Does the name Leah mean passion and common sense?
2009-08-10 11:00:00
This isn’t the only Leah to whom left-wing bloggers, liberal pundits, Democratic Senators, the Speaker of the House and the President of the United Statesshould be listening. Maybe it’s her name that causes her to say this so well, so succinctly and so passionately? (H/t Instsapundit)
Common sense on high-speed rail
2009-07-28 00:12:00
John McCarron, an urban affairs writer, consultant and educator, nails it in this Tribune op-ed column. McCarron asks why we are spending billions of dollars (yet to be borrowed, I assume) on studying and building high-speed rail service when so much more needs to be done for local mass transit. Compare the needs of CTA, Metra and Pace riders with those who want to get to Detroit, St. Louis, the Twin Cities and elsewhere and there's no doubt where the money should be spent. As McCarron said:The purpose of high-speed rail, near as I can tell, is not to ease the daily commute of millions of Chicagoans -- we'll still clank along on what is, in many places, a century-old...

J.D. Needs A "Stimulus" Of Common Sense
2009-06-01 22:19:00
(I know I?ve used this pic a lot lately, but it always seems to fit ? and I also posted over here.)I realize I?ve spent a good while now trying to ascertain tiny, fragile segments of reason and common sense lurking into the jingoistic, right-wing drivel of Bucks County Courier Times columnist J.D. Mullane, but I feel that I must continue in this exercise because I find it harder to locate those segments with each passing day.And based on what he concocted yesterday, I should tell you that I seriously believe he has gone ?around the bend? (here) in yet another round of criticizing the economic stimulus plan (with stimulus in quotes, as always)? So how much of President Obama?s ?stimulus? cash will come to Bucks County, and how will it be spent? It?s $156 million ? including the generous $400 ?individual tax credit? most of us receive in $8 increments each paycheck. There are a few dozen public works projects, including $100,000 to refurbish of (sic) the Sellersville Armory. So if Selle...

Let common sense prevail in all your dealings
2009-03-17 12:33:00
An Obituary (The London Times).Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knew for sure how old he was, because records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He?ll be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: The early bird gets the worm; Hard work is the secret to success, Life isn't always fair; and Sorry that was my fault.Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies like don't spend more than you earn and Save part of your income for the future plus reliable life strategies like Adults are in charge not children and When there?s a problem, look for a solution don?t look for someone to blame. His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprima...

Windmills split upstate NY town and families LOWVILLE, N.Y. - “Listen,” John Yancey says, leaning against his truck in a field outside his home. "Drilling" For Common Sense On Energy In Bucks
2008-08-12 20:55:00
I haven?t had much to say about Bucks County Courier Times columnist J.D. Mullane for some time because he?s largely confined his wingnuttery to his blog, which is something I don?t care to discuss at this moment because I?m eating my lunch. However, in his column today, he takes note of Patrick Murphy?s appearance at the Lower Makefield, PA Farmer?s Market last Thursday, in which Patrick judged the ?Great Zucchini Race??Just before the zucchinis zoomed down a 12-foot plywood track, a half-dozen protesters closed in on Murphy, holding signs that criticized him and his Democratic Party on oil, drilling and energy.Murphy, with his 150-watt smile, largely ignored them. Afterward, glancing at the sign-holders, he said with a shrug, ?That's politics.?And by the way, it should be noted that, since they disagreed with the Democrats, these were ?good? protestors as far as J.D. is concerned, not ?hippies? opposing the Iraq war who should be tear gassed, as Mullane called for here. And where e...

Some common sense from the Supreme Court
2008-04-29 01:50:00
The Supreme Court ruled today that states can require voters to produce photo identification without violating their constitutional rights, validating Republican-inspired voter ID laws. Its backers ...
Why Price, Volume and Common Sense Matter Now
2008-04-25 18:02:00
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. Guest Post:Deepak Singh Market Analyst, State of the Market "How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg? Four! Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg."....Abraham Lincoln We see and hear this too often in markets. There are millions of technical indicators that have been developed to call a tail a leg. I am not painting all technical indicators with the same brush but most of them are no good. It only leads to poor trading experience and results. After going through number of indicators, I reached a conclusion - it is much better to stick to Price, Volume and Common Sense (the most difficult indicator). There is saying - "Price and Volume are fact, and everything else is a distorted version of the two". The market requires you to be much more objective most of the times even if that means a long wait. It pays to wait for clear signals than interpret confusing signals. The moment we start looking at te...
Getting BackLinks to your Blog/Site, The Un-Common Sense..
2008-04-23 11:20:00
Today I was talking to someone who said, ?I spent 14 hours yesterday submitting my website address to directories and search engines??And I thought, ?well, that?s one way to get links.?But if you?re going to spend THAT much time, why not think outside the box?For Example:You could make Wordpress or Blogger templates and give them away free as long as they leave your link intact.Or, if you?ve got a few articles, pull together a quick AdSense site with them plus a few other articles, give it away or sell it really cheap (try the Warrior Special Offer forum for a ready-made market) with your links embedded. I would personally give it away free, with the only stipulation being that if they wanted to be notified of the next free Adsense site I gave away, they?d have to send me the URL where they posted this one.Lets see, what else do people want? how about a free script or two for their website as long as your link remains.Or, a cool widget that can do something they might like? like mak...

Common sense
2008-04-22 23:57:00
This week's Mr. Teacher column on education.com is all about the trials and tribulations of getting kids to check the reasoning on their math answers. No, 11-5 should NOT equal 14! Nor should it equal 115!!!I started a Participation Posse today. Took pics of the kids last week, and I devoted a bulletin board to the pictures of the kids who participated in class. Most of them got their pictures up yesterday. Of the few who weren't up when they walked into my classroom this morning, almost all of them really did try harder today and got their picture up. I did have to take one down though, as he wasn't trying at all today. We'll see how it goes for the next few weeks. I think I'll have little rewards or something for the people whose pictures stay up all week long. If it goes well, I may start this at the beginning of next year. Common Sense with Car Insurance Posted By : J Tillotson

The higher your claim, the harder the insurer will work to find some reason not to pay out. Some of the steps you can take to avoid this issue are just a matter of diligence and common sense. Common Sense with Car Insurance
2008-04-04 03:56:00
We've all heard the horror stories of people trying to claim on their motor insurance, only to have their claim refused due to a technicality, or some detail that has been forgotten. The higher your claim, the harder the insurer will work to find some reason not to pay out. Some of the steps you can take to avoid this issue are just a matter of diligence and common sense.Always wear your seatbelt. If you are injured in an accident and it's found out that you weren't belted up, the insurer will throw out your claim straight away. You can also incur heavy fines if you are caught without your belt. Likewise if you are found to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. As well as the legal ramifications, drink driving renders your insurance claim invalid as you could be seen to have caused the accident. The same goes for speeding and other types of dangerous driving. All will make you more of a liability on the road, and more likely to be in an ac...

Confusion reigns supreme when one talks about reverse mortgages. So much has been written about this program that myth melds into fact and fact conflates myth. Plan to block porn sites based on common sense, minister
2008-04-01 03:39:00
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government`s plan to block porn and violence websites is based on common sense, Communications and Information Minister Mohammad Nuh said."Nobody has reason to build a nation by disseminating pornography and violence. I think nobody will agree to such notion," he said in a press conference here on Tuesday. 15 Common Sense Rules
2008-03-30 05:19:00
Common sense can be brutally honest sometimes. As traders we get so focused on the little inconsequential details sometimes that we miss the world around us. I have had this discussion with too many people over the last two months that told me they were bearish on the market and were taking a beating on the "high probability" that the market would reverse. Who sets those odds by the way? Are trends more likely to reverse than persist? If so, why the hell are we studying technical analysis?Take a look over these trading rules I stumbled across last year and see if there are any realities that surface from them. Each time I look these over it reminds me of the realities of what we do here.1. No matter what you read about trading, until you use an approach and test it with your money on the line you will never learn how to trade. Paper Trading is NOT Trading!2. If it were really possible to "Buy Low Sell High" or "Cut your Losses and Let your Winners Run",...
