Scholes, who had an excellent game, floated a long ball to Wayne Rooney who delivered a quality ball into the penalty area for and it was an easy finish for Valencia. Second half and three immediate substitutions were made by Sir Alex Ferguson. Hernandez, Berbatov and Luis Nani were all brought on for Michael Owen, Rooney and Ji-Sung Park. Scholes had a brilliant game, he was picking out some inch perfect passes, Valencia was given a lot of space down the right and was also impressive. Community Shield:Fergie expects fireworks
2007-08-05 16:02:00 Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson expects a fiery encounter when his champions meet Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley. There is no love lost between the two sides after having battled each other tooth and nail for English football's top two prizes last season. And with United having outdone FA Cup winners Chelsea in the transfer market over the summer, there is already plenty to prove in the new season's traditional curtain raiser. Ferguson is sure Sunday's match will prove to be a far more enjoyable spectacle than last season's FA Cup final, which was memorable only for how poor it was."It will be a competitive game, you can't avoid that," Ferguson said."Players, particularly against teams they'll be competing against for top honours, are going to be competitive."It will be a better game than the FA Cup final as there was possibly tiredness from both teams."There can be no such excuses this time round, despite a busy pre-season for both clubs, during which Un...

Community Shield - Liverpool vs Chelsea
2006-08-14 19:15:03 We’re about a half hour from kick off and while I’d love to be able to provide live updates on the game through the blog I’ll be out and about in the local to catch the game. As it stands, the confirmed team is as follows: Pepe Reina, Steve Finnan, Jamie Carragher, Danny Agger, John Arne Riise, Jermaine Pennant, Momo Sissoko, Bolo Zenden, Mark Gonzalez, Luis Garcia, Peter Crouch. A relatively tried and tested lineup for Liverpool but the game still undoubtedly has a “friendly feel” to it as Frank Lampard put it during the week. Should be a fantastic game ahead. No doubt as well there’ll be a strong lineup from Chelsea with Shevchenko and Ballack out to make their mark in their first competitive game for the Blues. Joe Cole misses out, as does Petr Cech and William Gallas whose Chelsea future still hangs in the balance. Its been a war of mindgames during the week and in the build up to the game between Mourinho and Benitez who know each other insid...
