David Lereah Visits The Housing Bust Confessional
2008-05-08 00:50:00 It?s Going to Get Worse Newsweek Web Exclusive - snips:Economist David Lereah (of the NAR) was once the housing market's biggest cheerleader. Now he says the bust isn't near over, and home prices still have a long way to fall... "We're not at the bottom," he says. "[People] want it to be near the bottom, but we're not there yet. The leading indicators are still very bad. Pending home sales are still in bad shape. Mortgage applications are low ? There's still supply out there in abundance ? This thing is going to get worse before it gets better." Lereah says that the industry may begin to see a slight uptick in sales later this summer, which could signal the start of the recovery. Home prices, however, will continue to fall... That's quite a turnabout from the view he articulated in his book, first published in 2005... "You knew there were a couple of [regional] balloons out there, and [I] said you could have a couple of these balloons pop," Lereah says now. "But I didn't thin...
Confessional / Oh. How I Hate Meetings
2008-05-04 21:55:00 photo credit: Andrew Feinberg I detest meetings. I hate them. I despise them. With every fiber of my being. I know, I know, sometimes they’re necessary. 2008-04-03 02:08:00 part one of… ? New York Governor David Paterson has the kind of political acuity worth watching… and unfortunately, probably worth emulating from now on. He coolly observed his predecessor go down in flames and silicone. He stepped politely over the writhing corpse, ascended into office and promptly did what Mrs. E has been privately hoping for years a political figure would do: called a press conference, looked the American media in its bloodshot, Internet-porn-raddled eyes and said, in essence: “All right, bitches, let’s GO there,” spilling a load of personal compost over the next few days that, while not spectacular in scope, was refreshingly honest in a somewhat revolting way. Best of all, his wife did more than (here it comes) stand by her man; she added her own soiled knickers to the flurry of smudged tidy whities Dave was launching at the dazed citizens of New York. Damn. In a grave near Nashville, Tammy Wynette’s carefully embalmed nipp...

Dashboard Confessional - Dusk and Summer [2006]
2008-01-16 02:35:00 Review by Amanda Richards “Modest to the extreme” If you like music by groups like Keane, Coldplay and Hoobastank, and pop/rock ballads send you into seventh heaven, you’ll love this Dashboard Confessional album. For the record, Dashboard Confessional isn’t really a group, but a singer-songwriter with the cool porn-star-sounding name of Chris Carrabba, backed by three ...
Confessional My Ass
2007-12-29 05:46:00 Sorry, that last confession was lame. What I really meant to confess was that last night I drank too much wine, watched way too many movies, and fell asleep on the couch with all three kids. CG was responsible and shit and went to bed early. At 3 AM I rolled over on said couch and found Li'l Man asleep on the floor--no pillow, no blanket, and God knows how much dog dander he was inhaling, sleeping face down on the carpet. I haven't vacuumed in days. The dogs are shedding so much I could knit sweaters--that is if I knew how to knit . I left him there in my sleep-induced haze and yanked the couch throw tighter around my neck. What? What!! It's good for a five year old to sleep on the hard, cold floor during the holidays, isn't it? It breeds discipline, right?! It gets better! I awoke to kids playing Wii around me. I creaked off the couch since I am still sore from skiing all day on Wednesday. I scurried to the bathroom and snagged a luscious peppermint chocolate chip cookie along ...
Confessional of a Very Remiss Blogger
2007-12-28 19:54:00 Hi! My name is Scout's Honor and it's been over two months since my last confession blog post. I've been sulking. I admit it. I have sinned. I have taken the lord's name in vain. A lot!I ended up losing my hard drive (physical failure--no recovery possible) and the entire last year of digital pics. I even lost all my feeds, so I've been reading blogs very sporadically. Luckily, CG quickly rebuilt my computer, but it seemed so overwhelming to start over. So, people, twice is a charm. I am finally using this bitchin' back up service that mirrors my hard drive somewhat like Google Desktop. For $60 a year, it backs up all files, music, email, pics, and docs to the web with bank quality super-encryption. It's called Carbonite and it rocks. If anyone is interested, I'll send you a link for a free three month subscription. If you sign up, I get 3 months added to my subscription. And people, after my hard drive woes, I need every month of back-up I can get. Seriously, it's great ...

2007-12-20 20:48:00 Catholics everywhere are familiar with the confessional. About the size of a phone booth, confessionals are provided to parishioners so that they may reveal their sins and be absolved through penance ? advice from the priest, a few prayers, and maybe some community service later and BAM! sin-free, once again. read more

Dear Demon Barber Confessional
2007-12-07 17:09:00 visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site When I first heard months ago that they were remaking Sweeney Todd I was excited. Once I found out that it was being done by Tim Burton, I was in awe. I can't wait for this movie to be released. For those of you who don't know the history of this movie, it was first released in theaters in 1936. Yes, you read that right. However, that was not the first appearance of Sweeney Todd. There were stories written about him in the late 1800s. There are some arguments as to whether or not Sweeney Todd actually existed. In the late 70s and early 80s, Sweeney Todd was released as a musical starring Angela Lansbury. First off, the movie stars Johnny Depp. Can we say yummy? He is a great actor and really gets into character. I can't wait to see him as the great Demon Barber himself! Then we have Mrs. Lovett being portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter. She is a pretty good actress. I just keep picturing her as Bellatrix Lestrange ...

Sweeny Todd Confessional
2007-12-03 00:35:00 I am so excited for this movie to come out. Tim Burton always has a way with his movies. Granted, Johnny Depp has been a star in quite a few, but that is not what I base my statement on. Well, not completely anyway. His movies are always so eerie. And when I say eerie, I don't mean scary. I don't have to piddle the movie theater chair because something popped out at me or an alien walked into the background of a birthday party. Tim Burton's movies are just plain eerie. If you haven't seen one of the awesome trailers for this movie visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site or visit Sweeny Todd on MySpace and take a look.If you know the story of Sweeny Todd, than you know that revenge is a key element in this story. Who among us doesn't have a story or two to tell about revenge? I know I sure do. Some of things I have done I regret. Other things I simply laugh at. A few of my acts revenge are still fresh in my mind as being appropriate. Not that I would admit a lot of these thin...

Of Thanksgivings Past + A Turkey Confessional
2007-11-22 18:54:00 Yes, finally! Some new material to write & the time to post it, thanks to today's holiday, Thanksgiving. What will this post be about? Why Thanksgiving Day food, but of course! So, I was supposed to travel yesterday evening to be with family for Thanksgiving.Well, that didn't happen: my main squeeze, Erik, has been bed-ridden with the flu over the past few days (he was feeling very weak & dizzy), so I stuck around to take care of him. While I'll miss hanging out with my family & enjoying my aunt's Thanksgiving Day feast, there's a part of me that's also rather relieved that we won't be travelling on the road during one of the most traffic-filled & accident-prone times of the year! And of course, since I'd been expecting to eat Thanksgiving with my family, I had nothing prepared for today's holiday meal. So that means no turkey this year. Boo hoo. That was sarcasm, people. ;-) I'll confess that, while I'll occasionally eat sliced turkey as a healthy alternat...

2007-11-03 23:27:00 I am sorry to have been out of touch this week guys, but the reason is a good one. I have been writing songs! While I apologize for my absence from the board, I have to let you know that I MUST drop all other hobbies and responsibilities to chase these creative moments. I know you understand. So, a quick recap. Since we last spoke I have visited Kansas City, St. Cloud MN. Chicago, Toronto, and last night in Pontiac Michigan.Kansas was great. I had a nice conversation with a girl named Kate who brought me something nice, I visited with some friends who used the show as a birthday party (fun idea) and I jumped on stage with John Ralston during his set and I think I scarred the life out of Dustin.Read the full blog entry here

Spears' Confessional Controversy: Blackout Album offends the Church
2007-10-31 14:51:00 Now Britney, who was once famous for citing her religious beliefs as a reason to save her virginity until marriage, has caused outrage within the Catholic community after posing for racy photos for the "artwork" on her latest album. I use the term "artwork" loosely - anything that delivers a shocking message with no purpose or meaning lacks art to me.

Dashboard Confessional - Portland
2007-10-22 21:43:00 This was the type of show that this tour was designed for. A tiny room set up like the good old VFW halls that we came up playing in (once we'd graduated from the basements). It is the kind of room that causes you to sweat before you have played the first note (this is a thing that I like by the way). I am still a hair under the weather even as I write this. I think I have a couple more days before I can stop needing to rely on the crowd to kick in my adrenaline. Last night I needed that from the crowd. They delivered in spades. I was even adding in songs I hadn't planned to play because I didn't want to let go of the audience.Read the complete blog here

Dashboard Confessional - San Francisco
2007-10-21 04:46:00 Last night we played at the historic Warfield Theatre in San Francisco. The show was fabulous. I had been getting a lot of emails on our site and our Myspace since the show was announced. I should have known that it was going to be a special show. The problem is that I am fighting off a sore throat (more from singing than from germs, at least that is what I am telling myself!), so all that was on my mind throughout the day was how I have to sing three shows in a row on a sore throat! I'd never stopped to think about all the excitement I had been expecting out of San Fran since we told them we were coming. All I can tell you is that San Francisco is the best medicine.Read the complete blog here

Dashboard Confessional - I've Found Serenity!
2007-10-17 01:03:00 I am watching "Serenity" for the umpteenth time and I have to tell you that this is the most under rated bit of science fiction ever made. It's the movie follow up to the short-lived Joss Whedon television series "Firefly". "Serenity", which takes it's title from the name of the Firefly class ship the crew travel in, is the kind of movie that adults that loved the original star wars trilogy as kids had hoped the prequels would be. This is mainly because every bit of the film is like a western in outer space. All the characters seem to be kin of Han Solo. All the women are tough (even Kaley). All the terrain is treacherous. All the dialogue is Whedonesque. All the bad guys are actually bad (not silly robots).Read the complete blog here.

Dashboard Confessional - Tempe
2007-10-15 07:41:00 Wild. This show was one of my favorites of all time. I never ever know what to expect from shows. I have found it is always better to lay any expectations to the side. I wouldn't say that if I had let myself speculate that I would have had high enough expectations for this show. The crowd sounded so loud and beautiful. At times, they were with me as I led them through every turn. At other times they led and I just tried my best to hang on. It was an energetic set, especially for an (mostly) acoustic (mostly) solo show. I had a set list written out that I thought was moving and entertaining, but as the crowd roared I couldn't help but add more and more songs into the set. My favorite moment during the show may have been when, moved by the energy of the crowd, I threw "Keep Watch For The Mines" into the set for its first performance. Not only was this song NOT on the set list, I wasn't even sure I had memorized all the words! It was amazing! I couldn't believe all the voices singi...

2007-10-13 18:41:00 From the outset this show was a wild one. The room was jam-packed! It was the biggest and the loudest singing crowd of the tour yet. It could have been the sheer numbers or the physical configuration of the room, but the crowd sounded like an arena crowd to me. What fun. Dallas is where Johnny lives now, so when I said that one of the members of Dashboard lives in Dallas, I swear I felt the walls shake with the cheer it received. We had skipped Dallas on the last band tour. I guess they had stored up their excitement! On to VegasC*§ource: Dashboard Confessional's myspace*

Dashboard Confessional - The Russian
2007-10-11 07:08:00 I grew up in CT in an apartment complex that was housed almost entirely by families of Russian immigrants. The first good friends that I made were all Russian. My first fight was with a Russian bully. My first kiss was with a Russian girl (the bully's sister). My first girlfriend was Russian (not the bully's sister). I came to know a lot about their customs and I came to understand the vast differences between our American (especially my Italian American) culture and theirs. The thing that sticks out the most about those families to me now is the stern and stoic nature of the parents. These parents, especially, but not exclusively, the fathers were built of stone. Their faces never cracked. No smile or joy ever showed. They bore a sort of perma-frown that could freeze you in your tracks. These families, however, were not cold. They would invite my brothers and I into their homes, they would cook for us and tell us how they felt about living in the United States. They would tell us...
Dashboard Confessional - Austin Blog
2007-10-10 07:11:00 Had a fun start for our Texas run in Austin last night. We played a LONG set. The crowd seemed ready for more all the way till the last note. It was great. It was the first night that I heard the audience calling out requests for the new songs!I played "Anyone, Anyone" and got some crap for mixing up some of the words. Hey ?I wrote that song NINE years ago, I'm just glad I even remember it exists! After the show I met a bunch of you and spent some time with a long time fan, a guitar player named Dennis, and his wife. We geeked out a bit over Battlestar Galactica and he asked me about a song of mine that has been floating around called "what I wanted to say was". Calling it a song is a bit of a misnomer. It was an off the cuff , kind of spur of the moment, musical rant that sounded really pretty at the time but slipped from my memory instantaneously. He was hoping it would have been on this new LP. He sent me a copy and I got it this morning. I haven't listened yet. I had built it i...

2007-10-06 22:16:00 As I write this we have just finished our first night in Orlando. The show was great and the crowd was loud. Home state loud, This show goes into the books as the first time the crowd sang along (and loudly!) to the new songs, We played "Where There's Gold..." and as the audience sang along, I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I will never forget it.I have been wondering how many new songs to do on this tour. I don't want to do too many because I know how good it is to hear a band you love to the songs you love, but the new record is so suited for a tour like this. You should hear the song "The Shade Of Poison Trees" live. We have been checking with it. I look forward to you guys getting to know this record so we can share these tunes together. As for older tunes, as I said I intended, we brought "As Lovers Go" back into the set for the first time in a year or so. Dashboard Confessional: The Shade of Poison Trees
2007-10-03 20:06:00 Dashboard Confessional: The Shade of Poison TreesDashboard Confessional has always been Chris Carrabba. When Dashboard first appeared on the scene in 2000, I wanted to like him. He was born and raised in West Hartford, CT, the town next to where I was born and raised. He got his start playing the same places I went. But Dashboard's super sappy acoustic rock always rang a little to trite to me. I could never really get into him.I must admit after his sophomore album, The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most I stopped listening. Of course I heard some tracks like "Vindicated" from the Spiderman soundtrack, but I never really paid attention.Seven years after he appeared on the scene, his sixth album The Shade of the Poison Trees is hailed as his return to form. I decided I would try again.I must say I never thought I would use the word "impressed" in the same sentence as Dashboard Confessional, but I was impressed by The Shade of the Poison Tree. The opening track "Where Ther...
