Good Primary Day for Conservatives
2008-06-05 01:37:00
No. Not in New Jersey. But in California and New Mexico, the establishment hand-picked candidates lost to the more principled, conservative candidate. The NJGOP should try that sometime. First in California: An open seat is available with the news that Congressman John Doolittle will be retiring at the end of this term, (linked to the Abramoff ...
Primary Day-After
2008-06-04 15:46:00
It’s finally over. Thank God. The primary season in New Jersey has finally ended, and while the nominees are now known, I think there are more questions today then answers. In the US Senate race, the establishment candidate Anne Esatbrook Andy Unanue John Crowley Dick Zimmer defeated Joe Pennacchio and Murray Sabrin. A race that can only ...
Bernadette McGlade named Atlantic 10 commissioner
2008-06-03 17:55:00
Former ACC associate commissioner Bernadette McGlade has been named commissioner of the Atlantic 10 conference. McGlade's background in women's basketball should help in promoting women's programs like the D.C. area's George Washington as well as rivals Temple and St. Joseph's.More important for the Atlantic 10 fandom though may be McGlade's working knowledge of the sports television industry. The conference is still laboring under a restrictive deal signed with the former CSTV. The arrangement has blocked most local broadcasts of A-10 games on systems that don't carry CSTV (now known as CBS College Sports), a large majority of the northeastern and mid-Atlantic United States. ----Specifically to the D.C. area, the poor television contract has blocked George Washington Colonials from negotiating significant regional carriage deals with Comcast SportsNet (Mid-Atlantic) or with MASN, allowing Maryland, Georgetown and George Mason to dominate local coverage unchallenged. The new A...

GOP 3rd Congressional District: Vote Jack Kelly For Congress
2008-06-01 15:33:00
I’ve previously stated that I have paid more attention to the US Senate and 7th Congressional District race then I have to the 3rd Congressional District. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been following the press releases and what has been going on in the race. I have also received a few emails from voters asking ...

Let 13 year-olds have sex, says Children's Commissioner
2008-05-16 20:28:00
Monday, 12 May 2008, The Christian Institute, says,"The Children's Commissioner in Scotland, Kathleen Marshall, has faced criticism for backing Scottish Law Commission proposals to legalise sex between 13 to 15 year olds.Responding to a Government consultation on sexual offences, the Commissioner argued that while children ought to be protected from the sexual advances of adults, sexual activity between 'consenting' 13 to 15 year-olds should not be illegal."It is right to recognise the general vulnerability of 13 to 16-year-olds by maintaining the general prohibition on sexual activity, backed by the weight of the law," she said. "But I also welcome proposals to take a different approach to consensual activity between young people."Christian groups and other campaigners have criticised the proposals. Rape Crisis Scotland says it is "concerned that the proposed changes might potentially reduce the extent to which young people are protected and limit options for prosecutors".The ag...
UK's Information Commissioner gets expanded powers in Criminal Justice and
2008-05-15 02:00:00
The United Kingdom's Information Commissioner's Office received new authority to levy fines on organizations that "deliberately" or "recklessly" violate the U.K.'s "Data Protection Act", or DPA, of 1998. In a little noticed amendment to the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act of 2008, the 1998 DPA was updated to enable the Information Commissioner to impose serious fines on organizations. This change in the UK's data protection law was spurred by a string of high-profile breaches of personally-identifiable information in the U.K. over the last year, including the large-scale data breach at Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs agency...

TDSAT appoints commissioner to inspect compliance of its order
2008-04-30 06:09:00
Broadcast tribunal TDSAT on Tuesday appointed a local commissioner to inspect compliance of its order directing three Mumbai-based channel distributors to restore signals of Indusind Media and Communications Ltd. The move follows TDSAT's directions over a contempt application moved by the Multi System Operator (MSO) Indusind Media against its former distributors. In its contempt application, Indusind Media has contended that despite the order of the Telecom Disp utes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) on April 24 its signals were being not restored back to the local cable operators and area cable operators. However, the distributors - In Cable Communication, Sai Ganesh Enterprise and Satekrishmani Network - objected to Indusind Media's contention by saying that as per the tribunal's order they had already restored Indusind's feed.To verify the contradictory claims by both sides, Justice Mr Arun Kumar, Chairman of TDSAT appointed Mr Meet Malhotra as the local commissioner a...

Dick Zimmer is NO Conservative; Social or Fiscal
2008-04-19 02:41:00
Contrary to his self-boasting of being a “fiscal conservative”, and even in deference to his being hailed a “taxpayer superhero” by Citizens Against Government Waste, his overall record in the 6 years he served in Congress tells a completely different story and reveals Dick Zimmer to be both a Social and Fiscal Moderate. I have spend ...

The Dollars for Democrats Continues
2008-04-14 20:37:00
I have been a Republican all my life, and a registered one since I was 18 in 1983. My first vote was in 1984 for the reelection of Ronald Reagan. In all that time, I have never, ever donated a cent to a Democrat. So, it’s hard to comprehend how Republicans, especially those who are running ...

2008-04-02 22:45:00
Without recording capabilities on my cell phone, I was forced to actually write notes by hand. I seriously can’t remember the last time I wrote so much; my chicken scratch has gotten worse over the years, that’s for sure. This will look a little informal for an interview, but seeing as most of the other attendees were recording and will likely put out a transcript, I thought I’d change it up a bit! Story time!I joined the conference promptly at 11:00 AM PST and some of the others had already joined. Commissioner For Life?
2008-01-18 16:47:00
Well, I don't know if this is good or bad news for fans, but I guess it is for the owners. On Thursday, MLB team owners unanimously awarded commissioner Bud Selig a three-year contract extension through 2012. Confident that Major League Baseball has turned the page on the steroid era and that the game will continue to prosper, owners voted unanimously yesterday to extend commissioner Bud Selig's contract through the 2012 season. The 73-year-old Selig had been scheduled to retire after the 2009 season.more stories like thisSelig, who had talked openly about retiring, has received high marks from ownership during his 16-year tenure, which has included the implementation of interleague play and a wild-card playoff format. The game has also realized huge revenues, and the value of franchises has risen dramatically. But Selig also has been criticized for a slow response to the growing use of steroids, amphetamines, and human growth hormone during his tenure, though in the past three ye...
