Furniture Rentals Consumer Protection And
2008-04-01 16:17:00 Furniture rentals, furniture leasing, and equipment rental are practical choices for furnishing seasonal or temporary homes. However, not every leasing company gives consumers the best rates and deals. Some companies even give vague answers or answer inquiries incompletely. Hence, most consumers are misinformed about their leasing options and their rights on leasing deals. They often end up surprised about the high prices when their leasing bill arrives. They don't have any choice but to pay because they signed the deal. But avoiding these furniture rentals, furniture leasing, and equipment rental flubs are easy with a dose of common sense. Common sense, here, means making informed and practical choices before signing leasing contracts. Doing a bit of research about furniture rentals, furniture leasing, and equipment rental rates and companies may save consumers from legal and financial problems later. Few bother with it, but there is a law designed to protect consumers' rights fr...

Obama gets his mind right on consumer protection laws
2007-12-17 20:46:00 One of my first pieces on Barack Obama was critical of his tone-deaf attitude on the safety of imported products made in China and other countries–an issue which has vaulted into the public eye due to the strings of recalls of products because of lead toxicity, manufacturing defects, and a million other deaths by a thousand cuts. Well, it seems that he has listened to the outcries and modified his stance considerably, because he advanced a proposal last week to double the funding of the Consumer Product Safety Commission if he is elected President: “I’ve challenged the Bush administration and the toy companies to do a better job of protecting our children from unsafe toys, especially those made in China,” Obama said. “And I introduced a bill that would make it illegal to sell a toy that has more than trace amounts of lead - and that’s a bill I’ll sign into law when I’m President.” Speaking at West High School in Waterloo, Obama...
Eco-Friendly Consumer Protection!
2007-10-29 05:34:00 The competition watchdog is to clamp down on marketing schemes that claim all sorts of "green" benefits, including those associated with carbon credits. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will check the authenticity of several green marketing products after receiving a growing number of complaints. ACCC commissioner John Martin said the consumer protection provisions of the Trade Practices Act still applied to green marketing claims, irrespective of whether business was promoting "green" motor vehicles, "green" flights or "green" toilet paper. "In light of the growing number of complaints, the ACCC is taking a closer look at a number of the green claims that are being made at the moment," he said, addressing a conference. "All businesses need to ensure they are not misleading their customers with such claims." Mr Martin said many people incorrectly believed green marketing referred solely to the promotion or advertising of products with environmental characteristics....

Short Sale Consumer Protection Laws
2007-10-22 00:16:00 There is a California state law that limits investor purchases of short sale homes. The limitation affects those sales when the home is owner-occupied and the investor does not intend to live in the home he purchases. The exclusions from this situation would be if the home is vacant, tenant occupied or if the purchaser intends to use the property as his principal residence. There are teeth in this law too. Realtors can be held financially and criminally liable as well as the investor.

News : EU Consumer Protection Targets iTunes
2007-03-13 01:25:00 On the eve of the announcement of a new Europe-wide consumer protection program, whose stated aim is to ensure consumers' ability to return products purchased online for refunds if they're not satisfied - regardless of what country they were purchased from - the lead architect of that program, EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva, hinted to the German newsweekly Focus that Apple's iTunes service could be directly impacted. One possible cause for consumer dissatisfaction may be the realization that music tracks purchased from iTunes are not portable across all digital devices or CD players. Last January, officials in Norway (not an EU member) declared iTunes illegal in that country for a multitude of reasons, the alleged non-interoperability of the underlying system being just one of them. Another was the fact that Apple does not give iTunes customers any redress - a way to "return" downloaded material with which they're dissatisfied, for a refund. Consumers could become dissatisfied af...

This protective role of the State depends upon the social activity it is protecting. The criminal proclivity is eliminated by punishing the offender through the penal law of the country. Similarly, the civil breaches and distortions [...]
