The original game for Nintendo DS has sold over 1 million units all on its lonesome, and follow-ups for Wii and DS this year have pushed that total ever higher. A second Wii entry in the series will be revealed soon and on shelves this year, Majesco said. The press release touting the accomplishment is quite awkward in how it plays with the numbers. For example, it says the original Cooking Mama on DS sold 1 million units, which means the two sequels make up the other 600,000, and that's fine --- but it's no coq au vin with white asparagus and a glass of 2004 Ravenswood Cooke Zinfandel. Majesco CEO Jesse Sutton says the success of the franchise is like catching lightning in a bottle. Although the Cooking Mama games obviously cost very little to make, it might be time to generate more lightning. 2007-08-15 19:12:00 It's the story of the little franchise that could as Majesco announced Cooking Mama on the DS has shipped a half million units.The DS game, and its Wii counterpart, have been responsible for significantly boosting Majesco's bottom line. Despite control issues with the Wii version, which Majesco addressed soon after, the DS version is definitely a shining example of solid DS control design.With a sequel in the works, it doesn't look like Cooking Mama is slowing down anytime soon. Although there isn't an official release yet, Todd Greenwald, an analyst with Nollenberger Capital, expects the sequel Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends to be out by this holiday season.
