Hot Dog on a Stick corn dog

Corn dog from "Hot Dog on a Stick". It was my first time trying this place, and I liked it a lot. They deep-fry to order, so it's always hot. It was $2.75 + tax = $2.98.This is the corn dog I bought at the Orange County Fair. It was huge, but also it was $8 and the taste was nasty. My husband got a burger here, it was around $10, and he got food poisoning. http://www.hotdogonastick.com/f-rames.html

Grilled Butter Corn on Cob
2008-11-27 00:00:00
I miss the Pasar Malam (a Malay word for Night Market) I used to go to when I was a little girl. The sellers just laid a cloth or canvas sheet on floor and display what they are selling there. Very much like the the flea market at Sungei Road. Then came the Fun Fair with all the rides and game stall. I can't remember what we ate then because I was only interested in the games. But I do remember the drinks were still in glass bottle form and the stools were all made of wood. I love the game where you try to throw and get your ring to land on some coloured pins for prizes. And not forgetting the knock down cans! Sigh! The good fun old days. And yes, I'm that old. ;)The Pasar Malam nowadays are b-o-r-i-n-g. Even my kids doesn't like to go. Well, except when there are rides. We just have a look if we happen to be there. Usually, we will buy some food back. My son's favourite is the "Shark's Fin" soup. No, no shark's fin in there. ;)For me, I got to have the "bird's nest" drink, w...

Corn and Celery Soup
2008-09-26 02:15:00
Half a year ago, my husband when for his regular check-up and was told that his cholesterol was rather high. Now, if you can recall, I did many fish dishes as that was what he was advised to eat more. Well except for promfet and ikan bilis WITH heads on, as both will bring up the cholesterol level especially the later which is extreme high on cholesterol. Don't even think of using it to make stock. So next time, buy those without the head on.Anyway, back to my husband's little 'diet'. He took very little meat and seafood. His dinner is mostly fish, vegetables and soup. This is one of the regular soup I made for him. Celery soup. Do you know celery can help lower cholesterol? The bad thing is, he hates celery. So in order to bring down the taste of celery. I added onion and corn together with celery to had it sweeter. Sometimes with carrots. It's very much like the 'ABC' Soup except this has more celery in it. It's really not that bad. Maybe, I like celery. ;)Although, his chol...

$1.39 for corn pops? Now, THAT's an inconvenient truth.
2008-08-15 04:53:00
The other day, Dad was telling me about a drive he took down to Iowa for the weekend. "Gas," he said, "Was only $3.50 a gallon. Not bad."How quickly we get used to the higher prices, the increased costs. Movie tickets are $9.00, in Wisconsin. Tonight at the grocery store, the bags of Corn Pops we buy were still $1.39, but the bags themselves were smaller. But getting used to it and liking it are not the same thing; the economy is down -- that's for sure -- but something can be done about it, and there are guys out there who know what we can do to improve things. Guys Warren Buffett, Pete Peterson and Dave Walker -- guys who have made a lot of money understanding the economy. Those guys, together with Fathom and Roadside Attractions, are getting together for one night only to presentI.O.U.S.A., a critically lauded documentary about the economy today; it's been called the 'inconvenient truth' of economic movies. It's from the producers and studio that made other great docume...
Corn Peas Tomato Salad
2008-08-08 10:07:00
I am not much of a salad person. I mean, I do like them but not as a meal in itself. Most of the salads are ones I make as an accompaniment to the main course. Because of this I don't spend much time on them, especially the dressing. After beginning to work, I find myself pressed for time to make dinner and I feel bad when there is just one gravy and one curry with rice. TH never complains but still I feel guilty. So salads like these are my solution! I sometimes fill the gap with raita too, but about that in a different post :)Now onto the salad. What I Used:Serves 2 (on the side)Boiled Corn kernels - 1 cupBoiled peas - 1/2 cupFinely chopped onions - 1/2 cupFinely Chopped tomatoes - 1/2 cupMinced garlic - 1/4 tsp (1-2 cloves)Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp (I used white)Lime juice - 1 tbsp (or to taste)Salt - to tasteHow I Made It:1. Mix the salt, garlic and pepper with the lime juice.2. Mix all the veggies well and add the above lime juice mixture 10 minutes before serving.*Notes*- I some...
Corn Chowder
2008-08-06 01:04:00
In my estimation corn is one of the most versatile vegetables I can think of. Not only are there endless ways to prepare and serve corn but there are also many health benefits to be derived from corn as well. One of the benefits of corn is that it is high in nutrients. A few of these important nutrients are:Thiamin (vitamin B1) which is used in the metabolism of carbohydrates. Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) which helps with physiological functions. Folate which helps the generation of new cells, and especially important before and during pregnancy and Vitamin C which fights against diseases.Corn is also a good source of fiber. One cup of corn provides 18.4% of the daily recommendation of fiber. Its high fiber content is one of the biggest benefits of corn. Fiber has been shown to help lower cholesterol levels and help reduce the risk of colon cancer. Fiber is also useful in helping to lower blood sugar levels in diabetics. Corn is a low-fat complex carbohydrate that deserves a regular...

Corn and Crabstick Salad
2008-07-30 08:15:00
If you have been to Ajisen, you might find this familiar. Yeah, I'm a copycat but please don't flame me hor.I'm not a Ajisen fan but my kids are. Okay, they are only fans of their Ton Toro Ramen. They have nothing else there but that! Me, not being a fan, usually watch them eat if I bring them there for lunch. :P One of those 'watching them eat' days, I caually flipped their menu (I usually don't see it since it always the same thing we order) and saw this Corn Salad and went ahead to order it. I was cursing myself after that. Why? Because it $7 and you can make it myself. It's basically crabstick, corn, tobiko or ebiko and mayonnaise, all mixed together. Add in some shredded Japanese cucumber for extra crunch if you like. (Okay, maybe they added some secret ingredient that I couldn't taste. I got no sensitive palate. :P) Simple? In case you are wondering, I bought my ingredients from Giant IMM. I'm using Watties frozen Super Sweet Corn. And I steamed the corn and crabstick f...
Minted Peach and Corn Salad
2008-07-19 04:30:00
There are certain food combinations that strike one as just so naturally compatible, you couldn’t imagine them any other way. Consider the seminal chocolate and peanut butter, for instance: could there be a happier marriage of sweet, salty, creamy, smooth, and enticing? Or what about vodka and orange juice, or pancakes and maple syrup, or french fries and gravy, or macaroni and cheese, or apple and cinnamon or–I could go on.  On the other hand, it’s always gratifying to discover alternate matches that may seem bizarre at first glance, yet actually work once you give them a try (funny, why did the HH suddenly come to mind?) When I was an undergraduate at the University of Windsor, my wacky room mate had a friend who ate her pizza with peanut butter where the tomato sauce should have been.  She swore it tasted great (I declined to sample a slice). During my childhood in Montreal, my friend Gemini II used to eat liver sandwiches with cream cheese (again,...
Fried Rice with Baby Corn Manchurian
2008-07-09 14:58:00
I am a huge fan of Indo-Chinese food. Though I hadn't tried any of the recipes before, one day I had this obsessive need to make gobi manchurian. I set out to the wet market but to my huge disappointment, they were out of cauliflower. A bit disappointed, I headed over to the supermarket to get milk, and there in the chiller was a packet of baby corn. A particular evening in Hyderabad flashed through my memory and I knew the answer. Baby corn manchurian!I also needed the quintessential ingredient for Chinese cooking - Soy sauce. There were about a dozen varieties in the supermarket and I picked one which I thought would be closest in taste to the one and only kind available in India - Sil Soy Sauce! Here is the simple meal I made. It came out mild and tasty.Fried RiceServes 2What I Used:Cooked Basmati rice - 2 cupsChopped carrots - 1/2 cupChopped beans - 1/2 cupChopped onions - 1/2 cupCapsicum - half of a medium sized oneGinger garlic paste - 1 tbspSoy sauce - 2 tbspPepper - 2-3 ts...

I’m going crazy about grain, but this is a very good thing as opposed to going nuts for something like deep fried cheese curds, washed down with a diet soda (with Splenda!) and tackling a mountain of ice cream slathered in hot fudge for dessert. Shrimp/Prawns with Sweet Corn Sauce
2008-05-23 21:49:00
I made this delicious dish for dinner last night it was so good and had a wonderful combination of sweet and spice to it. It is yet another zaar member recipe, I have to get back to making some more of my own, but I have saved so many good recipes and I have been really enjoying making them. I did add some snow peas to this as I had some to use up it is a very versatile dish in that you could through left over veg, like capsicum, bean sprouts green beans etc.. all would pair well. I also added red chili instead of jalapeno as I could not get one at the store that day and it was still wonderful. If you have been keeping up with the progress of my beautiful handcrafted camphor laurel chopping, cheese boards and Mezzaluna Boards. The Dangers of High Fructose Corn Syrup
2008-05-21 13:39:00
High Fructose Corn SyrupBefore we get to high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), we will take a look at two other frequently used sweeteners, dextrose and maltodextrin.DextroseDextrose is more or less an industry term for glucose. Glucose isthe most prevalent sugar in the human and the only molecule that the brain can metabolize. Dextrose is refined from corn starch. It has a very high glycemic index (no surprise since it is glucose) and while it contains no fructose, it is still a simple sugar that is very readily absorbed. It is not as dangerous as sucrose but it still is a highly processed product that should be avoided.MaltodextrinMaltodextri-n is also a refined product usually made from either corn or potatoes. It is multiple glucose units somewhat loosely hooked together (a polymer). Because the bonds between the glucose units are very weak, it is also very readily absorbed and has a very high glycemic index. Like dextrose it should be avoided as much as possible. It has been called a...

LesserEvil Black & White Kettle Corn
2008-05-20 04:24:00
LesserEvil my ARSE! These things are PURE evil! I mean that in the nicest way possible. :~) I found them Sunday on my weekly grocery trip and let's just say, the only thing left is the bag. Classic kettle corn with some chocolate gazed kernels YUM YUM and YUM! I'm going to give the nutritional information for a cup, but I have to honest it's going to be hard to stop there. Each cup is 110 calories, with 2 grams of fat and 1 g of fiber. That's a fun 2 points a serving but since we are being honest, I had 3 tonight. So my verdict is buy with caution. They may be too good to resist. ;~P They do have a website with a store finder.
