It appears that sanity is returning this week as we have a much smaller shipment of comic books headed to the Bunker. I was buried under the avalanche of the 18 comic books that I got last week and it took me until yesterday to finish them all. Luckily, I get a bit of a breather as it appears that only a mere 10 titles are headed to the Bunker today. This week?s shipment of comic books is slightly Marvel heavy.Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Trinity #1 certainly piques my interest. Yeah, I know, I?m a glutton for punishment. I have battered wife syndrome and no matter how much pain DC inflicted on me with Countdown, I am going to sign up for their next weekly comic book in Trinity.I just have to b...

Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Batman #677Final Crisis #1Giant Sized Astonishing X-Men #1Marvel 1985 #1The Winner: Batman #677We got absolutely spoiled this week with plenty of fantastic reads. Despite my annoyance over the rotten shipping schedule, I completely enjoyed Giant Sized Astonishing X-Men #1. Now, would it have been nice if this title could have actually met its shipping schedule? Yes. And did Whedon unnecessarily stretch out this story? Yes. But, the fact is that Giant Sized Astonishing X-Men #1 was a good read. Now, for the record I am not nor have I ever been a Kitty Pryde fan. But, I loved how Whedon wrote her in this issue. Kitty?s heroism and sacrifice made me a big fan of her character. Seeing Kitty phase the massive rocket bullet through the Earth was simply bad-assed. And I dig Kitty?s tragic fate. It removes her from the playing field without killing her. Whedon makes it so that an...

As always, Brubaker served up another quality read with Captain America #38. I already praised this book enough in my review. Suffice it to say that when it comes to consistency it is tough to beat what Brubaker has delivered in the past thirty-eight issues on Captain America.Fantastic Four #557 was another good read. Now, I don?t find Millar and Hitch?s run on Fantastic Four to rival what they did over on the Ultimates. However, that doesn?t mean that it isn?t still a class effort. Fantastic Four may not be anything mind-blowing or revolutionary, but it is certainly an entertaining and well crafted read.Bendis continues to impress with his Secret Invasion back-...

I love it when we get a week like this one. Batman #676 was an enjoyable start to the ?Batman RIP? story arc. Morrison succeeded in capturing my interest with this issue. The Club of Villains is an intriguing looking group of characters. This was a promising start to what should be a complex and well crafted story.Booster Gold #9 was another gem. Johns and Katz have delivered one of the best reads on the market with this title. The way that they are delicately meshing Booster into DC?s continuity has been enjoyable to watch. This issue was action packed and quickly paced as we rush toward the dramatic conclusion of this story.I loved Guardians of the Galaxy #1. DnA turn in the per...

Avengers/Invaders #1 was a good debut issue to what should be a great 12 issue series. Krueger is a master the set-up issue since he has a talent for introducing characters in a quick and entertaining fashion.Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #1 was nothing but pure fun. This title isn?t anything intense, dramatic or complex. Instead, it is just good quality entertainment. This is the type of comic book that puts a smile on your face from start to finish. However, the title that I had to give The Che to is one that I did not even have a chance to review: X-Factor: Quick and the Dead #1. Peter David did a wonderful job with this one-shot issue. David has been pretty much the only writer to ac...
The Overly Ambitious Marvel Movie Line-Up

My only complaint is the title. It should just be the ?X-Men.?All right, let?s check out the comic books for this week. We have 13 titles headed to the Bunker. Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Action Comics #864DC Universe #0Legion of Super Heroes #41Immortal Iron Fist #14New Avengers #40The Winner: DC Universe #0Last week treated us to an excellent crop of comic books. This was a tough decision for me to decide which issue was going to receive The Che this week. Action Comics #864 was an excellent teaser issue for the upcoming Legion of Three Worlds mini-series. Johns does his job by providing enough back-ground information for newer readers while getting long time readers pumped up for a titanic showdown with the Time Trapper.Legion of Super Heroes #41 was another excellent read. Shooter continues to impress me with his work on this title. I was initially skeptical about DC?s decision to go to an old Legion writer from the 1960?s to revive this moribund title. Well, the old man still has it and Shooter has proven my reservations completely unfounded. Shooter...

Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Batman #675Mighty Avengers #12Thor #8The Winner: Thor #8This was a pretty solid collection of comic books this week. Morrison served up a surprisingly intense and unexpected ending with Batman #675. I continue to be impressed with Morrison?s Batman and enjoy how Morrison is handling Bruce?s character.Mighty Avengers #12 was a great read. I was so impressed with how Bendis wrote Fury?s character. It is wonderful to see Bendis flexing his obvious creative talents and write a unique voice for Fury that didn?t read like a trademark ?Bendis voice.? Mighty Avengers #12 proved two things. First, that Bendis can flat out write the hell out of Nick Fury and if old one-eye ever got his own title then Bendis should be the writer. Second, that Bendis really excels in stories that center on a single character rather than on a team full of characters. However, I had to give the Che for...
Supreme Courts Decides, Graphic Novels Must be Called Comic Books
2008-04-28 01:46:00
The Justices ruled 8 to 1 on the controversial issue. Clarence Thomas strongly opposed. "Are you telling that, the Frank Miller Batman, were he has a hot young girl as Robin, is  not worthy to be called a novel, this is complete B.S." Thomas said before he went to his Washington D.C. apartment which he shares with Colin Powell. Many business are also worried that this decision may lead to violence. "We all have to deal with the guy who masturbates to Rogue from X-men, in the bathroom on his lunch   break, I sure don't want to be the one to tell him that he can no longer pick Punisher as a great character in literature, when we play celebrity at our Christmas party," said a concerned unnamed manager, of a local D.C. business.    The other  supreme  court justices,  are also concerned  for  judge  Thomas's  sanity over the issue. It seems that Millar might just get me hooked on the Fantastic Four for the first time since I started reading comic books.Nova #11 was another good issue. DnA are doing a wonderful job on this title and have impressed me with their work. And that is saying much since I had never been all that impressed with DnA?s work up until Nova. However, I always keep an open mind and I?m glad ...

I?m beginning to feel much better, but having to miss time from work has really increased my workload for this week. So, let?s go ahead and check out the comic books for this week. We have another large week with 15 titles headed to the Bunker this week. This week?s shipment of comic books is a bit heavier with Marvel titles than DC titles.Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? This is a tough choice. We have several exciting reads headed out way from DC. Salvation Run #5 should be an entertaining read. I have been pleasantly surprised with this mini-series. I was all prepared to be completely unimpressed with this titl...
Weekly Awards For The Comic Books From March 5, 2008

Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Green Lantern #28Moon Knight #16The Winner: Green Lantern #28Unlike last week, this week was a really easy pick. There were plenty of solid and serviceable reads this past week, but not too many that were anything special. Moon Knight #16 was another fine read. Moon Knight is a balanced title that combines hardcore violence along with well crafted dialogue and excellent character work. If you enjoy dark and mentally unstable heroes then I would definitely recommend giving Moon Knight a try. However, I had to hand the Che to Green Lantern #28. I?ve already posted a review for this issue, so I?m not going to re-hash how much I enjoy what Johns is doing on this title. Suffice it to say that Green Lantern is without a doubt DC?s heavy hitter at the moment and is well worth your hard earned money. And now the nominees for the Sequential Methadone Award for the worst read of the...

10 Superhero Comic Books Your Kids Should Be Reading
2008-03-06 00:56:00
There was a time when parents warned their kiddos that reading comics would rot their brains. Okay, some people still say that, but I'm sure a lot of you would love for your kids to put down that Xbox controller and just read something! The fam and I are in the local comic shop every Wednesday like obedient comic nerds and I'll let the uninitiated in on a little secret... comic books really aren't for kids. Case in point: Supergirl. I'm not referring to older teenagers, of course, as I'm sure plenty of the mainstream books are suitable. However, tweens and younger should be relegated to the comic shop's (appallingly) small kiddie section. Don't worry, your geeklings will dig this stuff, too! Both DC and Marvel have age-appropriate titles that feature your kids' favorite superheroes. Best of all, they are self-contained stories, so your kids won't get lost if they miss an issue or two. (Saves you money in the long run, that. Trust me, collecting is a disease.)I heartily reco...

AppleThis Top 10 list was compiled by Fortune and its survey partners at Hay Group who questioned more than 3,700 people from dozens of industries. I have to admit that I am a total Apple whore. I love just about everything that Steve Jobs trots out. I have also been impressed with how Google has managed their company and their growth. However, I don?t really care much about the rest of the companies in this list. All right, let?s check out the comic books for this week. We have another large week with 12 titles headed to the Bunker this week. This week?s shipme...

We really got spoiled with so many fantastic reads this week. This was certainly one of the stronger selection of comic books that we have gotten in a long time. I enjoyed All Star Batman and Robin #9 immensely. However, the outrageous style of writing and limited appeal prevented this title from garnering the Che this week. Both of Brubaker?s reads were impressive. Captain America #35 was another quality read. However, it lacked that something special in order to win the Che. Daredevil #105 was flat out awesome. This month, Daredevil was actually better than Captain America. Daredevil #105 gave us an incredibly satisfying ending to the...

Justice League of America #18 and Mighty Avengers #9 were both pleasant surprises as both issues delivered enjoyable and fun reads this week. Both issues were fast reads that offered a delightful bit of escapism.I also really enjoyed Superman/Batman #46. This issue was a great read. I found Superman?s reaction to the magic Kryptonite hilarious. It was humorous seeing the Man of Steel acting like he had taken several massive bong hits. Superman?s bad case of the munchies was perfect. This issue also gave us a neat little character study on Batman. We get a nice glimpse into Batman?s dismissal and dislike of anything magic. We also get to see the Batman/Zatanna relationship that Dini created over in Detective Comics fleshed out...

Tenzil and I were working out in the gym here at the Bunker when he told me about the big controversy surrounding this issue of Playboy. So, of course, after we left the gym I immediately scrambled around the internet looking for a picture of this cover of Playboy. Oh my. Wonder Woman has never looked so fine.I have seen that DC has trotted out the no comment response concerning this Playboy cover. Legally, there isn?t much they can do. Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Ghost Rider #20X-Factor #28X-Force #1The Winner: X-Factor #28This week was another average week. Almost all of the comic books this week were solid reads, but none of them were anything spectacular that would separate them from the rest of the pack. I enjoyed the debut issue of X-Force. I certainly found this issue to be better than my initial expectations. I?m actually excited about the fact that X-Force might actually be able to earn a spot on The Revolution?s permanent pull list.Ghost Rider #20 was just a blast to read. It is great that Aaron has finally made this title an enjoyable read after having to suffer through Way?s dismal run. I have a positive feeling that with Aaron at the helm that we should be in store for plenty of testosterone fueled 1970?s style horror and action on this title. In the end, I had to award the Che to X-Factor #28. Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Moon Knight #15Uncanny X-Men #495The Winner: Moon Knight #15This week was actually a pretty ordinary week. I didn?t find any of the issues to be particularly amazing reads other than Moon Knight #15. This week was simply one of those weeks where you get a bunch of serviceable but nothing incredible reads. I had to place Uncanny X-Men #495 into the mix since it was the second best read this week. Brubaker crafted a fine story even though nothing particular happened in this issue. And Choi?s artwork was just drop dead gorgeous. This is some of the best artwork that we have gotten on any X-title in quite some time. However, Moon Knight #15 was hands down the best read this week. Mike Benson is doing an excellent job replacing Charlie Huston on this title. Benson crafts a raw and visceral story in this issue. Benson clearly understands Moon Knight?s mentally unstable ...

This was a tough decision to make. Green Lantern #27 was a great read. I liked the new Alpha-Lanterns and am extremely excited about the direction of this title. Ultimate Spider-Man #118 was just pure fun. Yeah, there was no action. But, this issue gave us Bendis at his best. We get a wonderful look into a group of young metahumans hanging out and just being teenagers and enjoying life. I wish Bendis would stick to titles like Ultimate Spider-Man that showcase his strengths rather than wasting time on titles like the Avengers that just make him look bad. Now, after reading Captain America #34, I was sure that this issue was going to win the Che for best read of the week. I am having an absolute blast reading the Legion of Super Heroes and on any other week, Legion of Super Heroes #38 would probably have won the Che award. However, the fact is that the Knaufs are simply on another level all together over on Iron Man. There are very few titles currently on the market that can rival the depth, complexity and maturity that the Knaufs deliver on Iron Man every month. The quality of writing on Iron Man is quite simply some of the best that you will find from either Marvel or DC. It looks like we have a total of 11 titles headed to the Bunker this week. This week?s shipment of comic books is a bit heavier with Marvel titles than DC titles. Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Oh, this is just too easy. It simply has to be Legion of Super Heroes #38.
