Oral Contraceptives with Female Names - Camila, Portia, Yasmin
2008-04-11 00:00:00
It may seem strange that I'm mentioning contraceptives on a baby-related blog, but... Have you ever noticed that the names of many oral contraceptives sound a lot like (or really are) female names? For example, there's Camila and Portia, both made by Barr Pharmaceuticals, and Yasmin, made by Bayer. Other birth ...
Bleach, Mountain Dew and Marijuana are Not Contraceptives
2008-04-06 00:00:00
Since 1996, over $1.677 billion has been dumped into abstinence-only sex education and fueled by the religious right refusing to admit that sex exists. Yes, I said it! Sex exists! Since abstinence-only sex education has been adopted by many states, we now get to see the outcome of what abstinence-only does to those receiving ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Bleach, Mountain Dew and Marijuana are Not Contraceptives", url: "http://menstrualpoetry.com/ble-ach-mountain-dew-marijuana-cont-raceptives" });
Using Oral Contraceptives To Treat Cystic Acne
2008-03-20 14:33:00
Women taking oral contraceptives benefit in two ways; it helps prevent pregnancies and also helps in treating acne. This is because there are some oral contraceptives that can help reduce the production of excessive sebum in the skin.   One of the main causes of acne is overactive sebaceous glands in the skin that produces excessive sebum. By taking oral contraceptives while under medical supervision, you will be able to control your acne problem.   Of course, it is better to consult your gynecologist on the best oral contraceptive to be taken to effectively control your acne problem. Another form of treatment for severe acne is the injection of a corticosteroid in the lesion.   This is a great option when preparing for an important function. All that is done here is that a mild steroid is injected into the cyst. The acne is then substantially reduced over a period of a few days’ time.   With this option for treating acne, you find that it prevents scarring as it reduces all p...

These methods are usually available through family planning clinics, community health clinics, or from physicians, especially gynecologists, who provide this kind of information and assistance. Major U.S. Newsweekly Offers Sanitized Version of Racist Margaret Sanger
2007-08-09 07:00:00
From LifeSite: U.S.News & World Report, a rival of Time magazine and Newsweek, published an article on Sunday entitled, “The Passions Behind the Pill, helping women in poverty is what drove the development of the oral contraceptive.” The story makes no hint of the fact that Margaret Sanger was a rabid racist who wanted the complete ...
College student cough up costs, kids
2007-07-27 12:00:00
College kids may soon find themselves paying for two tuitions if they're not careful. Cheap contraceptives are no longer being supplied to colleges across the country. As a result of the Deficit Reduction Act signed in last year, discounted anti-daddy drugs became "a disincentive for drug makers". Budgeting for books or babies may prove difficult between school and sex, so at least now you'll have a decent excuse for not reading the course materials.tags technorati : birthcontrol college contraceptives deficitreductionact drugs school universities

From the New York Times: In a rousing indictment of the Bush administration and the Supreme Court it created, Senator Barack Obama told a Planned Parenthood convention here on Tuesday that the next election would decide a fundamental question: “What kind of America will our daughters grow up in?” The speech by Mr. Obama, of Illinois, came ...

Scientists discover male contraceptives
2006-12-02 16:15:03
Yes. Scientists have now discovered "an innovative contraceptive pill that makes men infertile within hours.""Experts say a male pill could transform family planning roles by allowingcouples to share the responsibility of contraception ? a burden that usuallyfalls to women."Contraception... burden?? Jokingly, I always tell Michael that the end of the world or the "three days of darkness" are near. In all honesty though, when you read news like these, how the God-made union between a man and a woman is reduced to an animal act and how the human person is violated even before they are born, I have a hard time thinking of ways that we can revert from this culture of death.Visit Australia's Herald Sun for the full story.

News-Medical.Net - According to a new study by researchers in the U.S., oral contraceptives and intrauterine devices (IUD) appear to provide long-term protection against endometrial cancer. The researchers, led by Dr. Xiao Ou Shu of Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee conducted a study of 1,204 women from Shanghai with newly diagnosed endometrial cancer and compared them to 1,212 healthy women. The women were then matched according to various characteristics. The endometrium is the lining of the uterus, or womb and endometrial cancer involves a cancerous growth in that area which mainly occurs after menopause and causes vaginal bleeding. A hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus) is generally performed to treat the disease. It is the most common gynecologic cancer in the United States, and over 35,000 women are diagnosed with it each year. Christians, Contraceptives and Children
2006-08-20 19:27:04
I recently came across an interesting article from the Wall Street Journal on evangelicals and contraception (HT: Sharper Iron Filings). Let me provide some excerpt and then pose some questions. A Harris Poll conducted online in September 2005 shows that evangelicals overwhelmingly support birth control (88%). A recent New York Times article on the subject, it is true, quoted Albert Mohler, the president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, saying that the separation between sex and procreation caused by contraceptives is “ominous.” But he also went on to say that “evangelical couples may, at times, choose to use contraceptives in order to plan their families and enjoy the pleasures of the marital bed.”… Protestants’ acceptance of contraception has a relatively short history. The 1930 Lambeth conference of Anglican bishops was the first Christian church body to authorize the use of contraceptives within marriage, even as it condemned certain ...
