THE COOK ISLANDSThe Cook Islands is one of the world?s best kept holiday secrets in the Pacific Ocean. They are not only a set of tree-laden islands with stunning white sand beaches to be seen from the top of magnificent dormant volcanoes. The Cook Islands has its history imbued with a rich infusion of Polynesian and European histories, and is reflected in their lush culture of song and dance, which is so potent that it would make any visitor?s heart sing with joy. The 15-island self-governing democracy currently holds a free association with New Zealand. With a total of 236km˛ of land, scattered over two million square kilometres, the coast line stretches a massive 120kms ? so there?s plenty of beach-space to go around. Most people?s first experience of the Cook Islands is most likely to be that of Rarotonga, the youngest island in the Cook Islands southern group. Situated within the Southern group of islands, it?s also the capital of the Cook Islands.32km˛ in circumference, the is...

RAROTONGA - COOK ISLANDS
2007-02-21 02:47:00
CRUISING IN PARADISE - SEPTEMBER 2004After departing from Huahine, we had a full day at sea to get to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. The Cook Islands are located at the heart of South Pacific: they lie in the centre of the Polynesian Triangle, flanked to the west by The Kingdom of Tonga and the Samoas and to the east by Tahiti and the islands of French Polynesia. Cook Islands consist of 15 islands, scattered over an area the size of India with a total population of approximately 18000 souls, no bigger than a small New Zealand country town... Rarotonga, whose name stems from «raro» meaning «down» and «tonga» meaning «south», is the youngest island in the Cook Islands southern group, and stands 4500 meters above the ocean floor. The volcano has a diameter of roughly 50km, at a depth of 4000 meters, and its highest peak is 658 meters above sea level. The island is surrounded by a lagoon, protected by a reef distant some hundred meters, which then slopes steeply to deep water. Rarotonga...

Survivor: Cook Islands' J.P. Calderon Comes Out
2007-01-31 14:05:02
If any of you watch ''The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency' you'll know that Survivor: Cook Islands' J.P. Calderon was hired by Janice to represent him. Last week Instinct Magazine contacted Janice regarding offering J.P. a cover. The only stipulation? They only place 'out' gay men on their covers. That's when Janice had to go to J.P. and very delicately ask him if he were gay.I'm sure that Janice already knew his sexual orientation, J.P. hung out at gay clubs and with gay men, but he had never come out publicly. And Janice, unlike Perez Hilton, just wanted J.P. to decide if he was ready or not to come out to the world. Now, the thing that pissed me off is that The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency reality show stretched this out two weeks. We were supposed to see J.P. coming out last week but they ran it into a sort of 'To be continued..' bullshit ending. So it will be this Wednesday that we will see J.P. come out publicly. "It?s not every day somebody gets slapped ...
Survivor Cook Islands, the race war begin
2006-12-27 10:33:01
I am usually not a huge fan of the reality TV show Survivor. I have always prided myself on having better things to do then watch a pack of crazy hobos with out of control facial/leg hair demonstrate why it is important to use sunscreen. I personally have never understood the value of sunscreen, until I saw how the entire Survivor cast has skin like an old Baseball mitt. However, the new 13th season, Survivor Cook Islands, looks like it could be promising. The twist this season is that the twenty castaways will be divided along racial lines ? Caucasian, African-American, Asian-American and Hispanic. Finally, the human race will be able to decide once and for all, which race is superior. At first glance, you might expect that the athletically dominate race would prevail, but that is when the twist comes in to play. In order to win Survivor you have to better at lying, cheating, manipulation, enduring prolonged sun exposure, solving puzzles, and being able to deal with sand in odd ori...

What a Survivor Cook Islands Finale last night!
2006-12-19 22:15:01
Before this season of Survivor (Cook Island) aired, I didn't know what to think after reading the press release and the previews of the show and that GM had pulled out along with the fact that the tribes would be divided up by race, but I kept an open mind and would wait and see how the season placed out.Following last nights finale with a winner crowned, this season was one of the best yet, I enjoyed it. They didn't have a challenge were a car was the prise, but not bad. The role of having the tribes at the beginning broken up by race really didn't really come into play. Some stayed true to there original groups and others didn't.Moving on past that. In a first in Survivor history, there was a jury of nine members and three finalists to vote for. In years past, having only two to choose from, mading who lesser of the two, having three could have made it better, but this season, viewers really didn't find out. There was one point in the finale at the second to last tribecoucil t...

Survivor: Cook Islands
2006-09-15 17:51:01
A new season of Survivor is upon us, and with it comes controversy. Apparently, there is this thing called “race” that I have never heard of. From what I hear, you can divide people into categories by “race” in the same way you could with “gender” or “eye color.” I have never heard of “gender” or “eye color” before either. Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all blind and deaf? Also, we could live in tiny single person boxes under the ground. Asian-American, Caucasian, Latino, and African-American is how the tribes are originally split up. I prefer to be called a Caucasian-American, thank you very much. This show is racial insensitive towards me. All the survivors were rushed off a boat on to rafts with minimal supplies. Now they must survive on their race alone. Wits. I mean wits. The Latinos think they have an advantage because they grew up in tropical areas. The Asian-Americans think they have the advantag...
First Impressions: Survivor: Cook Islands
2006-08-29 19:33:13
I usually wait to comment on a show until I give my first impressions after the first episode airs but I was taken aback on all the negative feedback with the announcement of tribe on the new season of Survivor (click to see the cast for yourself), oddly enough the thirteenth installment, that I better do it now while everyone else is talking about. For those that are unaware, this season, they are dividing the contestants into four equal tribe divided by race: Caucasians, African-Americans, Asians, and Hispanics. This change was a blatant attempt to drum up free publicity and as I peruse the internet, everyone seemed to bite on it.What was really surprising was how negative everyone was about race change. Most everyone I read disliked the idea to full blown hatred, to downfall of the civilization bad, how they could make that claim when Paris Hilton released her album the exact same is beyond me, but I guess we all look at Revelations different ways. I just can?t see why everyone i...
