Comments and Insights from Super Bowl XLVI Media Day
2012-02-01 01:17:00
Tuesday was media day at the Super Bowl as both the Patriots and Giants met with the media, legit and otherwise.  There were 18 podium stations set up for the major players and coaches while others milled about being interviewed. As with any media day there are always some nuggets that come from it. Giants safety Antrel Rolle said that the Giants team has come to Indianapolis expecting to win the game. ?We are not going to be denied.? New England TE Rob Gronkowski came out of his walking boot on Monday night and it won?t go back on the rest of the week.  As Gronk continually put it he and his injury are ?day-to-day?. Extra?s Maria Menounos, who was wearing a Patriots jersey, told Gronk that she has a wager that if the Giants win she has to wear a Giants bikini. Gronk said it was nice to know there could be a positive if the Patriots lose. Giants LB Matthias Kiwanuka is an Indianapolis native and gets to play the biggest game of his career in front of his family and friends...

I have wondered sometimes if the number of people commenting has taper off in recent years because the exchanges in our threads can become, well, heated.  I know this phenomenon is not unique to our blog.  Perhaps, it has become more acute of late because Bruce and I tend not to edit the comments (I ...

Stephanie McMahon Comments on the Future of the WWE
2012-01-05 04:15:00
During an interview with Heavy Muscle Radio, Stephanie McMahon was asked if she, Paul and Shane were the future of the WWE and would they take over for Vince. Stephanie said ultimately that is the goal but they have to prove themselves and they have a lot to learn. She also stated that Vince would never retire. She seemed to only refer to Paul and herself with her answer since Shane no longer works for the WWE.

Comments while looking through the Christmas Cards....
2012-01-01 18:13:00
My husband never paid attention to the Christmas Cards coming in this past month and is just now sitting down and going through them.  I'm laughing at some of the comments he is making...Like the one from Uncle Bert (not his real name...  he is an online friend and reader of Coffee Talking);"He makes unique X's!  I've never seen anyone do that before."And from a friends family with 3 cats - which they included photos of;"Oh look at that.  They have cats.  In outfits."And from some good friends and old neighbors of ours from Minneapolis;"You know, they haven't changed one bit.  Not one bit!  Not in fifteen years.  That's amazing.  Unless... this is an old picture."This is entertaining.

Google+ Streamlines Posting Options: Locking Post And Comments Added
2011-10-05 12:53:00
Google+, the Search Giant Google‘s take at Social Networking, has further expanded its array of post options. Google+ is currently being used extensively by Shahrukh Khan to promote RaOne, who incidentally is India’s 1st ‘Verified Celebrity‘ Account. Privacy, which is a major concern on other Social Networks like Facebook too, has been addressed in this change. Earlier, users could Comment on and Re-Share any post on Google+. Even if the post was Private, they could Re-Share it and effectively make it Public. Google+ used to tell the user that they may be sharing a post that was meant to be Private, but still gave them the option to Share it. Also, earlier, to close comments on a post, one had to first publish it and then go and make it Private. Now, one can disable Comments before sharing it with your Stream. In a Google+ update by Google Software Engineer Ebby Amirebrahimi here, they have further expanded on the feature: “One of my favorite parts abo...

New Site Stats Show You Who Comments Most
2011-09-07 18:22:00
Ever wanted to know who’s commenting the most on your blog and what posts they are commenting on? Now your Site Stats can tell you. The new Comments panel in your Site Stats provides three tabs: Top Commenters, Most Commented, and a Summary of comments on your blog. If your blog has fewer than 1000 total comments, your comment stats are based on all comments made since you started your blog. Comment stats for more active blogs reflect the most recent three months of comment activity. For example, a blog with 500 total comments will have the most commented post be the one that has had the most comments across the entire life of the blog. For this blog (with 87K comments) the most commented post is chosen from the posts that were posted in the past three months. The Stats Comments Panel is available now for all WordPress.com blogs. Jetpack users, please bear with us as we improve Jetpack to serve you the new comment stats in the future. Check out the comment stats on your blog b...
Indian press comments on Sathya Sai Baba

The Times of India published an article about Tasleema Nasreen’s tweet in which she criticized Sachin Tendulkar for his worship of Sathya Sai Baba. More than 2000 comments were made after the article. Many were very attacks on her integrity and right to freedom of speech, criticism of others and such low-minded and anti-democratic viewpoints. ...

I’m Bringing Comments Back…
2011-08-13 21:59:00
Alright, so I’m not bring comments back, but Mailchimp sure is with their new WordPress plug-in for improving comments. If you’re a blogger, you’ll probably agree that receiving comments can be a wonderful thing. Personally, I enjoy the engagement, the dialog, the understanding of how people are interpreting my content. The problem is that comments themselves have evolved. They don’t just take place on the blog; they take place on social media sites across the net. The challenge has become how to accurately represent that widespread conversation at the post level? Introducing Social WordPress Plug-In Social is a new WordPress Plugin that’s bringing comments back! Social is designed to aggregate the conversation happening on your blog posts with the conversation happening in networks like Twitter and Facebook. Not only that, but it brings new meaning to the hub and spoke approach to social media marketing. Let’s take a look at how social works. A little background to ...

Post Comments Using Twitter and Facebook
2011-06-07 20:44:00
Starting today, visitors to your blog can use their Facebook or Twitter account to leave comments. This saves everyone a few steps and gives visitors control over which identity they use.  It’s a win for everyone. As an important touch, we let you stay logged in to multiple services. This means you can stay logged in to Facebook for convenience, but still leave a comment through Twitter or your WordPress.com account. Just click whichever identity you’d like to use, and the selected one will be associated with your comment when it is published. You’re in control of your identity, as you should be. Depending on your theme, you may notice the comment area looks different than before to make room for these new features. We also intelligently choose to use a light or dark visual style for the comment box, depending on the theme you are currently using. And since you know your readers well, you can now change the text above the comment box to be whatever you like. We r...
Hans de Kraker: telling comments on Sai Baba on The Telegraph obituary
2011-05-29 15:03:00
The obituary of Sathya Sai Baba in The Telegraph (London) received a large number of comments. As to be expected, many were from anonymous Sathya Sai Baba followers, criticizing the Telegraph or critics of Sai Baba, often in quite primitive terms. The same old hackneyed ignorance of devotees about the extend and nature of the ...

Danny John: New Album pre release comments
2011-04-23 20:54:00
Mr Twister Process notes and comments by some of the Worlds Greatest Guitar Players. Danny John Trio is rolling out the much anticipated, second studio Album "Mr Twister. The music was conceived straight after the release of the first Album "Three days", in mid 2008. After a couple of line up changes, we are finally here. So, what of Danny John and his Album "Mr Twister"? Steve Trovato (The Country Jazzmaster): Mr Trovato's students have achieved major success and include Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, and Norman Brown. http://www.stevetrovato.com said: Danny, Mr. Twister is very cool. Huge guitar tone! I like the way you blend fusion jazz and hard rock. Great playing Steve Brett Garsed (really needs no introduction): To guitar aficionados he is probably best known for his scintillating instrumental collaborations with US guitarist TJ Helmerich. Their two releases for the now-defunct Legato Records label, Quid Pro Quo & Exempt, are among the most sought-after albums of the gen...
Greenpeace Ramps Up Pressure On Facebook With Record-Breaking Comments
2011-04-18 09:24:00
Greenpeace has found a new way to persuade Facebook and have the social network washing its hands off coal. They are using the social network’s platform to show Mark Zuckerberg and his team, the growing number of people who are also holding the same demand. The first step of this initiative was to create a page on Facebook — Unfriend Coal. And the second step, well, we doubt if Greenpeace anticipated that, but 70000 comments showed up on that page in just 24 hours. That fetched Greenpeace a Guinness World Record. Previously, the record was 50000 comments in 24 hours while on Greenpeace’s Facebook page the number of comments uploaded was almost 70000 in the equal time span. Though the Guinness World Record committee will verify it, we don’t think Greenpeace faked it. Why would they? If Facebook stops using coal, that will benefit our environment, not Greenpeace. Greenpeace volunteers are also trying their best to rope in Facebook employees to support their cause. A d...

Tubby Smith's Must Read Comments on Social Media, News Business
2011-01-22 16:50:00
In today's college basketball landscape, Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites are having more of an impact than ever.  At Media Day, I had a rather thought-provoking and exclusive conversation with the Minnesota Golden Gophers Head Coach, the legendary Tubby Smith about all the media issues that can affect his program, the Big Ten and beyond. "I'm not very savvy with it, but I know guys can, in the heat of battle say I'm coaching and there's a bad call and I got a cooling off period, but because you've got this little thing that you can go to and share, and later you go 'oh I really didn't mean it that way.' But at the heat of...
Regis Philbin Retires - Notre Dame Football Comments Will Be Missed
2011-01-18 19:55:00
After a career that spans 50 years as a pioneer talk show host, Regis Philbin announced he's retiring. This is his last year, as the CelebTV video shows: This blogger will miss Regis' rants about how well Notre Dame Football was or was not doing. The Notre Dame Alumn never masked his love for the University, but his quips were a great chronicle of how poorly the team performed during most of the Charlie Weis years. And I thought he was going to need Pepto Bismal after the way Notre Dame started the season. But Regis was rewarded with a winning Fighting Irish 2010 tour, and a bowl game win. Aside from that, Regis was a great complement to the hot, buffed, lovely Eelly Ripa, who expressed surprise over the news that Regis was retiring with "You're what?" But, after that long in show business, and the record for the longest time on TV, Regis deserves a rest.  He's 77 years old, and his multi-generational work proves that a person can remain relevant at any stage ...

Ros-Lehtinen Comments on Start of U.S.-Russia Nuclear Cooperation Agreement
2011-01-14 04:30:00
(WASHINGTON) ? U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on the formal inauguration of the U.S.-Russia nuclear cooperation agreement and announced that she will be introducing legislation to reform the Atomic Energy Act to ensure that countries of proliferation concern or those that are assisting the nuclear and missile programs of rogue regimes are not rewarded with nuclear cooperation agreements:?The U.S.-Russia nuclear cooperation agreement that went into effect this week never got a vote in Congress. The Atomic Energy Act must be reformed so that these far-reaching and potentially dangerous agreements are required to receive an up-or-down vote in Congress before going into effect.?Russia did not deserve such a concession from the U.S. given its ongoing support for Iran?s nuclear program. Even now Russia is preparing to bring the Bushehr nuclear plant on line. It continues to shield Iran from U.S. and int...

Most of the comments I made on a YouTube video which had been posted by a convinced Sai Baba devotee (username ‘godisone15) were selectively removed by him (or her), no doubt because they document the errors in his/her statements from Sathya Sai Baba’s own journal, which he always read and approved in those days (a ...

Comments: Building A Better-Balanced Blog?
2010-12-20 03:21:00
A commenter named "Performance Matters" sparked an interesting comment thread going on the last couple of days about the issue of why the blog comments are generally skewed against "reform" and against the central office, whether the blog is balanced or extreme, etc. The comment, in part:"Either you've driven the truly reform minded folks from reading blog entries by attacking all right-minded reforms coming out of CPS, ISBE, and other places just to get people riled up OR they read the blog entries and don't post because they'll get attacked by people who are only interested in protecting the status quo and their own jobs again and again and again."This issue has come up before, and there were several comments...

2010-12-19 14:00:00
From the office of Congressman-Elect Joe Walsh (8th District)... Today Rep.-elect Joe Walsh made the following statement regarding the Obama Administration's plans to import Guantanamo Bay terrorists to Illinois: "It is imperative that terrorists from Guantanamo Bay not be brought to Illinois. Such action would pose a grave national security threat and create unnecessary challenges in the war against Al Qaeda. As the only member from Illinois serving on the Committee on Homeland Security, I will make this one of my top priorities on the committee." "President Obama made a major mistake ordering the closure of Guantanamo as one of his first acts upon taking office. He compounded the problem even further when he made the decision to bring these...

Chancellor Merkel comments on industrial labour in Germany - But mistakes l
2010-10-20 22:33:00
What was astonishing about your statement is that the reason workers stayed for longer periods in Germany ? that they were allowed to stay - is because German industries found it too expensive to retrain new workers. It was more efficient to keep them here! But you?re right, there was never an expectation that they would stay forever ? not on the part of government, the public, or the workers themselves. Like you said, everyone hoped they would disappear.

I've lately started getting a lot of spam comments on my old posts, so I've been deleting them as they come in (Hint to spammers, don't bother writing a convincing looking comment for the context when your username is GenericViagra). But as the problem is getting worse by the week I have now changed my settings so that comments left after a post has been up for 14 days will have to be moderated. Hopefully this won't be too annoying for regular or legitimate commenters, and it will save me time and energy I could better spend, I dunno, pissing about.
A Guide to Political Blog Comments Posters
2010-08-22 20:00:00
-By Warner Todd Huston I want everyone to know that I love the comments posters on political blogs. OK, truth be known I love the ones that agree with me. The others, not so much. But I really can see the logic to those that say comments are the worst part of the Internet Tubes. 99% of the time the comments section add nothing but vitriol and pointless blather.... not to mention a dearth of grammar and spelling. While there's the occasional really detailed and good comment that does add to the thread, the good ones are far and few between. Heck, there've been many months when I've just shut down the comments section on my own blog due to...

White Sox foolish to renounce Ozzie Guillen's comments
2010-08-05 04:10:00
Ozzie Guillen has established himself as an incredible number of things in his 6 1/2 year tenure as the White Sox manager: a loose cannon, probably homophobic, staunchly loyal, and one of the biggest proponents of the hit-and-run of all time, among other things. One thing you'd think Ozzie would have established by now is that he isn't the Vice President of Communications of the Chicago White Sox. He's his own man, he speaks independently, and every challenging statement he makes doesn't require the panicky organizational refutation of his opinion that was offered Tuesday.

2010-06-07 07:47:00
Marvin Isley (August 18, 1953- June 6, 2010) was one of the members of the legendary and hall of fame family music group, The Isley Brothers  died tonight in Chicago and my heart is certainly heavy, and especially for his brother Ronald Isley who is returning to Chicago this week for a celebration concert and tour after his release from prison. Our prayers are with Ronald and the rest of the Isley Brothers family, preparing for a celebration concert on the one hand, and now faced with this untimely death on the other. During my early years, I was a music major, performing vocalist with local bands, and a DJ, having had the opportunity to work as a teen DJ...
Youtube Adds Hashtags To Comments And Makes It More Colourful!
2010-05-16 11:29:00
Youtube comments usually make no sense at all. Now, Youtube has come up with another way to make ‘ kids ‘ happy and annoy others. From now on, you will notice something like this in your comment box  : They have also enabled search for these comments. Check example here. If you are wondering how you can join the fun and flood the comments with colorful orange boxes with enclosed text. Here is how you can do it  : Whilst commenting, type #LOL / #FTW / #OMG / #FAIL and submit the comment. Youtube hasn’t made a blog post about this addition ( and maybe they won’t ..) but I am  calling this ‘ Youtube Hashtags ‘ . Why ? Well, if you see : Twitter hashtags are something like this – #text , right ?  But that is not the only reason. Just like twitter, you can search the hashtags now ( click-able hashtags leads to Youtube Comment search ) . Which in my opinion doesn’t make much sense . Hope Youtube doesn’t start its own trending topi...
