15 Startup Commandments
2008-05-24 21:02:00
Hi,  I just recently joined facebook, and found very nice commandments for startups there. Can’t stop myself for putting in my online diary(this blog) and share further. +15 Startup Commandments 1. Your idea isn’t new. Pick an idea; at least 50 other people have thought of it. Get over your stunning brilliance and realize that execution matters more. 2. Stealth startups suck. You’re not working on the Manhattan Project, Einstein. Get something out as quickly as possible and promote the hell out of it. 3. If you don’t have scaling problems, you’re not growing fast enough. 4. If you’re successful, people will try to take advantage of you. Hope that you’re in that position, and hope that you’re smart enough to not fall for it. 5. People will tell you they know more than you do. If that’s really the case, you shouldn’t be doing your startup. 6. Your competition will inflate their numbers. Take any startup traffic number and sl...

Commenting on Ben’s 10 Commandments of Surefire Home Business Success
2008-04-20 10:18:00
Ben has some interesting points about running a business from home in his “10 Commandments of Surefire Home Business Success!“. I found them (and actually his entire blog) as an interesting resource for running a home business, so now I need to comment on his points: Be Professional. People usually find it difficult to maintain the same level of professionalism at home as they do at a 9-5. But believe me, professionalism is key to your success as a home business owner. Correct! The thing that usually happens is that because you are small, you tend to do some things on a lower level, some sort of “well, it’s going to work this way as well” in which “this way” is not very good. Of course, in some cases, you simply can’t perform better, but if you let this add up, you will get a messy business. You will have not so good contracts, not so good offers, not so good customer care, not so good supplies and then, you’re not so good eith...
Ten Commandments for Atheists, pt. 2
2008-04-15 23:13:00
The ironically named Christian, proprietor of Free Thinking Joy, asserts that the Ten Commandments are perfectly compatible with atheism. It is absurd on its face to think that any of the first four commandments, which center on man’s relationship to God, could be followed or even understood by atheists. Christian’s analysis is flawed, as ...

Iraq: The ten commandments
2008-04-15 08:50:00
I enjoyed this article so much that I basically just stole the whole thing outright. Read through it, and enjoy. Iraq: The ten commandmentsIn honor of Charlton Heston, here are 10 lessons we should engrave on our foreign policy tablets as we prepare to leave Iraq.By Gary KamiyaApr. 15, 2008 | The Iraq war is over. The failure of Bush's surgeto produce political reconciliation in Iraq, combined with theunsustainable stress on our military and Congress' unwillingness tokeep writing checks for $12 billion a month, all point in onedirection: withdrawal. Even if John McCainis somehow elected president -- and for that to happen, there wouldhave to be a near-miraculous breakthrough on the ground -- he too willhave to face the reality that this is not the kind of war you win. Youjust have to decide when you're going to cut your losses. This is a surreal situation. The war drones along on autopilot, butit's already finished. It's a dead war walking. We're just waiting for George W. Bu...
The Ten Legal Commandments of Photography
2008-04-15 00:21:00
The Ten Legal Commandments of Photography I. Anyone in a public place can take pictures of anything they want. Public places include parks, sidewalks, malls, etc. Malls? Yeah. Even though it?s technically private property, being open to the public makes it public space. II. If you are on public property, you can take pictures of private property. If a building, for example, is visible from the sidewalk, it?s fair game. III. If you are on private property and are asked not to take pictures, you are obligated to honor that request. This includes posted signs. IV. Sensitive government buildings (military bases, nuclear facilities) can prohibit photography if it is deemed a threat to national security. V. People can be photographed if they are in public (without their consent) unless they have secluded themselves and can expect a reasonable degree of privacy. Kids swimming in a fountain? Okay. Somebody entering their PIN at the ATM? Not okay. VI. The following can almost always be pho...
The Ten Commandments (50th Anniversary Collection) (1956)
2008-04-07 15:04:00
For sheer pageantry and spectacle, few motion pictures can claim to equal the splendor of Cecil B. DeMille's 1956 remake of his epic The Ten Commandments. Filmed in Egypt and the Sinai with one of the biggest sets ever constructed for a motion picture, this version tells the story of the life of Moses (Charlton Heston), once favored in the Pharaoh's (Yul Brynner) household, who turned his back on a privileged life to lead his people to freedom. With a rare on-screen introduction by Cecil B. DeMille himself, this unforgettable movie experience is enhanced by a Dolby surround stereo soundtrack. View more details

My Ten Commandments
2008-03-30 05:16:00
Here is a compilation of my Ten Commandments of Trading. In my sole opinion, these are the "fundamentals" of becoming a successful trader. Look these over and feel free to comment at will. Keep in mind this took a couple hours to compile, so be nice.1. Thou shalt have a trading planIf you don't have a plan, get one. What is your approach? What are your rules? These are questions that you need to answer before you can title yourself a trader. Creating a plan gives you something to follow, an outline of where you want to be, and what is required in between.2. Thou shalt not trade with emotionThis includes, fear, greed and lack of discipline. There is no room for it in this equation. Find a way to get a better handle on it, and/or walk away from it. I can tell you from experience that you will have an impossible time being successful at trading when making emotional decisions.3. Thou shalt embrace losingA trader has to fight a lot of expensive enemies within himself. It is i...

Why Do You Call Yourself Good?

This thought surfaced today: it amuses me that when asked if we are good people, we Christians never hesitate to answer ‘yes’ most of the time. The five commandments to promote your website
2008-02-12 13:10:00
Search engine experts sometimes go blindly after projects and get derailed before reaching their final destination. There is little for a website owner given the tragic end that even experts face. But there are some areas on which you can work upon and hence lay a solid foundation for your online project. The five commandments, which every expert and publisher must keep in mind while making or promoting website, are:Content is the King: Whatever appears on your website has a definite value. If your content is an average type, meaning that there are language and communication errors, few resources, unorganised presentation, there is little an optimising expert can do. On the contrary he may suggest you for a total reformation in the content. Spend some time as it is the business you are in.Allocating the time: Everything happens in particular time frame. To tell you the truth there is no escaping, at least not in this case. Therefore, you must be able to devote your time everything r...
How heavy were the Ten Commandments?
2008-02-09 22:34:00
I know it isn't relevant until Ki Tissa, which we won't read for another two weeks. (Or it was relevant to the daf from 3 weeks ago), but I was just wondering...How heavy were the two tablets that Moshe brought down from Mount Sinai? I mean in weight, not in importance. The Talmud (Nedarim 38a) tells us:R. Johanan said: The Holy One, blessed be He, causes His Divine Presence to rest only upon him who is strong, wealthy, wise and meek; and all these [qualifications] are deduced from Moses. Strong, for it is written, And he spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle; and a Master said, Moses our teacher spread it; and it is also written, Ten cubits shall be the length of the board. Yet perhaps it was long and thin? ? But [it is derived] from this verse: And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them. Now, it was taught: The tablss [sic, tables] were six [handbreadths] in length, six in breadth, and three in thickness. There are different opinions as the ...

The Checklist Of SEO Commandments by Online Internet Business
2008-02-07 13:13:00
It?s a known fact that 80% of the traffic you will be able to generate for your website would come from the search engines. People log on to the internet hoping to find some information on a matter they are interested with. They know what they?re looking for. But often, they don?t know where to go.So what do they do?They consult with the search engines. After all, who doesn?t know about Google, Yahoo or MSN? With the phrase they have in mind, they type the same and press the search button, to be led to millions of web pages that cater to the same search phrase.Yes. Millions. And where does the user usually go to? Naturally, to the first websites he?ll find? those which are on top of the list in these search engine results.Your goal as a webmaster would be to place your website as high as it can in the search engine ladder. Doing so is no small feat, that is certain. But it is doable, and this is what search engine optimization, or SEO, is all about. SEO is a collection of techniques?...
Effective E-mail Campaigns - 11 Commandments
2008-02-04 16:21:00
In a world of never ending SPAM it’s a real challenge to create successful e-mail campaigns but its not impossible. Here are some pointers to bear in mind: Avoid the hard sell - people get so much spam these days that if you try to sell to strangers via e, you’ll hit the junk file faster than you can say spam; Better to use email to keep in touch with clients than to try to sell - newsletters are better than sales letters; Use a call to action title - one that is brief, catchy, intelligent that will entice people to open the mail; By adding an unsubscribe button, your mail is perceived as more professional - just remember to delete those who request it from your mailing lists - always; Drive them back to your website by including a link - you can then easily track click throughs to make follow up calls more targeted; Make it simple stupid - the old adage applies here too - don’t add too many fancy images or graphics - it will just clog people’s mail boxes;...

Thou shalt heed these 10 commandments of investing
2007-12-18 01:36:00
By Mark Bruno, AUTHOR 1. Acknowledge that your retirement is a reality, even if it may be 30 or 40 years away. Your retirement will cost you more money than you could possibly imagine, and you don’t want to wait and see if you can play catch-up. 2. Don’t wait. Do something now. You are not entirely on your own, but it is up to you to take care of yourself. Commit to saving just a small portion of each pay cheque for your retirement before you can spend it. 3. Whenever there is free money, take it. If you are lucky enough to work for a boss who will make matching contributions to your retirement plan, take the money. 4. Treat your retirement as another line item taken out of each pay cheque. Instead of making large annual contributions to your retirement, have smaller contributions automatically deducted from your pay cheque. 5. If you think you can’t afford to save, you are probably wrong. Even saving as little as US$90 (S$130) a month will help you begin to ...
