Family of Conway Twitty Sues Sony/ATV
2008-03-02 05:07:00
In yet another case of an artist's family suing the big record companies over business practices, the children of Conway Twitty have sued Sony/ATV saying that they did not understand a 1990 agreement where Twitty sold his music publishing and sound recording rights. Twitty passed away in 1993.Twitty's daughter, Joni Jenkins Riels, contends that nothing was explained at the time and they did not know what they were giving up. Riels' lawyer says that the children would receive more than $100,000 per year from the recordings. On the other side of the controversy is Twitty's widow, Dee Jenkins, who says that they knew what they were signing. Rose Palermo, a lawyer for the estate, said "I'm somewhat astounded that they make an allegation that they didn't know what they were doing. He was supporting his children. And at the time, he was giving some of them $50,000 a year in salaries and a free place to live. To make this allegation is a direct slam at Conway, who was one of t...

There was a time in Trisha Yearwood’s life when she needed drama in her relationships just so she could feel something, but she’s thankful that time has passed. These days she channels the emotion into her songs. Willis Alan Ramsey recorded an album in 1972 and hasn’t recorded one since. “As Ramsey likes to say, ain’t ...

Number 536Conway Twitty"Its Only Make Believe"(1958) .. .Genre:Rock n RollPic by lizbraun (buy it!)So, your in the 1950's and your name is Conway Twitty? Well, you wouldn't want to rock up to your first day at college with a name like that would you? So it would be quite surprising if you knew he changed his name to that, from Harold Jenkins? Ah the good ole 50's i tell you. So fess up ..... How many of you have had a pompadour hmmm? Last living person i knew who had a head of hair like that was the lead singer out of Dread Zepplin (and I'm sure that's just a stage act ~ i hope)What a sezzy Pompadour notI must admit i do like the music from this time period. It reminds me of, say, "Christine" the movie about a homicidal spiteful evil car (written by Stephen King, i would love to see Christine kill the VW "Herbie" take that Disney!) Also this music reminds me of the soundtrack "American Graffiti" and that album from 1973 was a huge influence to me back then, Platters, Crests, De...

There was a scary moment at last night’s WSM Listener Appreciation concert starring new Hall of Fame members Vince Gill and Mel Tillis. Joe Samuel Starnes recalls his first Willie Nelson Fourth of July Picnic for The New York Times. His show was transcendent. That?s a highfalutin word that I would almost never use, but I honestly felt as if I were taking a trip back in time to another era, through Willie?s guitar and voice and the artful ...
Conway Twitty - Mona Lisa (1959)

Originally a '50s rock & roll singer, Conway Twitty became the reigning country superstar of the '70s and '80s, racking up a record 40 number one hits over the course of two decades. With his deep, resonant down-home voice, Twitty was one of the smoothest balladeers to work in Nashville during the country-pop era, but he was also one of the most adventurous. More than any other singer, he was responsible for selling country as an "adult" music, slipping sexually suggestive lyrics into his lush productions, yet never singing misogynist lyrics -- by and large, his songs were sensitive and sensual, which is part of the reason why he achieved such a large success. Once Twitty reached the top of the country charts in the late '60s, he stayed there for years on end, releasing a consistent stream of Top Ten hits that both defined and expanded the limitations of country-pop by adding subtle R&B, pop, and rock & roll influences. Though he had some pop success, Twitty remained country to ...
