Haggling over broker’s commission does cut fees
2008-08-05 09:05:00 Consumer Reports says 71% of home sellers who asked their real estate broker to cut their commission got a lower fee. Less than half (46%) of the people surveyed for the Consumer Reports National Research Center’s annual questionnaire dared ask for a cut in their broker’s commission. Those who paid 3% or less said they were just as satisfied with their service as those who paid 6% or more. “If you’re looking for an agent, shop by personal recommendation or commission split,” said Amanda Walker, Consumer Reports senior project editor. Instead, he?s had to put a hold on those plans because he found over 5000 Social Security numbers in the computers? hard drives. If only those drives had full disk encryption on them; then, Sill would have just installed a new OS and be done with it. The Oklahoma Corporation Commission, the source of the computers, is not to blame for the data breach, though (or, perhaps, they deserver partial blame). It turns out that they don?t usually handle sensitive information, so they left the hard drives behind in the computers for the auction. So where did the SSNs come from? Apparently, the computers were used by the Oklahoma Tax Commission before being transferred to the Corporation Commission. The development of the next phase of Hidden Lake Subdivision was far and away the hottest topic of the day. This development was originally brought to the Planning Commission in October, 2006, and was approved. Plans presented at that time included much green space, walking trails, and several small parks on the 167 acre site. The development never started because this was around the time the new construction market in Dothan softened. Fast forward 18 months, and although the new home market is still soft, it is relatively steady. The European Commission says no to reviewing biofuel percentage goal
2008-04-15 22:42:00 As you might know, the EU has plans to make a 10 percent blend of biofuels mandatory in 2020. However, not everybody agrees that it's a good measure. In fact, lots of voices have been raised in warning about using biofuels to reduce our dependence on oil. Nevertheless, the European Commission said on Monday that there is no intention to review such the 10 percent target. Barbara Helfferich, European Commissioner for Environmental Affairs, stated that even though the EC knows that biofuels are associated with "problems," the EC is developing legislation to guarantee their sustainability. Moreover, the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Environment said that Europe expects to assign 17 percent of available farmland for biofuels to reach the 10 percent goal. These acres wouldn't affect food production, he said.
