying things that can happen to you. Most cold call leads are really not leads at all, they are "Fake Leads". The Sales person did not buy leads, they bought a list of contact names. You can get the same effect from cold calling people from the yellow pages. A little know fact is when a telemarketing computer system goes down, guess what they pull out, the yellow pages!Getting a prospect for a mortgage for example is the most difficult part of a sales job. Most people do not buy cars from people calling them to sell one, why would it be a better idea to call them about mortgages? (which is usually a lot more than a car).Real Leads are real people actively looking for the product or services that you a...
Cold Calling Made Easy
2008-01-14 00:20:00
In my ten plus years of sales and marketing work with small businesses, many of them would ask me “Does cold calling really work?” They would profess to be leery of doing it for fear of rejection or simply through fear of making the call. They had questions such as: “I hate feeling like I'm being sold, so I want to learn how to come across less like a salesman.” “What's the MAIN purpose of cold calling anyway?” “Is it to get the decision maker's name or to make an appointment?” “Do you recommend phone calls, or personal visits, or mailing literature first?” “How often should I try to contact a person?”First of all I want to mention that you need to make sure any list of names or prospects or whoever you are calling is not on the Do Not Call List or you could get in big trouble. Go to donotcall.gov to find out more about it or to sign up as a consumer or a telemarketer.I did a little research online before I sat down to write this and I found just a ton of ...
Stop Cold Calling and Double Your Sales in 30 Days
2008-01-11 04:33:00
Everyone knows what “cold calling” is, but how about “warm calling”? That’s easy, warm calling involves contacting your former clients and people you have already identified as prospects. These are the people you had made previous contact with and are listed in your database or on your Rolodex. If appropriate for your industry, I recommend spending one hour a day calling your database. To gain the greatest benefit from your warm calling efforts, you should provide an exceptional level of customer service and give unexpected bonuses to your clients throughout your sales process. This way, your past clients will be happy to hear from you and eager to help you find new business.Let’s see how you can “heat up” your warm contacts to create hot new business leads.Build rapport – All right, it may have been some time since you last talked with your contact, so a little refreshing of his or her memory might be necessary. Use the time to re-establish your relationship, inform ...
Sales Voicemails That Generate Call-Backs to Increase Sales Prospecting Suc
2008-01-07 17:40:00
How do I get C-Level buyers to return my phone calls? Be Likable. “How,” you ask, “am I supposed to do that, when I’ve never even met the prospect, and I’m leaving a voicemail?” Follow these 6 Steps to get your prospects attention when you leave initial voicemails:
Overcome Sales Objections: ?We don?t need your service.?
2008-01-03 15:25:00
This objection means one of two things. Either: “I have no problems related to your services right now,” or “I am too busy with something else to talk to you,” or BOTH, which is probably the case. While customer profiling and targeting are keys to developing new accounts, sales prospecting is still a numbers and timing game. The fact ...

Unique Cold Calling Technique Helps Increase Prospecting Success
2007-12-13 14:05:00
Successful sales racehorses understand that most prospects hate to receive traditional cold calls, and their first thought when they answer the phone is typically, “Oh no. How do I get rid of this caller?” The primary reason for this is that nobody likes to be sold. As a result, sales laggards often dread-and even fear-telephone prospecting. Consequently, they fail ...
No cold calling in the winter!
2007-12-03 03:19:00
It’s time to forget about cold calling and move towards “warm calling©.” The marketing and advertising textbooks I am using still tell students to rely on referrals and cold calling to find new prospects. I completely agree with cultivating referrals from people you know and have worked with, but I can’t believe we ...
Cold Calling
2007-11-29 19:44:00
So to continue on yesterday's train of thought... Before I had my motivation adjustment, I had long had a mechanism in place for making the cold calls and scheduling appointments. This too had it's own unique mind set. Again when I first started out, the thought of making cold calls was paralyzing. I would literally sit and stare at the phone. As if staring at it would make a client call me out of the blue, so that I would not have to make the call. Every day it was the same. I struggled to pick up the phone and make the first call... or the second! My shift in this area came in the form of two things; organization and a game. I'll start with the game.. I don't remember where it came from, but it started out very easily and built up to amazing productivity. I made cold calling a game. And here were my rules: Cold Calls were to schedule appointments to show the portfolio. You either have to talk to the person you are trying to meet or leave a voice mail. Cold Ca...

Blardy Cold-calling Personnels!!!
2007-11-16 09:37:00
I’m getting sick and tired of cold-calling personnels from various banks bugging me, during office hours. Banks like - MayBank, Citibank and Stand. Chart. When i told them (MayBank and Citibank) i’m not interested, it’s either an abrupt ‘thank you’ and ‘click off’. But that’s fine with me, as long as they aren’t taking up too much ...

How to Diffuse Cold Calling Pressure Points Posted By : Ari Galper

Sales pressure is a mighty saboteur. Beginning any conversation with the anticipation of a sale puts the whole conversation under pressure. It usually triggers pressure, resistance, and tension. More: continued here
How to End the Cold Calling Game of Chasing a Sale Posted By : Ari Galper
2007-11-03 18:11:00
If our thoughts are fixed on the goal of making a sale, then were not really being forthright. Were not focused on the conversation or the truth of a situation. Were chasing people — or at least chasing the sale. More: continued here

Cold Calling 2.0
2007-10-05 05:22:00
Aaron Ross, creator of Salesforce.com’s $20 million tele-prospecting team, is teasing out the concept of cold calling 2.0. Now, besides the tired nature of the 2.0 idiom, I am a bit interested. The Internet has caused an odd brand of customer engagement that is not cold calling, but has many of the challenges and pitfalls of this brand of sales. Here are a few of the elements that I think are central to a discussion of "cold calling 2.0": Automated account (consumer) context generation Demand-based lead inventory and sales capacity management Intelligent lead distribution Prospecting automation Effective prospect qualification Effective transfer methodologies Trust building (foreshadowing and fulfilling promises) Agent fatigue Account (consumer) fatigue But, until a good discussion can be flushed out you can start building your tele-prospecting team today. Take your newest 10% and you bottom 10% and put them on the prospect team. They should warm and pre-qualify ea...

Salespeople are always moaning to me about not having enough people to ring or about not having enough leads to prospect. Cold Calling For New Sales
2007-08-31 23:12:00
In the world of sales, few tasks will turn the stomach of an entrepreneur as much as the thought of cold  calling. It is often perceived as the the most difficult, most feared activity in their day. Why is that? For men, does it conjure up awkward memories of teenage years, asking for a date? For women, might it be ...
"No Cold Calling" Zones
2007-08-22 00:27:00
The UK has just piloted 1,000 of these. And doorstep crime fell by an enormous amount. The BBC discussed it on the radio yesterday, and, while I forget the exact drop, it was substantial. Figures were bandied about that said that 97% of people do not want to be doorstepped by random sales people or other canvassers.I didn't care much one way or the other until last night. I'm old enough and ugly enough to amuse myself with incompetent idiots, and to allow them to waste their time with me. And yes, I ask for identification.Yesterday evening, so well timed after the BBC show, I had a call from a neighbour. "Tim, there's a very unpleasant door knocker heading your way. He's pulling bits off shrubs and doesn't take very kindly to being told that we weren't buying from him. We had to go out and check that he hadn't scratched the cars!" Fifteen minutes later he knocked. Now I don't know about you, but I can tell a lot about what I'm going to find by the way my knocker's ...
Cold Calling Executives - a Way of Life
2007-08-16 16:12:00
If you plan to cold call high-level decision-makers expect a mental transition to come. The time of transition comes to different people at different points in time, often without the seller even realizing it has happened. The way you think will morph into the very kinds of thoughts top decision-makers think. Seemingly, suddenly you will ...
Cold Calling Sales Magic
2007-07-10 14:55:00
In the world of sales, few tasks turn the stomach of the entrepreneur as much as the thought of cold calling. It is often perceived as the the most difficult, most feared activity in their day. Why is that? For men, does it conjure up awkward memories of teenage years, asking for a date? For women, might it be the now-fading societal rule that women do not make the first move or initial call? For whatever reasons that I will leave for psychologists to explain, we are often uncomfortable with making that first move, that cold call. We often tend to make almost any excuse for not picking up the phone. We will busy ourselves with any task at hand, justifying to ourselves that we are simply too busy to call now and will do so later. Procrastination is not in the dictionary of the winner. The successful entrepreneur takes action, even when it is uncomfortable. As Mark Twain once said, "Do that which you fear and the death of fear is certain." A more modern vernacular is &quo...

Cold Calling: The Most Unpopular Sales Subject

A recent Wall Street Journal article, lead with, “The cold call won’t die.” Couldn’t help but wonder, why in the world anyone who sells for a living would want the cold call to die in the first place. Cold Calling Secrets: How You Can Reach Million-Dollar Decision Makers

Never Cold Call- Alternative Sales Tool To Cold Calling
2007-05-02 18:38:00
Cold calling used to be a very effective tool in sales. However, the effectiveness of this sales technique is waning. Many people are not too keen in entertaining unexpected calls and visits anymore because of the sheer number of cold calls they receive everyday. It is very likely for a person to receive no less than three cold calls in the office and at home in a day. There are many other sales methods that are more effective than cold calling. If you are seeking for a way to boost the sales of your company, here are alternative techniques that can help increase your company’s sales and revenue: Referral Marketing System Many vouch for the effectiveness of the referral marketing system because people tend to be more trusting and open to sales personnel that was referred by a friend or a family member. Since there are many scams and fraudulent companies in the market, many people are more careful in entertaining visits and calls from persons they do not know. In cold calls, ho...
