BY ADAM RONIS http://www.newsday.com/services-/newspaper/printedition/sunday/-sports/ny-spfantasy085719314jun-08,0,3532984.column Suggested pickups AL ONLY Scott Downs (Blue Jays), RP: B.J. Ryan has been excellent coming off Tommy John surgery, but has blown two consecutive saves. At some point this season, Ryan could hit the DL. Downs would take his place and even if Ryan is healthy, he won't pitch too often on consecutive days and Downs should get those opportunities. Travis Buck (Athletics), OF: He started the season with the A's and hit just .154. He was sent down to the minors where he hit .337. Buck had 34 extra base hits in 285 at-bats with the A's last season. Radhames Liz (Orioles), SP: Liz was excellent against the Twins in his first start for the Orioles this season. He had a 4.05 ERA in the minors, but struck out 58 in 60 innings. He can reach the mid-90s, but control is always an issue. NL ONLY Josh Anderson (Braves), OF: Anderson will see some time in leftfield. He hit...

I Hope you understand the difference between the three candidates, but just in case you don’t, here is a little parable to help. John McCain, Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama were walking down a Washington, D.C. Street when they came upon a homeless person. The Republican, McCain, gave the homeless person his business card and told him to come to his office for a job. He then took $20 out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person. Hillary was very impressed, so when they came upon another homeless person, she decided to help. She walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. She then reached into McCain’s pocket and got out $20. She kept $15 for her administrative fees and gave the homeless person $5. When they came upon yet another homeless person, Barak told the homeless person to “Have Hope. Change is coming,” and gave him nothing. Now, do you understand The Differences? The Truth About “Big Oil,R...

The Politics of Movies
2008-05-16 16:44:00
Hollywood is generally thought to be one of the most liberal and oddly ruled kingdoms in our country. Political opinions are thrown out by movie stars every day, and arguably, they are listened to as much as opinions given by the politicians themselves. In fact, movies are often classified, not on the merits of the films, but on the personal views of those who are involved in making them.

The National Council of ?The Race?
2008-05-13 13:30:00
Today, The National Council of La Raza calls itself ?the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States.? According to the ?About? page on The Race?s website, NCLR ?works to improve opportunities for Hispanic Americans.? That is very vague, and leads me to wonder how exactly they go about doing this. What policies do they advocate?
The Racist Origin of ?La Raza?
2008-05-12 12:00:00
The term ?La Raza?, or ?the Race? originated in a book titled ?La Raza Cósmica,? written in 1929 by José Vasconcelos. The book?s title translates to ?The Cosmic Race,? and was Vasconcelos? attempt to explain ?the ideology of a future ?fifth race? in the Americas; an agglomeration of all the races in the world with no respect to color or number.

The Great Sequel List!
2008-05-10 12:00:00
The idea is to get the audience back into the theater based on the name only, rather than the continuation of a compelling story. And now, in an entertainment industry that seems propelled by the ?three-play?, or movie franchises in three installments, the second movie is often overlooked in regards to the story as a whole. A few sequels have shown us that, not only was the first movie a great idea, but that the story can be carried on.

Do Speidi have anal sex? Spencer Pratt gives advice on when to take things to the poop shoot. How long do you have to date someone before it's appropriate to bring up the possibility of anal sex?If you're dating a guy, right away. If you're dating girl, I think you'll know pretty quick if she's into that. If they're not bringing it up, it's not something on their agenda. That's just realistic. My boxing coach Dirty Phi says, "If you stick your pinkie in there, and then another finger, and then another, and she responds happily, then it's cool."radar

Earlier today, my first feature was published over at Massively.com. The column, called Have Clone, Will Travel, is of course a play on words on Robert Heinlein's wonderful science fiction novel Have Space Suit - Will Travel. My first article, Ambulation in the EVE tutorial, is about how Ambulation could be used to improve the current EVE Tutorial.Do not worry, I'll still be posting here on a regular basis, daily if time permits. The fine folks at Massively.com have given me an opportunity I could not refuse. For now, my column will appear weekly, but that may change to bi-weekly if RL gets in the way (summer will soon be upon us here is eastern Canada). So head over, and let me know your thoughts!More EVE Online news and rantings at CrazyKinux's Musing!

The Truth May Still Be Out There
2008-05-02 12:00:00
For anyone who is a true nerd (like myself) the search for the truth ended on May 19, 2002. That was the series finale for the Fox television series ?The X-Files.? The series, covering the search for a shadow conspiracy by FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), produced 9 seasons, one feature film, and at least two video games. The series, which focused on subjects such as Unidentified Flying Objects, aliens, and government cover-ups, caught the attention of a great many fans who were interested in paranormal subjects. It also created real interest in these subjects that went far beyond the show. But enough about the history of what is arguably one of the greatest television shows to grace the airwaves. That is not what this article is about. This article is about the upcoming release of a new X-Files feature film. Set to release on July 25, 2008, ?The X-Files: I Want To Believe?, reunites Duchovny and Anderson, along with series creator Chris Car...
Maurice Strong and the Collapse of Industrialized Civilizations
2008-05-01 06:42:00
In 1990, a small, round faced Canadian described a scenario to a reporter. He envisioned a small group of world leaders concluding that the rich countries were the “principle risk to the Earth.” This group then created a plan to get the rich countries to “sign an agreement reducing their impact on the environment.” When the rich countries refused, the group decided “the only hope for the planet” was for the industrialized civilizations to collapse. He pondered, “Isn’t it our responsibility to bring that about?” Two years later, he helped lay the foundation for the Kyoto Protocol at the Earth Summit in Rio De Janeiro. His name is Maurice Strong, and he would love to see America collapse. Who is Maurice Strong? Billionaire Canadian Maurice Strong is a man of profound influence. He’s been called the “Michelangelo of networking,” “an international traveling salesman with buts [sic] of paper in his pocket...

Five Black Minds Obama Supporters Should Get Behind
2008-04-28 12:30:00
Barack Obama is currently nailing down 80-90% of the black vote in America. Would it be fair to say that race has a bit to do with that percentage? Perhaps. Geraldine Ferraro told a story on John Gibson’s radio show last week about a black man accosting a black female for supporting Hillary Clinton by saying something to the effect of, “How can you choose your gender over your race?” Maybe I’m outside the mainstream, but I guess I look at the positions and beliefs of the candidate, and not the skin tone. Because of that, I’ve pretty much found myself without a candidate to support. I suppose I could just support the old white guy because he’s white, but I really don’t agree with too much of what he says or does. Anyway, if you find yourself supporting Barack Obama because you are excited about him being the first black President, perhaps you could take the time to support these fine black Americans*: J. C. Watts, Jr. (born November 1...

The 20 Worst Comic-Book Movies Ever?
2008-04-24 06:21:00
EW.com has published it’s list of the 20 worst comic-book movies ever. Here are their picks… He’s Happy To See You Ghost Rider (2007) The Shadow (1994) Barb Wire (1996) Catwoman (2004) Brenda Starr (1992) The Phantom (1996) Daredevil (2003) / Elektra (2005) Tank Girl (1995) Fantastic Four (2005) Sheena (1984) The Punisher (2004) Supergirl (1984) Barbarella (1968) Howard The Duck (1986) Steel (1987) Swamp Thing (1982) Batman & Robin (1997) The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) Superman IV: Quest For Peace (1987) Judge Dredd (1995) First of all, that’s 21 movies. Second of all, not all of these were comic books. Third of all, whoever wrote this list is retarded. Sure, Howard the Duck was a movie that never should have been made. Batman & Robin wasn’t the greatest… but one of the worst? Batsuit nipples aside, it was an entertaining flick. Not worthy of being on this list. The real mind-number, for me at least, is The Pun...

If We Had the FairTax, Today Would Just Be Tuesday
2008-04-15 12:00:00
Alexander Hamilton was not in favor of an income tax, but favored a tax on comsumption. He felt it would be more difficult to raise a consumption tax to confiscatory levels than an income tax. In Federalist No. 21, Hamilton wrote: It is a signal advantage of taxes on articles of consumption, that they contain in their own nature a security against excess. They prescribe their own limit; which cannot be exceeded without defeating the end proposed, that is, an extension of the revenue. With the consumption tax, the citizen chooses to pay taxes based on the amount of purchase they make. An income tax can be raised or lowered, compelling the citizen to pay as much as the government demands. As you know, we have an income tax in America, due on that most dreaded day of the year, April 15th. Today is April 15th. If we passed the FairTax, today would just be Tuesday. The Fair Tax is a bill in the United States Congress that would repeal the 16th Amendment and eliminate all federal inc...

The future of American medicine under HillaryCare or ObamaCare: Paul Baxter knew he was unwell when he suddenly developed severe pains in his stomach. ‘I felt like someone was stabbing me. The pain was so bad that I was crying,’ he recalls. He was baffled and worried. But his GP put his mind at rest by insisting that it was a bad stomach upset and prescribed some strong anti-indigestion pills. Seven months later Baxter, 44, a travel agent, learnt the truth. He had testicular cancer, which by then had already spread to his stomach and chest. Despite Baxter suffering serious weight loss and constant tiredness - classic symptoms of cancer - his GP, another doctor at the surgery and staff at his local hospital in Runcorn, Cheshire, had all failed to diagnose his condition. Just an abberation right? This can be something that happens all the time. The fact is, they don’t know how often it happens. They don’t keep track of that kind of thing. But there are som...
Bill Harrison: Honey, I Lost My Job ? Now Bring Me My Bible, My Rifle and
2008-04-14 18:36:00
Newsvine’s Bill Harrison addresses the comments Barry Hussein Obama made in San Francisco, where he said, “it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustration.” Bill writes: God save the Republic from Democrats auditioning to serve as psychoanalyst-in-chief to the nation’s body politic. To hear Democrats tell the tale it’s all gloom, doom and various pathologies brought about now by a generation of alleged GOP economic neglect. As Carter’s speech points out, Obama is but the latest Democrat to talk down to and insult people who might have religious faith, be concerned about Second Amendment rights or have reservations over the effects of illegal immigration on this country’s society and economy. How else would one explain their seeming to cling to ideas that run counter to ...
