Comic Book Review: Action Comics #871: New Krypton
2008-11-13 16:50:00 The Revolution has certainly been intrigued with the beginning of the New Krypton story that is snaking through all the titles of the Superman family. I fully expect Johns to keep the ball rolling with Action Comics #871 and crank out another quality read. The New Krypton story has so much potential and I am interested to see what new twist Johns throws at the reader with this issue. Let?s go ahead and hit this review for Action Comics #871. Creative Team Writer: Geoff Johns Artist: Pete Woods Art Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with Commander Gor and Lieutenant Mur walking through New York City with a look of disdain for the humans around them. Gor states that Zod always promised to save Kandor and would have hunted down Brainiac if the Council had let him. Gor says that the humans have Brainiac?s ship in custody. That this is their chance to avenge Krypton. But, instead, ...
Comic Book Review: Superman/Supergirl: Maelstrom #1
2008-11-12 14:30:00 Since last week's episode of Smallville featured the teamup of Clark and Supergirl, I thought it would be fitting to review the first issue of the new Superman/Supergirl mini-series. The Smallville episode was good, I hope that this story is as good. Creative Team Writers: Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray Art: Phil Noto Art Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 4 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 4.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: Superman is lowering a giant space vessel down to a city on another world. NASA spotted the ship with the sensors on on of the Titan-Seven Voyagers. Superman asked Supergirl to cover for him while he crossed the galaxy to attempt a rescue mission. Meanwhile, on Apokolips Darkseid is his followers produce new weapons. One of the slaves, a woman named Maelstrom is watching him. S...
Comic Book Review: Ultimatum #1
2008-11-10 16:00:00 Ultimatum has finally arrived as Marvel simply could not wait for their other ?big event? in Secret Invasion to finish before cranking up this newest ?big event.? I have to admit that Ultimatum doesn?t interest me that much. With the exception of Ultimate Spider-Man, I stopped caring about the rest of the Ultimate Universe years ago. Also, I am not too sure that it was a wise idea by Marvel to tap Jeph Loeb to head up this big event. I enjoyed Loeb?s work over at DC, but Loeb has been incredibly disappointing since he came to Marvel. I mean, Wolverine was just awful and Hulk and the Ultimates 3 have been practically unreadable at times. I do not have faith in Loeb being able to craft a riveting big event with Ultimatum. I wish Marvel had given this task to Millar. Anyway, let?s hope for the best and go ahead and hit this review for Ultimatum #1. Creative Team Writer: Jeph Loeb Pencils: David Finch Inks: Danny Miki Art Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 3 Night Girls o...
Comic Book Review: Adventure Comics Special #1: New Krypton
2008-11-07 16:45:00 There have been rumors swirling that DC was going to start printing Adventure Comics once again as a regular monthly title. While that remains to be seen, we did get Adventure Comics Special #1 this week. This issue features the Guardian and also has a cameo appearance by a C-list Legionnaire. I have enjoyed the New Krypton story so far so I fully expect Adventure Comics Special #1 to be a quality read. Let?s go ahead and hit this review. Creative Team Writer: James Robinson Artist: Pere Perez Art Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with being told that Adventure Comics Special #1 takes place in between pages 53 and 54 of Superman?s Pal, Jimmy Olsen Special #1. Jimmy Olsen tells Jim Harper, the Guardian, that he has so many questions to ask him. Harper thinks if he should lie or tell the truth. Harper goes with the truth as we cut to Harper and Olsen sitting at a table inside of Harpe...
Comic Book Review: Justice Society of America #20
2008-11-06 16:15:00 The Revolution always looks forward to the latest issue of the Justice Society of America. This title is white hot as Johns continue to crank out excellent reads each and every month. We certainly have plenty on our plate with Justice Society of America #20 as the JSA has to not only deal with the internal schism between those who support Gog and those who do not, but they must also now deal with the JLI from Earth-2. Let?s go ahead and do this review for Justice Society of America #20. Creative Team Writer: Geoff Johns Pencils: Dale Eaglesham Inks: Nathan Massengill Art Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10. Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10. Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10. Synopsis: We begin with the JSI?s Power Girl demanding to know where her cousin is and why the JSA?s Power Girl infiltrated the JSI. At first the JSA thinks that the JSI members are time travelers since Jade is alive and well and because Sly Pemberton is still the Star Spangled Kid. But, Jay Garri...
Comic Book Review: Captain America: Theater of War: Operation Zero Point #1
2008-11-04 01:30:00 Marvel is rolling out several one-shot special issues under the banner of Captain America: Theater of War. These issues are designed to give supply the reader with Golden Age tales of Captain America and his missions during World War II. I dig the idea of further fleshing out Cap?s history, but I was hesitant to purchase any of these issues since I already am overrun with buying so many Secret Invasion and Final Crisis tie-in issues every single week. Then I saw that Daniel and Charles Knauf were slated to write Captain America: Theater of War: Operation Zero Point #1. I am a huge fan of the Knaufs and decided to go ahead and give this issue a try. I am confident that Captain America: Theater of War: Operation Zero Point #1 will be a quality read. Let?s go ahead and hit this review. Creative Team Writers: Daniel & Charles Knauf Artist: Mitch Breitwieser Art Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10 Syno...
Comic Book Review: Incredible Hercules #122
2008-11-01 21:25:00 The Revolution finally gave Incredible Hercules a chance and absolutely fell in love with this title. I went to my local comic book shop and bought all the back issues of Incredible Hercules and read them in one sitting. I was hooked and quickly added this title to my permanent pull list. There is no doubt in my mind that Incredible Hercules #122 will be another fun read. Let?s hit this review. Creative Team Writers: Greg Pak & Fred Van Lente Pencils: Clayton Henry Inks: Salva Espin Art Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with Namor attacking Hercules. Hercules thinks that Namor is attacking him because Herc is shagging Namora. Namor responds that he could care less about who his cousin sleeps with. Namor states that he wants to know what the Olympians are doing with Namor?s god: Poseidon. Hercules and Namor begin brawling. Namor says that Poseidon has disappeared and now the Amazo...
Comic Book Review: Superman #681: New Krypton
2008-10-31 14:30:00 The Revolution enjoyed Superman: New Krypton Special #1 and is certainly looking forward to the New Krypton story arc that will be snaking its way through Superman and Action Comics. I am confident that Robinson will deliver a rather exciting start to this story arc. Let?s go ahead and hit this review for Superman #681. Creative Team Writer: James Robinson Pencils: Renato Guedes Inks: Wilson Magalhaes Art Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with news reports from across the globe about the Kryptonians from Kandor taking to the skies and flying across Earth. We slide to the Daily Planet where Perry is barking out orders to every single reporter that the Kryptonian story is to take priority over any other story. Perry tells Lois and Jimmy to cover the meeting in Metropolis between the President of the United States and a Kryptonian delegation led by Superman. We cut to Superman flying t...
Comic Book Review: Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns #1
2008-10-30 16:00:00 The Revolution enjoyed the Sinestro War and is looking forward to the upcoming Blackest Night event. So, naturally, I am interested in Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns #1. I have a feeling that this issue will be a Final Crisis tie-in issue in name only and actually have nothing at all to do with DC?s current big event. I would expect that Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns #1 is designed to start building reader interest in the Blackest Night event. Let?s go ahead and do this review. Creative Team Writer: Geoff Johns Pencils: Shane Davis Inks: Sandra Hope Art Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin the issue with the statement that this issue takes place between Final Crisis #1 and #2. We start on Ysmault and witness the birth of the first Red Lantern: Atrocitus. Atrocitus narrates how the liquid fire of the red light fills his veins. Atrocitus begins throwing up blood. Atrocitu...
Comic Book Review: Captain America #43
2008-10-28 17:00:00 Now that Brubaker?s monster story arc involving Lukin/Red Skull has concluded, I am curious to see what Brubaker has in store for us next. I enjoy Bucky as Captain America and I am looking forward to getting to see Bucky finally accepting his destiny and embracing his role as Captain America. I am confident that Captain America #43 will be a quality read. Let?s go ahead and hit this review. Creative Team Writer: Ed Brubaker Pencils: Luke Ross Inks: Fabio Laguna Art Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with a flashback scene in 1942 in Shanghai, China. Comic Book Review: Superman: New Krypton Special #1
2008-10-27 14:35:00 The Revolution enjoyed both Johns? Action Comics as well as Robinson?s Superman. I also found Superman?s Pal, Jimmy Olsen Special #1 to be a thoroughly entertaining read. I have never been a huge fan of big blue, but DC has really cranked up the excitement and intensity surrounding Superman with everything that is going on in his two titles. Superman: New Krypton Special #1 ties in the stories from the three aforementioned titles and presents to the reader the blueprint for DC?s plans for the Superman franchise over the course of the next year. Let?s go ahead and do this review. Creative Team Writer: Geoff Johns, James Robinson & Sterling Gates Pencils: Pete Woods, Gary Frank & Renato Guedes Inks: Pete Woods, Jon Sibal & Wilson Magalhaes Art Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with Jonathan Kent?s funeral. Steal Back Your Vote Posts a Nifty Comic Book You Can Have and Give Away
2008-10-24 19:03:00 Award-winning investigative columnist Greg Palast has teamed up with Robert Kennedy Jr. to create the site StealBackYourVote.org, and produced this nifty comic book on the same topic. You can drop by their site to make a donation and you can share this comic book with folks who might be feeling disenfranchised by the obstacle course that is the current Byzantine voting system in the USA, circa 2008. But whatever you do, make sure you vote and that you encourage and enable others to vote, too. Remember, Neo-Cons hate it when we vote. The more voters who vote, the more Democrats get elected.

Comic Book Review: Final Crisis #4
2008-10-24 18:40:00 The Revolution has enjoyed Final Crisis much more than Secret Invasion. Morrison has given us a story that is plot heavy, detailed and well written. Final Crisis has plenty of substance to keep the reader satisfied. This is a multi-textured story that has many layers to it. The reader can go back and read each issue several times and discover something new each time. Having said that, it is time for Morrison to crank this story up a couple of notches. We have gotten all the set-up and foundation work that is necessary for this big event. Now it is time to implement plenty of plot progression. Let?s go ahead and do this review for Final Crisis #4. Creative Team Writer: Grant Morrison Artists: J.G. Jones, Carlos Pacheco & Jesus Merino Art Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with The Ray narrating how the gods of Apokolips cracked every form of Earth?s technology. The gods of Apokolips...
Comic Book Review: Secret Invasion #7
2008-10-23 19:15:00 The Revolution continues to be summarily unimpressed with Secret Invasion. Bendis has failed to give us anything more than a shallow and unoriginal read. And the pacing has been excruciatingly slow. Secret Invasion is the big event that just won?t end. I feel like we have been reading this story for a year. Anyway, I do not expect any great plot work or dialogue with Secret Invasion #7 so let?s hope that we at least get some entertaining mindless action. Let?s go ahead and hit this review. Creative Team Writer: Brian Michael Bendis Pencils: Leinel Yu Inks: Mark Morales Art Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with the Secret Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Young Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, Nick Fury and the new Howling Commandos and the Hood and his goons all united together and battling the Skrull super soldiers. The Skrull Queen orders her solider to target Reed Richards. In turn,...
Comic Book Review: Justice Society of America #19
2008-10-20 22:30:00 Justice Society of America continues to be one of DC?s more intriguing titles. Johns is a master world builder and is clearly having fun with this current Gog/Magog story arc. I fully expect Johns to unleash several more plot twists and turns on the reader. Let?s go ahead and do this review for Justice Society of America #19. Creative Team Writer: Geoff Johns Pencils: Dale Eaglesham Inks: Nathan Massengill Art Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10. Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10. Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10. Synopsis: We begin on Earth-2 with Power Girl finishing explaining her story to Michael Holt. Power Girl finishes up by stating that she would understand if Michael did not believe her at all. Michael then quotes the bible by saying ?Anything is possible for him who believes.? Power Girl is stunned that Michael would be quoting the bible. Michael proceeds to explain how his wife got into a terrible car accident and was in a coma. That none of the top neuro...
Comic Book Review: Young X-Men #7
2008-10-18 17:30:00 Until now, I have not tried this comic. After reading an interview with the author, I was intrigued enough to read this issue. New X-Men titles do not have a good track record. This book will need to impress me. Overall the X-books are not what they used to be. But maybe this book will be an exception and show that new X-books can be successful. Previously...after the X-Men disbanded, Cyclops recruited a new team consisting of Wolf Cub, Dust, Blindfold, Rockslide, and Ink. Their first mission was to hunt down former members of the New Mutants who were recreating the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Wolf Cub died. "Cyclops" turned out to be Donald Pierce, a longtime enemy of the X-Men. Now the team has joined the real X-Men. Creative Team Writer: Marc Guggenheim Artist: Ben Oliver Art Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: Dust is walking with Donald Pierce. He is in a prison uniform. He is trying to fin...
Comic Book Review: Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds
2008-10-18 04:30:00 The Revolution was less than impressed with Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds #1. Johns has failed to convince me that he understands the Legion given his work with them over on Action Comics. And up to this point, Johns still has not convinced me that he is the man who should be entrusted with the job of ?fixing? the Legion. I fully understand that my love for the Legion and years of bitterness over how DC has continually screwed the Legion ever which possible way has left me a very jaded Legion fan. So, I have a hard time believing that Didio and Johns know what they are doing with this title. Still, it is out of my control so all I can do is hope for the best with this title. Maybe Johns will stun me and win me over with a strong effort on Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds #2. Creative Team Writer: Geoff Johns Pencils: George Perez Inks: Scott Koblish Art Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10 Sy...
Comic Book Review: Uncanny X-Men #503
2008-10-16 22:05:00 Uncanny X-Men continues to be an absolutely dreadful read. This just might be the worst Marvel comic book on the market. There is no reason for me to expect anything other than plenty of hackneyed and ?trendy? dialogue, zero character work and incredibly insipid plotlines. I am going to hold my nose and go ahead and do this review for Uncanny X-Men #503. Creative Team Writers: Matt Fraction & Ed Brubaker Pencils: Greg Land Inks: Jay Leisten Art Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 2 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 3.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with Cannonball at the bar Soma in San Francisco. The bartender cards Sam to wit Sam flashes his I.D. and comments that he is ?Free, white and twenty-one.? Oh yeah, I forgot to point out that the bartender is black. (This is so stupid.) We cut to Sam slinking back to the table with the drinks. Mirage and Karma ask Sam what took him so long. Sam replies that he just got a lecture on racial sensitivity. Sam...
Comic Book Review: Final Crisis: Revelations #3
2008-10-14 14:45:00 The Revolution agrees that this has been a great series. Rucka and Tan have produced a perfect companion story to the main Final Crisis event. The development of the Spectre and the Question has been amazing. Rucka has taken the two of them from their days of being detectives to players on the superpowered scene. I am anxiously looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here. Creative Team Writer: Greg Rucka Pencils: Philip Tan Inks: Jonathan Glapion Art Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: The story opens to a narrator discussing God's gift of free will. The scenes being shown are a city in flames, hypnotized workers in office cubicles, a group of people carrying clubs and walking in the streets. The absence of choice is the antithesis of life. Now we find that the narrator is Radiant(who used to be called Clare Coeur). The mob is trying to get to Radiant and the Spectre. The Spectre ye...
Comic Book Review: Detective Comics #849
2008-10-13 21:20:00 The Hush story arc on Detective Comics has been a solidly crafted story. Dini continues to crank up the intensity on this story and has produced several unexpected twists and turns. I am confident that Detective Comics #849 will be another fine read. Let?s do this review.Creative TeamWriter: Paul DiniPencils: Dustin NguyenInks: Derek FridolfsArt Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 6.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with two guards taking the Scarecrow to his cell at Arkham Asylum. Suddenly, two batarangs take down the two guards. Batman then pounces on the Scarecrow. They are right outside of the Joker?s cell. Batman uses one of the guard?s pass cards to open the Joker?s cell. Batman shoves the Joker to the ground and handcuffs the Joker to the sink in his cell.Batman then drags Scarecrow into the cell. Batman grabs the hanging light in the cell and shatters the light bulb. Batman drags Scarecrow over to the toilet and places ...
Comic Book Review: Invincible Iron Man #6
2008-10-10 17:11:00 The Revolution continues to find Invincible Iron Man completely and totally unimpressive. Fraction is delivering a pedestrian read that is nothing more than a standard issue comic book story. Iron Man is by far and away my favorite Marvel character so it pains me to see a writer who is clearly of limited ability writing this title. And it makes it even harder considering that I got spoiled by such incredible writing from the Knaufs leading up to Fraction taking over writing Iron Man. I can only hope that sales numbers slip enough to warrant Marvel placing a different writer on this title. Personally, I think Marvel should have given Invincible Iron Man to Christos Gage. He always did a fantastic job filling in for the Knaufs. Let?s go ahead and do this review for Invincible Iron Man #6. Creative Team Writer: Matt Fraction Artist: Salvador Larroca Art Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 3 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 5.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We beg...
Comic Book Review: Action Comics #870
2008-10-09 20:45:00 Johns continues to impress me with his excellent work on Action Comics. Johns is one of the better world builders in the industry. And Johns is certainly doing a fine job updating Superman?s continuity by mixing in more of Superman?s pre-Crisis history. I am sure that Action Comics #870 will be another well crafted read. Let?s do ahead and hit this review. Creative Team Writers: Geoff Johns Pencils: Gary Frank Inks: Jon Sibal & Bit Art Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with Brainiac stating how Superman led him to Earth. Brainiac says that now that he has Metropolis in a bottle that he will go ahead and destroy Earth. After all, Brainiac refuses to share any of the knowledge that he collects by capturing the various cities from across the universe. Brainiac continues that he thought that Superman was an intelligent creature. A man born of many worlds just like Brainiac. Brain...
Comic Book Review: Secret Invasion #6
2008-09-11 03:20:00 I have to apologize up front if I sound incoherent at any part of this review. I am currently totally high on massive quantities of cold medicine as I battle a nice little September cold. Yay me. At any rate, Secret Invasion has been a serviceable read. Still, as a big event Secret Invasion has been a disappointment. Yet, last issue gave me the hope that Bendis will deliver an exciting finale to this event. If nothing else, Secret Invasion #6 should provide the reader with plenty of enjoyable action. We finally get to see Iron Man, Captain America and Thor back together again and fighting on the same side. I have a feeling that Secret Invasion #6 is going to be a fun read. Let?s do this review. Creative Team Writer: Brian Michael Bendis Pencils: Leinel Yu Inks: Mark Morales Art Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 4 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with Marvel Boy flying around when suddenly one of the Skrull ships from th...
Comic Book Review: Detective Comics #848
2008-09-09 17:30:00 The Revolution has enjoyed Paul Dini's work on Batman, starting with the animated adventures and continuing through Detective Comics. This month features part 3 of Heart of Hush. The first two parts were good and I expect this to be another great Dini story. Fans of the Hush from the Loeb/Lee series should like Dini's work on filling out the background of Hush in this storyline. Creative Team Writer: Paul Dini Pencils: Dustin Nguyen Inks: Derek Fridolfs Art Rating: 4 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: Catwoman is getting dressed. Comic Book Review: Nightwing #148
2008-09-08 14:30:00 Under Peter Tomasi's guidance, Nightwing has become one of the favorites of the Revolution. Tomasi has the perfect mixture of drama and humor. His Nightwing is the James Bond of the superhero set. He is the cool guy with a sense of humor. Tomasi has also been putting him up against A-list villains. Talia was in his first story line. This story features Two-Face. Creative Team Writer: Peter Tomasi Pencils: Rags Morales Inks: Michael Bair and Bob Petrecca Art Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: In the first part of this story, Harvey (Two-Face) Dent recruited Nightwing to protect his former love, Carol. Comic Book Review: Sub-Mariner: The Depths #1
2008-09-07 17:00:00 The highly anticipated Sub-Mariner mini-series has arrived in the bunker. The Revolution members are fans of the artist. Just looking at the cover lets you know you are in for an artistic treat. Hopefully the story measures up to the art. In Rokk's words, Sub-Mariner has the potential to be Marvel's Black Adam. Creative Team Writer: Peter Milligan Artist: Esad Ribic Art Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 6.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: The story starts with the submarine Plato on patrol. The captain describes how he had to lock up one of the crewmen. We see the crewman in a straight jacket. His fear has gotten the best of him. The captain explains that there is no such thing as the Sub-Mariner. He is a legend. Besides, he would visit the captain before he would visit the second engineer. Next, we see a man in the observation area of the submarine. He spots something beautiful in the darkness of the ocean. A flash of light ...
Comic Book Review: Titans #4
2008-09-06 20:30:00 The Revolution continues to find Judd Winick?s Titans a completely unimpressive read. It is stunning how bad this title has been considering that DC gave Winick the keys to the ultimate roster of Teen Titans. When I first heard that DC tabbed Winick to be the writer of the Titans, I thought to myself that not even Winick could screw up a title starring the classic Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans. I was wrong. Let?s hope that Titans #4 is at least average. Let?s go ahead and do this review. Creative Team Writer: Judd WinickPencils: Joe Benitez Inks: Victor Llamas & Oliver Nome Art Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 4 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 4.5 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with Trigon?s three sons squaring off against the Titans. Beast Boy yammers on as Winick completely drives the point through the ground about how there are actually three sons of Trigon instead of just one as they had previously thought. We then see Raven immobilized as her brot...
Comic Book Review: Justice Society of America #18
2008-09-05 17:30:00 Justice Society of America is one of DC?s strongest and most dependable titles. I would certainly say that this is DC?s best team title at the moment. I fully expect Justice Society of America #18 to be another fine read as we finally get to see the appearance of Magog. Let?s go ahead and hit this review. Creative Team Writer: Geoff Johns Pencils: Dale Eaglesham & Jerry Ordway Inks: Mick Gray, Kris Justice, Nathan Massengill, Jerry Ordway Art Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10. Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10. Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10. Synopsis: We begin with an African tribal militia raping and killing the locals of a small village. That is until Gog and the JSA show up on the scene. The JSA members begin kicking ass on the tribal militia. Hawkman shows what a bad-ass warrior he is by destroying on some of the militia members. Hawkman is about to kill one of the tribesmen when Jay Garrick stops him. Jay reminds Hawkman that the JSA does not kill. Tha...
Comic Book Review: Invincible Iron Man #5
2008-09-05 04:15:00 The Revolution continues to be summarily unimpressed with the insipid story that Fraction has given us on Invincible Iron Man. Thom reviewed the last issue of Invincible Iron Man so I figured I would review Invincible Iron Man #5 in order to prevent any unnecessary trauma on Thom by forcing him to have to review this title back-to-back. Thom?s assessment of the last issue was about the same as mine. Great art and unimpressive writing. Maybe Fraction can surprise me and crank out a great read with Invincible Iron Man #5. Let?s hit this review. Creative Team Writer: Matt Fraction Artist: Salvador Larroca Art Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10 Story Rating: 4 Night Girls out of 10 Overall Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10 Synopsis: We begin with the four Stark facilities that Stane has targeted to blow up. Comic Book Review: Mighty Avengers #17
2008-09-03 14:30:00 Secret Invasion tie-ins have been the most inconsistant books we get in the bunker. We, at the Revolution, have seen some great tie-ins. Others have been poorly done. 2008-09-02 21:50:00 The Revolution enjoyed Final Crisis: Rogues? Revenge #1. Johns delivered a nicely paced and entertaining issue. There is no better writer to handle the Rogues than Johns. I am confident that Final Crisis: Rogues? Revenge #2 will be another quality read. Let?s go ahead and hit this review.Creative TeamWriter: Geoff JohnsArtist: Scott KollinsArt Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Libra and the Secret Society agreeing that the Rogues turning down membership to the Society will make them look bad. Comic Book Review: Wolverine #68
2008-09-01 22:00:00 Old Man Logan has been at hit with The Revolution. The basic premise is this is Wolverine's personal Days of Future Past type story. In the first 2 parts we learned that it has been 50 years since the heroes fell. Super-villains carved America to pieces. Each claimed their own empire. One man does not want to remember. He is Logan, the hero formerly known as Wolverine. He has not used his claws since that final battle. Logan settled in Sacramento and is raising his family. His family is threatened by the Hulk Gang(Bruce Banner's descendants). They want rent money that Logan does not have. The now blind Clint (Hawkeye) Barton calls on his old friend. Clint is crossing the country while he tries to take some cargo to New Babylon. He needs a guide. The pair fight their way through a San Francisco overrun by the Moloids. They make their way to Hammer Falls where Clint meets up with his ex-wife Tonya(the daughter of Spider-Man).They have a daughter, Ashley, who is trying to become a supe...
Comic Book Review: Legion of Super-Heroes #45
2008-08-31 16:30:00 It is always a good day in the bunker when a new issue of Jim Shooter's Legion of Super-Heroes arrives. Last month, Jim delivered a good story but the fill-in artist was a good match for it. This month sees the return of Francis Manapul. The hard part this month is seeing George Perez on Legion of Three Worlds then seeing the regular artist on this book. The good part is we get to experience multiple Legion books each month. Last month ended with a cliff-hanger and it will be interesting to see how Shooter wraps up this one.Creative TeamWriter: Jim ShooterPencils: Francis ManapulInks: LivesayArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: The story begins the Legion's headquarters on the planet Earth in the 31st century. In previous issues, the United Planets government has been harassing the Legion. Now, President Kieselbach is appearing by remote linkup. She tells the Legion that a planet the size of Saturn...
Comic Book Review: Final Crisis: Superman Beyond #1
2008-08-31 00:20:00 DC is really cranking up the Final Crisis frenzy this week. Part of that is Morrison?s Final Crisis: Superman Beyond #1. Evidently, this title is going to consist of Morrison getting all metaphysical on us as his delves deeply into the inner workings of the Multiverse. Since I am a huge fan of the Multiverse and I dig Morrison?s style of writing, I am pretty confident that I will enjoy this issue. Let?s go ahead and hit this review for Final Crisis: Superman Beyond #1.Creative TeamWriter: Grant MorrisonPencils: Doug MahnkeInks: Christian Alamy, Rodney Ramos, Tom Nguyen, Walden Wong and Doug MahnkeArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with a shadowy caped figure using his eye beams to blast Superman into the ground. Comic Book Review: DC Universe: Last Will and Testament
2008-08-29 13:00:00 DC Universe: Last Will and Testament is a one-shot Final Crisis tie-in issue. It is brought to us by Brad Meltzer. Since I dig most of Meltzer?s work and I am enjoying Final Crisis, I figured that it would be worth my while to give this one-shot a try. This issue is supposed to deal with various characters across the DCU as they prepare for what they believe is going to be the end of the world given the events that we have gotten over on Final Crisis. Hopefully, this issue offers the reader some substance rather than just a flimsy big event tie-in issue designed to bilk readers of their money. Let?s go ahead and do this review for DC Universe: Last Will and Testament.Creative TeamWriter: Brad MeltzerPencils: Adam KubertInks: Joe Kubert & John DellArt Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Geo-Force demonstrating his new powers to Black Lightning. Comic Book Review: Eternals #3
2008-08-28 19:07:00 The Revolution has enjoyed The Eternals. I have always liked Kirby?s cosmic characters and I think that the Eternals have plenty of potential. Unfortunately, I do not know if this title is going to make it. The Eternals have never been that popular and the Knaufs are going to have a tough time convincing comic book readers to hop aboard this title. Let?s go ahead and hit this review for Eternals #3.Creative TeamWriters: Charles and Daniel KnaufArtist: Daniel AcunaArt Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 6.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Makkari sitting in his loft in San Francisco. Comic Book Review: Captain America #41
2008-08-27 01:33:00 The Revolution is a big fan of Brubaker?s Captain America. This current story arc has been wonderfully crafted and we are rapidly heading toward the conclusion. Captain America #41 is the penultimate issue of this story arc so I expect Brubaker to crank out a gem of an issue that has plenty of unexpected twists and turns. Let?s go ahead and hit the review for Captain America #41.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerPencils: Steve EptingInks: Rick Magyar & Steve EptingArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Sam and Bucky in a hotel room playing poker. Of course, they are playing for Euros and not dollars. Suddenly, Redwing links up with Sam and reports back that the 1950?s Cap is still hiding out in the same spot for the past four days. Redwing reports that a group of AIM soldiers is now circling the 1950?s Cap?s location. We see the 1950?s Cap in a diner with a bunch of AIM soldiers outsid...
Comic Book Review: Flash #243
2008-08-26 14:00:00 The Flash is one comic that was severely damaged by DC's One Year Later move. When Geoff Johns left the title, it started floundering. Replacing Wally West with Bart Allen was a disaster. I don't know if it was the team that was working on the title or the move itself.DC realized the mistake and brought back Wally and family. The title was better but not up to speed under the guidance of Mark Waid(who was one of the best Flash writers of the past). Tom Peyer has followed Waid. Peyer has been getting better with each issue. The bad news is that this is his last issue. Next month Alan Burnett will be taking over. Burnett wrote some excellent Batman stories many years ago. The Revolution will give him a wait and see approach.Creative TeamWriter: Tom PeyerArt: Freddie E. Williams IIArt Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: Wally (Flash) West and his wife Linda have 2 children. Comic Book Review: Marvel 1985 #4
2008-08-26 00:18:00 The Revolution enjoyed the first two issues of Marvel 1985, but the last one was a bit of a disappointment. Millar has given the reader a slow story and since we are limited to just six issues, Millar really needs to get the story moving with Marvel 1985 #4. I am afraid that Marvel 1985 will end up being a story that had plenty of potential, but never really amounted to much in the end. Let?s go ahead and hit this review for Marvel 1985 #4.Creative TeamWriter: Mark MillarArtist: Tommy Lee EdwardsArt Rating: 2 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 4 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Toby and his father managing to escape an attack by the Lizard. Comic Book Review: X-Factor Layla Miller #1
2008-08-25 02:30:00 Peter David's X-Factor is a favorite here in the bunker. So a special about one of the most interesting and at the same time aggravating members is something. This should be a great story. With Layla Miller lost in the future, she has not appeared in the regular X-Factor comic. Fans are curious as to what has happened to her since her disappearance.Creative TeamWriter: Peter DavidPencils: Valentine de LandroInks: Andrew HennessyArt Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: The place: the Mutant Containment Center at Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. The buildings are run down. 2 guards are talking about a bet the guards have. The subject is a girl who walked out of the building, stood still as a statue and does not talk. OBAMA AND MCCAIN COMIC BOOK SUPERHEROES
2008-08-01 17:15:00 San Diego-based publisher is about to release comic books based on the life stories of presumptive presidential nominees Barack Obama and John McCain. "We're not doing anything that is sensational here," IDW special projects editor Scott Dunbier told the Associated Press, adding that neither campaign had anything to do with the projects. "We're sticking to the facts." The books, which are independently researched and illustrated by a veteran team of writers and artists, will be available online, via cell phones and in comic book shops beginning Oct. 8. According to the Associated Press, Obama's biography is being written by novelist Jeff Mariotte (Superman, Spider-Man, Star Trek), and drawn by artist Tom Morgan. J. Scott Campbell did both covers; each features its candidate in the classic superhero pose of squared shoulders and fists on hips with an American flag in the background.

Comic Book Retreat
2008-07-23 21:40:00 Obviously, I have gotten a little behind in my writing on comicbookday.com. I’ve been spending much of my time on chaplainandrews.comto communicate to families and friends while I am here in Iraq. But, I am longing for just a couple of days of rest, where I can read more than one comic book at a time. ...

Comic Book Review: Kick-Ass #3
2008-06-08 21:45:00 Kick-Ass is another title put out by Icon Comics which is an imprint owned by Marvel Comics and is reserved for creator owned titles. I have been reading Criminal which is another Icon title for quite some time. I like creator owned titles and try my best to support them. I would rather the actual creators of a comic book get my money than some big faceless corporation who has a history of exploiting its talent.Even though the previews for Kick-Ass failed to capture my interest, I decided to go ahead and give this title a try. My main reason for doing so is the wonderful creative team of Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. That is one talented duo and I simply had to believe that they would deliver a quality read. And they certainly did. I liked Kick-Ass #1 just fine, but it was the second issue of Kick-Ass that really hooked me into this title.I have been remiss in not posting a review for Kick-Ass, yet. That is a shame, because smaller press titles like Kick-Ass deserve some publicit...

Comic Book Review: Trinity #1
2008-06-06 14:50:00 The Revolution is going to let DC suck us back into yet another weekly title. Yeah, Countdown stunk on ice, but you would think that would mean DC has learned their lesson and will put forth a strong effort to make Trinity a good read. I still have reservations about yet another title dealing with Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. However, I plan on keeping my mind open and will hope for the best. Let?s go ahead and do this review for Trinity #1.Creative TeamWriter: Kurt Busiek & Fabian NiciezaPencils: Mark Bagley & Scott McDanielInks: Art Thibert & Andy OwensArt Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with a giant fiery face in deep space screaming ?Let me out!!? Comic Book Review: Secret Invasion #3
2008-06-05 16:20:00 The Revolution was highly unimpressed with Bendis? pedestrian effort on Secret Invasion #2. My fears of Bendis failing to move the story along with a point and purpose seemed be materializing after last issue. Hopefully, Bendis will sharpen his focus and get this story rolling with some serious momentum with Secret Invasion #3. Let?s go ahead and hit this review.Creative TeamWriter: Brian Michael BendisPencils: Leinel YuInks: Mark MoralesArt Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin the SHIELD helicarrier floating in the ocean in the Bermuda Triangle. Comic Book Commentary: Iron Man: Director of SHIELD
2008-06-05 13:30:00 The Revolution is not having the best morning. It stated out well enough. The kitchen was full of the wonderful warm aromas of fresh media lunas and Café Bustelo. Add a little dulce de leche to that and you have the perfect start to any day.Of course, that was until I checked my e-mail. With a steaming cup of Café Bustelo in one hand and a mouthful of media lunas I opened an e-mail from Tenzil. From that point my morning took a nose dive. Tenzil sent me a link to a CBR article dealing with my favorite Marvel character: Iron Man.The article reported that Marvel Editor Bill Rosemann confirmed for CBR News that a new regular creative team will be named shortly for #36 and beyond that will replace the outgoing writing tandem of Daniel and Charles Knauf.?And that is where my fine morning went completely wrong. The sad thing is that I have been waiting for this moment to happen. Once it was announced that the Knaufs would be taking a ?break? from Iron Man: Director of SHIELD and then retu...
Comic Book Review: Uncanny X-Men #498
2008-06-03 20:55:00 Ever since the end of Messiah Complex, Uncanny X-Men has been a solid, but certainly not spectacular, read. I am beginning to get the nagging feeling that Brubaker does not know where to go with this title in the wake of Messiah Complex. Uncanny X-Men appears to be losing some of its focus. And that is unusual for a Brubaker penned title. Hopefully, Brubaker can bring Uncanny X-Men up to his high standard of writing that we get on his other titles. Let?s do this review for Uncanny X-Men #498.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerArt: Michael ChoiArt Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with a flashback scene in San Francisco when the ?goddess? arrived on the scene. That she can?t hear them. The woman then asks...
Comic Book Review: New Avengers #41: Secret Invasion
2008-06-02 21:59:00 Bendis continues to do a fine job on the Secret Invasion tie-in issues. The Revolution by far and away finds the tie-in issues more captivating than the actual story itself over on Secret Invasion. I am confident that Bendis will turn in another great read with New Avengers #41. Let?s do this review.Creative TeamWriter: Brain Michael BendisArtist: Billy TanArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 6.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with scene from Secret Invasion #2 where the ridiculous plot device, I mean Tyrannosaurus Rex conveniently rampages through the fight between the 1970?s heroes and our present day heroes. We see that Spider-Man gets thrown by the T-Rex and flies through the air and lands quite some distance away from the fight scene. And conveniently enough out of all the places that Spider-Man could land, he lands directly in front of Ka-Zar and Shanna. We proceed to get the typical if not well worn to slightly beaten... |
