Having shipped over a billion mobile phones over the years, from the legendary 3310 to the latest Lumia range, Nokia are one of the oldest players in the market. One of their biggest markets is India. Nokia India is their Indian branch, and one of the most successful in terms of sales. Recently, Anirvan Ghosh of Forbes India interviewed former Managing Director and current Senior VP of Sales for Nokia India, Mr. D Shivakumar. Here are some interesting facts we picked up from the interview. An IIT Madras and IIM Kolkata graduate, Shivakumar joined Nokia India 6 years ago, in 2006. Before that, he headed consumer electronics at Philips and also did a stint in Hindustan Levers. e-Commerce: e-Mail Marketing Consumer Report, i risultati della ricerca da
2011-12-09 14:11:00

The amount of elaborate argumentation to justify stealing digital property is nothing short of amazing - a digital copy, as the name implies, is indeed a replica, and I still have the original. You know, the same original I paid from my money to produce, which has CD's printed via my money, and copyright (I believe the name is self-explanatory) I paid for myself, not to mention the very long hours of work I did myself. There are no corporate monsters, no shady dealings, no companies doing my marketing, it's all my work and money, and it will get ripped and distributed illegally like all others (albeit with a lot less downloads than, say, Periphery or Animals as Leaders). Everytime that occurs, I'll get 0 back, so I go from the "potential sale" to the "guaranteed no sale" with a click. Now that many musicians are self-produced, the whole "taking from the evil corporate machine" thing needs to be taken with a grain of salt, more than ever before.... You are mixing two very diff...

Facebook Scores Abysmally Low On Consumer Satisfaction
2010-07-22 11:24:00
It is official – Facebook has crossed 500 million users! On this landmark occasion, Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of Facebook Stories, a portal for sharing stories on how Facebook has helped you, weaving the virtual world into a close knit family. This comes as a way to pacify consumers who are slowly protesting against Facebook’s privacy settings and controls. Though Facebook’s woes continue, it is laughing its way to the bank. A recent survey conducted by the American Consumer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) threw up a surprising result that had many implications. The survey was conducted to find out how consumers react to social media websites. The survey shows that the consumer satisfaction with social media is poor overall, with other industries like automobiles, food and beverages, electronics, internet retail, apparel and others surging ahead. The underperformer was Facebook despite its strong market presence. Facebook and MySpace turned in an abysmal perf...

Congress has been working on the largest serious proposal for an overhaul of the regulation of financial markets since the Great Depression.Unfortunately, it's not really reform if we want to exempt things left and right. Things like auto dealerships from a consumer protection agency.Senator Sam Brownback, a Kansas Republican, said "They [auto dealers] are the quintessential Main Street business in the country." He continued his comments saying "There's not a single auto dealer on Wall Street." Hey, uh, Sam, ya got a minute? What about GMAC? Not exactly an auto dealer, but it provided 75 percent of financing of GM dealers before it technically became a bank in an elbow rub deal with the Federal Reserve.Sam, Sam, wait up! Houselogic - a new site for the consumer - you be the judge
2009-11-20 19:11:00
Houselogic is a new web site for the consumer by NAR (National Association of Realtors). It's in beta form so take a drive and see how you like.... What is this so good? Being a consumer advocate I look for direct sources that benefit the client. What is it? It's a detailed site with knowledge about anything to do with real estate, how to spend and save money on various real estate projects.  Basically, anything to improve and maintain your home and make the right financial decision. I bet a lot of you don't know that Realtor.com is not owned by the NAR.  They sold the name back in 1996, not understanding where the internet was going.   They have no control over the ad content of the site they only make a royalty. So this is NAR's attempt to take all their incredible information and build a web site in house for the consumer!  It's sophisticated and smart - owner smart as they say. In my opinion and it's been for the last 5 years, the best re...

Brand Positioning Online In The Age Of Consumer Driven Media
2009-10-26 19:15:00
I landed up on a blog post about advertising and communications, about how they are different from one another and their overall impact on brand positioning. In essence the post revolved around the idea that advertising is brand positioning and not communicating product details. My immediate reaction, whether right or wrong, was that this idea doesn’t hold true online. So I set myself up on finding resources on the web that might prove me right. Blame my morbid luck these days, I only found well SEO’d and utterly useless articles in my search. It basically left me with no reference to create a hypothesis at the least on why I found the post perhaps not applicable to the web. And given my lack of any strong technical background of marketing and branding, I perhaps shouldn’t be speculating on the same. However, this did give me enough thought on how a brand and its positioning efforts need to take in to account social media. Clearly it wasn’t just about where y...

As my kids are growing, so are their appetites. I have 3 skinny kids and really didn't think they ate a lot. But as the groceries seem to dwindle at a rapid pace, I am now realizing that yes, they ARE little piggies. Either that, or I'm eating in my sleep.Heh.If you take a look at my checkbook, other than bill entries, you mostly see: "Wegmans", "Foodtown", "Wegmans", "Wegmans", etc., etc. We are constantly taking trips to the food store.Quite honestly, it's breaking the bank.I've been trying different ideas to cut back on the expense. I buy store brand items, whenever possible. Most products from Wegmans are great, some not so much. I try something new every trip to see if it will pass the taste test with my kids. If it does, it makes onto the list, permanently.I also have been taking their snacks and breaking them down into snack bags. I purchase the store brand, snack sized, ziploc baggies and place one serving size in each. Though time consuming, I have to say, that since do...

Inflation At The Consumer Level Rose By 0.7 Percent
2009-07-16 09:42:00
The market moved broadly higher at the open this morning as positive earnings reports outweighed lack lackluster economic data. The Commerce Department said inflation at the consumer level rose by 0.7 percent last month, slightly higher than the 0.6 percent increase that economists were expecting. It was the biggest one-month gain since a 0.7 percent increase last July. The big jump was seen as a temporary blip, however.Inflation is not expected to be a problem any time soon given a severe recession which is keeping a lid on wage pressures. The Federal Reserve reported production at the nation's factories, mines and utilities fell 0.4 percent last month as the recession crimped demand for a wide range of manufactured goods, including cars, machinery and household appliances. The decline, however, was not as bad as May.Industrial activity posted a revised 1.2 percent drop then, which turned out to be slightly worse than first reported.Oil prices rose to near $61 a barrel as investors ...
