The Copenhagen Distortion Festival 2008 in Norrebro...a few pics
2008-06-06 19:14:00 Like there was a choice whether to join or not. When your flat lies just around the corner from the heart of the action, as does the flat of yours truly, you may as well embace the action and join in. So last night the Distortion Festival was as loud and rowdy and amusing as was to be expected. From the 'Obama' Party bus to Christiania Cycle (with build in sound system) that kept the music playing even after it had 'officially' stopped, to the guys with a draft beer tap set up in their ground floor apartment serving beer directly through their window onto the street (now that's entrepreneurial spirit - especially given the outrageous queues at the local kiosks selling beer!) it was an entertaining evening. As the Distortion Festival proves, when the sun shines so does Copenhagen...and when the sun sets, the fun really begins (even on a Thursday night). Thank goodness for the weekend...and the Distortion Festival in Vesterbro.www.cphdistortion.dka-hhhhh, Sankt Hans Torv...the offic...
The Copenhagen Distortion Festival Hits Norrebro...
2008-06-04 22:16:00 On Thursday, the annual Copenhagen Distortion Festival hits Nørrebro. Last year it was a great evening, with the police even cooperating and closing down some streets to traffic until extremely late in the evening (as the music played on...). Tomorrow threatens to be even better - the weather looks to be just perfect, and the Festival gets more and more word of mouth and media attention every year. And it's good. Always. If you're into this sort of thing, at least occasionally. On Friday the festival hits Vesterbro, and then on Saturday is the Final party. But there's something about a mid-week party that can be a welcome relief, even if only once in a while. And the area around Sankt Hans Torv is just the right size to have an intimately massive little happening.www.cphdistortion.dkH-opefully more to report shortly.

2008-05-15 15:02:00 Finally, Denmark gets a clue. Not only is multiculturalism a bad thing, it is a death sentence for any country that practices it. New Casch Copenhagen
2008-05-05 23:52:00 I've been following Casch Copenhagen for a couple of years, since I purchased a lovely wool jacket from Anthropologie. I still wear that jacket in cooler weather, but now I can get my Casch fill in the Spring/Summer months as well! I ordered these two sweaters last week from Active Endeavors (using the grechen coupon code to save 20% of course...), and they just arrived today. I had originally wanted them to wear over dresses, but the pink striped one especially is too long and big. The yellow short-sleeved sweater may work over dresses...but I prefer it as a t-shirt alternative with jeans. The pink sweater is perfect for keeping in my purse for when I am running errands, or have to be inside AT ALL; I literally freeze whenever I am in the air conditioning! The sweaters are a bit itchy, but not so much I think they will be uncomfortable for a few hours wear. They are hand-wash only, and very delicate, but that's what makes them so perfect for warmer weather!!

The Copenhagen Experience
2008-05-04 12:34:00 Watch and feel the mood and look of the Mads Nørgaard- Copenhagen collection. The Copenhagen Experience is his project that's going to run consectively through three of his collections- starting in SS08. His second short film came out in Feb and because Freja-Beha (as well as male model Eddie Klint and co.) is in it, there's no way I'm not blogging about this. The SS08 video:which I didn't like nearly as much as "The Copenhagen Experience #2" for Nørgaard's AW08 collection, aka the "Paint it Black" collection. His current work is:about simplicity and elegance - confronted by decadence, trying to give decadence an updated meaning. Paris in the early sixties has been important, so has London - Mary Quant, Courreges and Cardin - Bob Dylan playing electric at London Olympia in 1966 - the optimism - confronted by a touch of spleen, weltschmertz. The tone is slightly thoughtful, and at the same time sexy, shiny and elegantly optimistic. Maybe because it's smoother (as oppo...

One foot in the Gay Grave - Copenhagen cemetery
2008-04-09 15:24:00 The Rainbow association, a group of Danish Gays have set aside a section a graveyard in Copenhagen so that Homosexuals can be buried together. A member of the association, Ivan Larsen, said: "We founded an association called Regnbuen (Rainbow) and our goal is that gays and lesbians can be buried next to each other. "We don't want to isolate ourselves but we also feel a need to be together. We see this as a family grave, one that will be taken care of by our family.''I was wondering how bisexuals will get on. Will they have one foot in the Gay Grave?

When a (Copenhagen) blogger quits...
2008-03-26 18:51:00 Sometimes you don't realise how much you have appreciated something until it's pulled out from under your feet. On Sunday, Sabine over at Oh - Those Danes...! announced she was stopping her excellent blog. Now that is not only a shame, but a real loss for those seeking an (English) window into Denmark. Hopefully she decides to leave her extensive archive of posts online, as they are a real treasure-trove.For Sabine has been a truly prolific blogger on the subject of Denmark and the Danes.I would describe her approach to blogging as rigorous (far more rigorous than mine) - rarely did has a day passed in the past couple years without a post from her (or an explanation for why there wouldn't be one). She never failed to find something insightful, pithy, amusing or clever to attach to one given issue or other - in succinct and reasoned posts. And rarely has she missed tackling the big issue of the day in Denmark, whatever it was.Rarely have I found myself disagreeing with her, though...

On toast and ovens and heating stuff (in certain Copenhagen apartments)...a
2008-02-12 08:11:00 by: Tim Anderson (timothyanderson2005@gmail.com)-Here we have a distinctly Danish toaster. It is, from a global perspective, not your typical toaster.Rather, if you're not from Denmark, it's probably not like any toaster you've used or owned before. I hadn't. I thought it would be a cool and very Danish thing to go out and buy one for myself, until I realised that the real value of a toaster comes from the fact that the bread gets toasted (quickly) on both sides at once. Do it one side at a time and not only is it slower but, inevitably, one side gets cold while the other is being toasted. So I decided to go for the more traditional version and spurn Danish design (actually, I've never figured out whether the design is actually Danish...).Anyway, this is just a lead-in, as this is not a post about toasters. Well, it sort of is. It's actually a post that is more generally about heating things, buying contraptions that heat things, and the state of apartments in Copenhagen. Our a...

Copenhagen Tip: Happy to be free!
2008-01-17 16:08:00 Denmark, home to Hans Christian Andersen and all those friendly, tall—and it must be said—great Danes, was recently proclaimed the happiest place on earth. In a number of population studies, pollsters asked residents to rate their level of happiness and other factors, and it seems the Danes have a real twist for felicity. All this happiness, in spite of high taxes and hefty price tags? After all, according to the Big Mac Index, a Happy Meal must cost at least $5 in Copenhagen! Yet we agree: Denmark is a happy (and happening) place! Here are five of our favorite and free ways to boost your serotonin in Copenhagen: 1) Get cultured In 2006, the National Museum and the Statens Museum of Kunst became free to the public. And, every Wednesday, a number of other major museums and galleries open their doors without a charge. We suggest the Tøjhusmuseet, where the relics of the Royal Danish Arsenal are housed, and the Hirschsprungske and Ordrupgaard Collections, two museums ...
