Friday Flash..Traditional Confectionery
2008-08-08 02:23:00 Jelly like sweets in the shape of watermelon slices.Small wafer like biscuits shaped like fans.The toothpick serves as the handle.The wafers are stuck together with a small molasses like filling.A summer stalwart.Basically its just a pile of shaved ice over which you pour your favourite flavour or topping.Very refreshing,particularly when its half melted and slushy.The offering in the photo above is adorned with a strawberry topping.

Friday Flash..Spring Confectionery
2008-03-28 00:56:00 A selection of confectionery Ive recently seen in the shops.Each season sees a new range of products often only available for a limited time.The new offering from Haagen Dazs features cassis which I believe is blackcurrant and orange.An interesting mix of tastesA mini pack that features some pale yellow coloured caramel flavoured KitKats.Quite sweet and sticky. The KitKats above come in a box that contains a double pack of English tea flavoured wafers coated in dark brown chocolate.I found the tea flavour quite mild.The final shot above shows the most recent KitKat flavour Ive seen recently.Again the hazelnut kitkats come in a small rectangular box containing four sticks in two packs.The hazelnut filling in the wafers was quite thick compared to other flavours and a rich "peanuty" smell and taste.

2007-10-22 20:33:00 Yesterday being such a fabulous day, we decided to hop into the convertible, top down, and drive up to Lake Geneva in Wisconsin.Apart from the beautiful lake which I'll blog about later, we discovered a cute and extremely busy little confectionery shop on the main street called Kilwins. Decorated in a style evocative of the 1940s, the brand was actually founded in North Michigan by a couple during the late 1940s.Their selection of home-style fudge is overwhelming: dark german, maple walnut, chocolate pecan to name but a few. Beautifully wrapped chocolate gift boxes adorn one of the walls. Raspberry creams, cherry cordials, almond toffee crunch...the list goes on. Then there's the ice-cream corner. Rum-raisin, Lake Geneva mud, pumpkin seem to be some of the most requested flavors while we were there. It was very busy indeed.A pound of fudge costs about $13 but is totally worth it. Confectionery group Cadbury Schweppes to cut 7,500 jobs and close 10 factor
2007-06-20 11:15:00 Cadbury Schweppes is to axe up to 7,500 jobs and close 10 factories around the globe in a cost reduction programme over the next four years. The UK confectionery group said it will cut its current confectionery workforce of 50,000 and 70 factories by 15% between 2008 and 2011, in an effort which is expected to result in savings of about £300m. The group is currently in the process of offloading its US soft drinks division, according to chief executive Todd Stitzer. On completion of a sale, the business will be renamed Cadbury. Cadbury Schweppes refused to say whether any the UK plants would be affected. A spokeswoman told Personnel Today: ?We cannot provide any further details until we have discussed the plans with our staff and union representatives.?
