Once again, the Osmanli Naksibendi Tarikat is hosting an iftar/supper at Columbia University during Ramadan. Last year it was a SMASH-HIT! People, Muslim and non-Muslim alike were talking about it long after Ramadan had passed. For some it was a moment to break their fast with more than the 3 other Muslims they know on campus. ...

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad , Speaks at Columbia University
2007-10-25 20:55:00
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad This man, equally as hated as president Bush, (mahk-MOOD? ah-muh-DEE?-neh-zhahd) is traveling to New York to address the U.N. General Assembly. He is scheduled to appear Monday at a question-and-answer session with Columbia faculty and students as part of the school?s World Leaders Forum. The State Department calls Iran a state sponsor of terror. Ahmadinejad has called the Holocaust ?a myth? and urged for Israel to be destroyed. The university dropped plans for an Ahmadinejad speech last year because of security and logistical problems. The decision came after a Jewish activist group expressed outrage over the invitation. Protects went on outside the university for hours before the Iranian president?s arrival. He is a Loser in our Book!Blah

We don?t really think about the people who started it all, but considering that it?s only been a few years since the FDA approved bupe for substance abuse treatment, there?s been a viral word-of-mouth buzz about the drug among addicts, if not medical professionals.
Columbia University’s Manhattanville Grab — Racist?
2007-10-13 14:55:00
The Columbia grab for Manhattanville is very much in the tradition of Robert Moses who was notorious for uprooting low income housing and favoring the interests of the wealthy — see his planning contributions exemplified in the Northern State Parkway on Long Island which zig sags wildly for this reason or the abrupt ending off of coverage over the railroad under Riverside Park at 125th St. Unhappily those to be impacted by Columbia will not be just African Americans.  One can expect the Latino small businesses and renters to the north and south of Columbia’s proposed expansion also to be hit by what is politely called ‘gentrification’, but which really represents owners of properties using the opportunity to up their returns by getting rid of the lower income interests.  The disappearance of small markets and other businesses in Morningside Heights is an illustration of this pattern as is the shift there from rental and SRO buildings to coops this past quar...
Columbia University Noose
2007-10-11 05:08:00
A black professor at Columbia University found a noose hanging on her door. The Hate Crime task force is investigating and they are looking to charge the person who did it with a hate crime. Really? So what went wrong in Jena? Those kids tie a noose to a tree after black kids sit under it and they get suspended...with no hate crime charges. I'm sorry there really is something wrong there. Kudos to the charges being put against the person who put the noose on the professors door and a big giant "Wake the hell up" to the people in Jena who decided not to charge those kids.
Columbia Univ. Professor finds a noose hanging on his door

A noose was discovered this week on the office door of an African-American professor at Columbia University, school officials and the New York Police Department said. The noose was found in a building at Columbia’s Teachers College and was apparently placed on the 44-year-old professor’s office door sometime before 9 a.m. ET Tuesday. Share This

I don?t know about you, but I could spend hours on end doing stuff on the Internet, some of it productive, some of it, well, not.And some days, it?s hard separating the two because one is generally just as distracting as the other.I?m hoping that today?s guest, Sree Sreenivasan, can help all of us sort out the time-wasters from the time-benefitters. He?s a New Media professor and dean of students in the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. (Return to Part 1)BOB ANDELMAN: One of the things that most of these sites we talked about have in common is that they kind of originated out of college campuses or, at the least, they were popularized there. LinkedIn, of course, was more developed out of Palo Alto and the Silicon Valley area, but MySpace, Friendster, and Facebook all really grew out of college just as before them, Napster was a big college phenomenon. You?re on campus, Sree. I hate to say it, but what are the kids buzzing about these days? What?s coming up ahead of us?SREE SREENIVASAN: Well, my students, I hate to call them ?kids? because their average age is 27, and some of them are amazed how much we are using Facebook because, when they were in college, Facebook wasn?t there, or they just missed Facebook if they?re 23, 24. Like I said, it?s not necessarily a function of age as much as what your friends were using or if they were using anything at all. And I think on campus it would be fair to say that Facebook i...

Columbia University: Lack of Decency and Integrity
2007-09-30 08:00:00
by Mahmoud El-Yousseph Columbia University President Lee Bollinger lacked decency and integrity during his introduction of Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Mr. Bollinger's remarks were rude and insulting. The speech at Columbia University was an important podium for Iran's president to express his country's views. This is what was suppose to be a vehicle for dialog between Iran and the U.S. Mr. Bollinger's unexpected introductory remarks turned into a belligerent speech, continuing ad nauseum. Directed at a world leader in front of the whole world to see, it was an ambush intended to humiliate the guest speaker, further inflaming tensions between our two nations. I am not a big fan of Ahmadinejad but I don't care what anyone thinks of his politics or his personality, a guest--someone invited by Bollinger himself--should not be treated in such a manner. It showcased a lack of hospitality and immaturity that was very disappointing for what is supposed t...
Ahmadinejad speech at Columbia University Sep 2007
2007-09-27 05:09:00
This is a part of the video of the speech of Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the Columbia University , USA. The reason for him to be invited cannot remain hidden after the disrespectful and shameless introduction given to him by the uncivilized President of the Columbia university.Ahmadinejad without being bothered by the remarks made against him managed to make his intelligent and well composed speech in a really presidential manner with confidence and sincerity and was duly acknowledged and supported by the intellectual audience. The plot of the plotters to invite him and make a fool of him on stage did not work out and by the grace of Allah their tables were turned on them and hence I had hard time finding this videos on the news websites, which would otherwise be on the homepage for weeks had he made a fool of himself. Well, when people talk of freespeech, they mean, speech which is appeasing to them and not really free speech, their hypocrisy is not really elusive if you t...

Ahmadinejad in Columbia University
2007-09-27 03:32:00
Guest Post By Jessica MartinI expected Ahmadinejad to be controversial; what I didn't expect (or like) were the actions of the President of Columbia. It's like he said "Sure, you can come here and give a speech, but first I'm going to insult you, your way of life, and your country, and you can't do anything about it." It really wasn't a good reflection of open debate, which is what we're supposed to be about in this country. If we are, in some ephemeral way, supposed to be 'better than them', this wasn't really a good way to show we're any different.Frankly, I think the whole situation is laughable, and is nothing more than playground politics, and rudeness. The President of Colombia University, I hope, will be feeling pretty special right now. What was his train of thought? :"I know, lets invite Ahmadinejad to talk to our students. I will allow America to show that it's actually opposed to freedom of speech, but appear to be a martyr to the cause, by letting Mr Ahmadineja...
"Nuclear" Fallout Over The Little Man's Visit
2007-09-26 19:48:00
Not only is the little man from Iran a liar, he has the little people here in America and in Iran, the mental midgets, all a twitter. It seems as though Bollinger asked "unkind" and "too pointed" questions and made "unkind" remarks to the terrorist regime leader and terrorist financier. Bollinger was "rude" to the little boy that is sending weapons to Afghanistan and Iraq, killing and wounding innocents, Iraqi Forces, Coalition Forces and American military members. Heaven forbid!!FARS News AgencyWe, the professors and heads of universities and research institutions in Tehran , hereby announce our displeasure and protest at your impolite remarks prior to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent speech at Columbia University. We would like to inform you that President Ahmadinejad was elected directly by the Iranian people through an enthusiastic two-round poll in which almost all of the country's political parties and groups participated. Ahmadinejad says Columbia University students and faculty Officially invite
2007-09-26 07:46:00
Today University President Lee C. Bollinger challenged the President of Iran. He questioned the freedom that people have in Iran and suggested that the Iranian President allow a delegation of students and faculty to come visit Iran. Ahmadinejad was probably a little bit shocked when he first heard the University professor challenge his positions so vehemently. Read my previous post! Ahmadinejad, rebukes Bollinger for starting a conversation with insults. Says, he was probably affected by the press and the heightened state of unrest in the society. Ahmadinejad, claims this heated tension is unnecessary.   The president of Iran started his comments by talking about noble universal concepts like finding light in darkness. That scholars, both religious and scientific, are torches to guide people to the light. We need to focus on education and dialog, communication  and openness. Ahmadinejad went on to quote from the Quran, about the story of Adam and the Angels, ...
Columbia University Bollinger plays “Hardball” with President of Iran A
2007-09-26 07:27:00
High security was the standard at Columbia University, as 750 students and faculty members listened. The guest of “honor” was the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Lee C. Bollinger University President introduces the president and asks questions. This is one of many events, about Iran to come in the future, we are told. “We do not honor the dishonorable. I respect your opinion”, says Bollinger. We do it for ourselves. Not for Ahmadinejad. It is not his right, but ours to listen and question. We must be free, Bollinger went to explain to, “Confront the Mind of Evil.” Bollinger did not hold back! He called for the release of a Columbia Alum, he questioned civil rights abuses in Iran. We “protest” our own government on their abuses and should not be shy or hesitant to question others. I found Bollinger's statements to be quit good.   Although it did seem somewhat rough to be so confrontational. I guess I should have expected it. I wonder if ...
Fred Thompson Statement on Ahmadinejad at Columbia University
2007-09-26 07:19:00
Fred08 article link  Fred Thompson Statement on Ahmadinejad at Columbia University McLean, VA - Senator Fred Thompson issued the following statement today regarding Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's appearance this afternoon at Columbia University: "Columbia University gave a public forum today to a tyrant to spread his lies and deceit.  Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made a mockery of free speech by standing in front of an auditorium of academicians and students and denying the existence of the Holocaust and his deadly intentions toward Israel. "I find it ironic that Iran's president accepted an invitation to speak at Columbia University, since students who dissent on Iranian campuses are not met with debate, they are met by a gun and imprisonment.  A few months ago, eight college students were imprisoned in Iran's notorious Evin Prison for publishing articles and cartoons critical of Iran's government in a student-run newspaper.  The Evin facility has been described a...

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at Columbia University: Where Liberal Cultural Relativi
2007-09-25 04:10:00
While liberals pride themselves for being the champions of tolerance, how do they respond when other cultures denigrate women and homosexuals? It is wonderful to watch this cognitive dissonance unfold. At what point do liberals start making objective determinations of right and wrong? At what point do liberals say that burying a 16-year-old girl to her neck in dirt, and subsequently stoning her to death is not an acceptable form of cultural expression?Ironically, liberals consider conservatives evil because many conservatives support the military?s don?t ask, don?t tell policy. Yet, it is amazing that these same liberals are apathetic when Iran hangs, stones, and beheads homosexuals. Moreover, Iran is one of the few Countries in the World that executes children. When confronted with this clear hypocrisy, liberals simply resort to bashing President Bush. If they don?t attack Bush, they attack America for being an evil Country. I am telling you, these people have been totally br...
Ahmadinejad Met With Protests, Criticism at Columbia University
2007-09-25 03:38:00
Not surprisingly the impressions of how the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was treated differ greatly depending on which media source you are reading. The New York Times story repeatedly states how the students chastised Columbia president Lee Bollinger for the way he addressed Ahmadinejad. They also portrayed Bollinger as trying to duck questions on the matter. To say the least it is difficult to imagine that both papers were covering the same event. The Washington Post on the other hand portrayed it quite differently. In their story, BollingerÂ’s comments were greeted with cheers and applause from students and faculty alike. Their story goes into detail sadly lacking in the New York Times piece as to Ahmadinejad assertions that women have incredible freedom in Iran and that homosexuality does not exist in his country. He also went on at length about how the Holocaust never happened. I was very pleasantly surprised by the treatment given Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Lee Bollingers s...

The little man walked all over him. THAT is the sad part of the whole exchange.Iranian Leader, Calling Introductory Remarks Insulting, Addresses Columbia From Hot Air:Think of this as the right-wing version of Colbert?s performance at the White House Correspondents? Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at Columbia: Three Principles
2007-09-24 03:19:00
Every once in a while I agree with just the way an event is unfolding.About Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at Columbia University:1. As a professor who could invite Ahmadinejad to any one of a number of classes at Fordham University, I would not. Although I think it is indeed very valuable to confront world leaders with delusions head-on, and allow students to do the same, I think this value would be offset by the propaganda advantage Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would derive from addressing any class or gathering in America. Such an address and the response it drew could easily be edited to make the Iranian President look good to his supporters back home and around the world.2. Nonetheless, I think other professors and universities are entitled to reach their own different decisions on this difficult issue. Therefore, I support Columbia University's right to invite Ahmadinejad. Part of the zest and real freedom of American life is that individual professors and universities can make their own dec...

Iran?s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Invited to Speak at Columbia University: No Cons
2007-09-22 02:05:00
Liberals seem to think that it benefits their academic environment by allowing dictators and tyrants to speak at their Universities. Yet, while they proclaim themselves as champions of free speech, they so quickly forget how intolerant they are when that speech is Conservative. Just this year, the MinuteMan Project (an organization that is anti illegal immigration) were stormed by protestors before they even had a chance to speak. They were even physically threatened and had to leave. Lee Bollinger refused to reprimand any of the students. Had it been a liberal speaker on stage, someone surely would have pulled out the taser. In all seriousness, it was an absolute embarrassment that Colombia University breached its duty to protect Conservative guests who speak at its University. It is also relevant that the MinuteMan Project is on the same ideological side as 80%+ of Americans. Nevertheless, these types of violent protests are common all over the Country.People like Ann Coulte...
Columbia University newspaper comments on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad invitation
2007-09-21 04:45:00
Go here for full text. Columbia’s invitation to Ahmadinejad is an impressive demonstration of the University’s respect of free speech and open debate. The Iranian leader is a pivotal player on the world stage, and providing him a forum to speak is the best way for the University to live up to its mission to serve as a “center for public discussion and debate on the large economic, political, social, and cultural questions,” as stated in the World Leaders Forum literature. Have they ever not extended an invitation to a world leader? If so, I wonder which one. President Ahmadinejad’s repression of student protest, denial of the Holocaust, and systematic human rights abuses are reprehensible. However, the University’s invitation is not an endorsement of these positions, nor does it legitimize Iran’s designated head of state. We may deplore the fact such a vile man has been elevated to the international stage—as we should—but to...

Columbia University To Offer A "Fellatio Payment Plan"

(New York, NY) With the price of college tuition outpacing inflation and wages, it's now harder for middle and lower class students to pay for college. These kids either can't afford to go to college, or they're being saddled with monster loans. Former Secretary of Education Richard Riley says that in today's 'flat' world this is a recipe for disaster, and something needs to be done.
