Five for the Future: Roadmap for Competitiveness in the 21st Century
2008-03-15 05:02:00
Five for the Future is a Call to Action. In this hyper-competitive, rapidly changing environment, it is only prudent to glance in the rear view mirror from time to time. But America needs more than rear view mirror policies. The United States needs a roadmap for success in the global economy—one that charts a strategic direction between complacency and panic. And...
Cape Verde's competitiveness 'to be increased'
2008-02-27 01:00:00
Cape Verde's competitiveness could be in for a boost following the launch of a new scheme, which may interest those considering overseas property investment in the country.Macauhub reports that the United Nations Industrial Development Program has established the Quality for West Africa programme in order to integrate Cape Verde into the world economy. Those considering an investment in the country may be aware that it joined the World Trade Organisation recently. The BBC also indicates that the nation's tourism continues to grow.Jose Brito, Cape Verde's minister for the economy, growth and competition, said: "There is a tendency these days, to standardise products in terms of quality and for Cape Verde to win that battle of competitiveness and be able to export, we have to meet those standards."Lonely Planet describes Cape Verde as having "pleasant" weather throughout the year, which may prove to be an attraction for people looking to invest in property outside of the UK.
What do you think about competitiveness?

When I tried to push Clay a couple days ago, it didn't mean that he was not clever enough at school. Although his age is younger than most of his classmates (he is 7 years old now, 2nd grade) I must say that he is good and smart enough. He even got this card (and gift as a reward) from his English teacher: Clay is doing great at school. He is talented in English, Mandarin, Science, Math and Bible study. He never has to work hard but he can get good score. Though this is such a blessing, I think Clay has to learn how to work hard. I don't want him underestimate something and not give all his best in doing something. Here's my point of view about parenting... Actually my hubby and me doesn't like to compare our kids. We put Clay in his recent school because of this reason as well. In this school (Bintang Mulia), there is no ranking on his semester report. I feel awful when our relatives and their grandparents compare my children to their cousins. Sometimes, I feel 'challenged' ...

HRM: Increase your Company's Competitiveness
2008-01-16 00:34:00
In today?s intensely competitive and global marketplace, maintaining a competitive advantage by becoming a low cost leader or a differentiator puts a heavy premium on having a highly committed or competent workforce. Competitive advantage lies not just in differentiating a product or service or in becoming the low cost leader but in also being able to tap the company?s special skills or core competencies and rapidly respond to customer?s needs and competitor?s moves. In other words competitive advantage lies in management?s ability to consolidate corporate-wide technologies and production skills into competencies that empower individual businesses to adapt quickly to changing opportunities. In a growing number of organizations human resources are now viewed as a source of competitive advantage. There is greater recognition that distinctive competencies are obtained through highly developed employee skills, distinctive organizational cultures, management processes and systems. This is...

The Global Competitiveness Report - L'Italia è 46°!
2007-11-28 19:45:00

China Competitiveness: Yeah, Yeah, Rah, Rah, We're Number 34
2007-11-17 08:17:00
The World Economic Forum recently came out with its Global Competitiveness Report and the United States came in first place, with China in 34th. Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Finland, Singapore, Japan, United Kingdom, and the Netherlands rounded out the top ten. South Korea was 11th, Hong Kong 12th, Taiwan 14th, Malaysia 21st, Thailand 28th, Indonesia 54th, Russia 58th, Vietnam 68th, Philippines 71st, Mongolia 101st, and Cambodia was 110th. Chad was dead last at 131st. In addition to its Global Competitiveness Report, the Forum also did a Business Competitiveness Report, with very similar rankings. These reports are interesting because they not only include hard data, they also the results of an Executive Opinion Survey carried out by the World Economic Forum, which, according to the Forum, "captures the perceptions of several thousand business leaders across the countries covered on topics related to national competitiveness." Check it out.
World Competitiveness: US #1, China #34
2007-11-01 06:44:00
The World Economic Forum just came out with its world competitiveness rankings , putting the United States in first place, with Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Finland, Singapore, Japan, the UK, and The Netherlands rounding out the top ten. Korea (South, of course) was 11th, Hong Kong 12th, Taiwan 13th, Malaysia 21st, Thailand 28th, China 34th, Russia 58th, and Vietnam 68th. Chad came in last at 131st. The irrepressible Chinese press notes China has moved up from 54th last year. It appears one has to purchase the report to get much information on how the rankings were determined since I generally view such rankings as having little use beyond blogs and party conversation, I ain't buying. The Intangible Economy blog and Foreign Policy Magazine have nice pieces on the rankings for those seeking more information.

In some of my past articles, I have talked about most popular keywords, writing content, SEO optimization, social networking, all ways to get your site on your way to the top in a methodical fashion. Unfortunately, you will find certain website industries are usually non-starters, or tough to get to high traffic sites.SEO Challenged:The first one is what I would like to call being SEO challenged. If you have read some of my previous articles you will see the importance I put on SEO(search engine optimization) and writing lots of unique content. For most websites this is more important for gaining traffic than any other factor. Unfortunately, there are some website topics/industries that are real tough using this process, to get to your way to a high traffic site. There can be one or two reasons why this may happen:Pagerank: There are some website topics where you will be competing with many news or ?official? sites in the search engines. These sites will all have high PR and have aut...

The threat of looming ?external? competition has dissipated and the ghost of the Chinese wave hurtling through our industry no longer strikes the fear it did 10 year ago. The private sector is getting comfortable centre-stage, following 16 years of liberalisation. Growth is now led by the private sector operating ...
