John Coltrane
2008-09-21 11:16:00 The title of this album fits perfectly for John Coltrane was certainly at an important transitional point in his career at the time. Although he was still utilizing the same quartet that he had had for over three years (pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones) and his music had always been explorative, now he was taking his solos one step beyond into passionate atonality, usually over simple but explosive vamps. Other than the tender ballad "Welcome," most of this set is uncompromisingly intense; in fact, the closing nine-minute "Vigil" is a fiery tenor-drums duet. The 21-minute "Suite," even with sections titled "Prayer and Meditiation: Day" and "Affirmation," is not overly peaceful. It must have seemed clear, even at this early point, that Tyner and perhaps Jones would not be with the band much longer. . John Coltrane - Ballads
2007-10-25 17:57:00 In 1962 John Coltrane was under assault from conservative critics who had labeled his tumultuous extended performances "anti-jazz." In response he entered the studios to create this classic collection of both well known and obscure ballads. Coltrane was one of jazz's greatest ballad players, a fact sometimes overlooked in the controversy that swirled about his work, and his lyrical gifts are in
Coltrane Speaker
2007-09-03 00:09:00 The Coltrane is so accurate and true it can be somewhat 'spooky'. This is one of the best speakers in the world, and, in its size class, perhaps the very best. These speakers produce a very tight, precise sound with stable, pinpoint imaging and superb coherence and transparency in an attractive, easy to move and setup package. AudioFederation
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
2007-08-22 14:06:00 I bought this recently. A very nice reissue by Impulse (vervemusicgroup.) Coltrane's liner notes to the original vinyl record are included in the package. They are inspiring. This was all recorded in one evening session. From the opening strike of a Chinese gong through the incantation and right to the overdubbed ending this is some awesome music.Coltrane also recorded the following day with a slightly different line-up (Archie Shepp and Art Davis added to the quartet). That recording was not included on the original album. If you look up the track list on my next upload you will see that it is included there.John Coltrane - A Love Supreme - December 9 - 1964

The compositions of Coltrane.
2007-05-31 20:13:00 John Coltrane was always experimenting with jazz standards and jazz classics. Most of his recordings for Prestige label included songs by other composers. He loved Gershwin, Tad Dameron, Duke and Horace Silver. Although his playing was always unique, it was not before 1956 that he?s compositions were first revealed to the wide public.
Coltrane Motion: Songs About Music CD
2007-05-23 03:25:00 This is the new album from Coltrane Motion, two small-town Ohio expatriates now residing in Chicago. Lead singer Michael Bond records sixties- obsessed electronic pop in his home studio, while guitarist Matt Dennewitz covers it all in wailing distortion and delay at their live shows - the result is a raucous wall of sound built out of drum loops and fuzzed-out melodies, held together by swirling synths and organ drones. It's an indie rock dance record that doesn't follow the DFA/NME template, leaning more on 90s shoegazers and 60s soul jams than the usual post-punk roll call. Their frantic live show has been described by the press as an 'exuberant seizure' and 'the cool kids in programming class', its dance-punk intensity a far cry from your usual laptop performances. Now they're hitting the road again this Summer in support of their first real full-length, with a series of dates across the Northeast and Midwest.Coltrane Motion Bio:The group has its origins in a handful of lo...
Thelonious Monk Quartet With John Coltrane "At Carnegie Hall"

Blue Monk 9.
Chi Coltrane - Go Like Elijah (1973)
2007-04-19 21:23:00 When Chi Coltrane's first single, "Thunder and Lightning" made the US top 20 in 1972, it seemed like the auspicious start of a long and distinguished career. The timing was right, and the performer appeared to have everything going for her - she was a prodigious pianist, a skilled composer, a fine vocalist, and distinctly photogenic. Furthermore, her style - a sort of ultra-sophisticated take on Carole King and Elton John - was perfect for the times. But, for various reasons (an aversion to self-promotion, in particular), she never consolidated her initial success, and settled instead for a small, but loyal cult following, both in North America and Europe. Chi (pronounced "shy") Coltrane (b.Nov 16, 1948 Racine, Wisconsin) was one of seven children born to a Canadian mother, and a German violinist father. She studied a number of instruments as a child, and gave her first piano recital at 12. In 1970, she formed Chicago Coltrane, playing blues, funk and gospel in local clubs and bars...
Alice Coltrane - A Monastic Trio
2007-01-22 05:26:11 Alice Coltrane’s 1968 solo debut still stands tall in the artist’s excellent discography. The searching quality underpinning the saxophonist’s last albums is also present on ‘A Monastic Trio’, as ...
