Spaces for Ideas: The Beginning
2009-12-17 18:29:00 After using my Moleskine for almost a year, I realized what I thought was the world's best sketchbook was not even close. The cover often bends out of shape, the spine makes my pages shift like a deck of cards, and it contains pages so incredibly thin that pretty much everything goes through it. While no sketchbook is perfect, I believe my fairly harsh critique was influenced by price and marketing/branding of a Moleskine. In other words, I expected something better considering how much I paid for it! This got me thinking: ?Yes, while no sketchbook is perfect, just what did I not like about the Moleskine or even sketchbooks in general?? I thought about all the problems I had with sketchbooks, and after that made a list of key points of what I thought my dream sketchbook would be like. And like a typical designer, I knew from that moment I could design one that was better. I hope!

2009-03-30 19:21:00 This weekend, at the Seoul Motor Show, Kia will unveil their latest vehicle, the KND-5 Concept, which previews the Korean company’s upcoming luxury sedan, so far only known with the codename “VG”. The car will be a direct competitor to near-luxury sedans such as the VW Passat CC and will share its FWD platform with the next generation Hyundai Azera (will debut in Korea in September). According to Kia World, the concept will measure 4945 mm in length, 1850 mm in width and 1475 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2845 mm. Other than that, the KND-5 concept features headlamps and taillights with LED technology, 20 inch wheels and a huge panoramic glass roof. New Concept Car: Ssangyong C200
2009-03-17 15:25:00 Ssangyong is to show a near production-ready version of its upcoming C200 crossover at next month's Seoul motor show.The C200 will be the first of a new generation of Ssangyong vehicles to use a monocoque body and is likely to form the basis for future models.The Giugiaro designed C200 is similar in size to the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV, but Ssangyong hopes it will provide a more affordable alternative in the burgeoning crossover sector. Power for the show car comes from a 173bhp 2.0-litre diesel unit that is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. A manual option is likely to be made available when the car is launched.The company will also unveil a new diesel hybrid version of the Kyron at the show. Infinity Moving Forward with Diesel-Hybrid Essence Concept

Others have also been researched but many of them, for the most part, have remained out of the spotlight. One such example is the diesel hybrid drivetrain. While some have discussed its feasibility, most pass right over it and move to something else. Walkaround - Infiniti Essence Concept
2009-03-04 09:50:00 The Infiniti Essence concept was introduced at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show this week. It's officially only a concept at this point in time, although it does appear to be based on a production intent. You'll note the usual concept car features: the all-glass roof/windshield combination, the oversize-tires, etc., that won't make it into production. Get past those and you have a car based on the GT-R platform, although with a low-boost twin-turbo 3.7 liter engine (not the 3.8 from the GT-R) and an electric hybrid assist system. These contribute 440 HP and 160 HP respectively, for a total of 600. The production version will probably have a hundred HP less, and go for well over $100K. It's also dependent on the Nissan/Infiniti hybrid system reaching production (a prototype was shown in a G35 last year), which won't be until 2012 at least. And of course on the worldwide economy, which certainly doesn't favor the development or sale of $100k products at the moment.
