IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE: THE MARTYR
2011-10-28 15:00:00
Maybe we're a little biased about this one, but being the conscious rebels that we are over here at República, we couldn't help but to post what'll probably go down as the most unheard revolutionary Hip-Hop album of 2011--The Martyr by Immortal Technique. Politics, forgotten history, mental colonization, social upheaval, global unity, and even a guest appearance from Cornell West--it's all there and available for free download from the artist himself:

It?s A Cruel Cruel (Corporate) World?
2011-07-18 09:44:00
The modern working climate is unforgiving. In its never-ending strive for higher productivity and efficiency, employees are a mere cost factor in a firm?s calculation. A cost factor, that constantly has to be optimized, downsized and monitored for return on investment; restructured and adjusted to fit the firm?s strategies and policies. What happened to the ...
3G On Corporate Phones? Not So Soon
2011-07-12 07:43:00
Deepak Halan over at ConsultBenefIT has an informative article about 3G services and the role it will play in the enterprise sector. Service providers are surely seeing large companies and businesses as huge revenue sources with respect to 3G services. At a time when 4G launch rumours are doing the rounds on the internet in India, many companies are yet to make the jump to 3G services. This maybe because of initial apprehension, unavailability of capable handsets, high prices or the simple reason of a company not needing 3G. A study conducted by IMRB revealed that 85% of their sample audience was aware of 3G and nearly 75% felt that it would help their businesses.   Halan goes on to describe various situations under which a businesses might benefit from 3G services. For instance if a company’s workforce has to travel a lot or if they need to handle outstation clients, 3G, specifically video calling can come in handy. Apart from just video calling and conferencing the huge nu...

Baba Ram Dev?s Challenge to Indian Government and Corporate Corruption
2011-06-08 04:56:00
The Swami Ramdev challenge to high level government and corporate corruption in India is but one indicator of the type of institutional violence with which Manmohan Singh is ready to react (see Reuters report below) when confronted not by a handful of determined foreigners from various countries but by a popular swami from within India itself. Baba Ram Dev, like Mahatma Gandhi and other Indian leaders, resorts to the fast-unto-death means of getting his message across. An interesting comment appears at Live Mint.com and The Wall Street Journal:

Illinois bonds worse than corporate junk
2011-02-24 17:39:00
Illinois credit ratings are the equal of corporate junk bonds, yet Illinois had to pay significantly higher interest rates to lure investors to buy the crap. According to the Wall Street Journal: Illinois officials were forced to promise a yield that is about two percentage points higher than was paid by companies with similar credit ratings in recent bond offerings. The state's bond rating is one of the lowest among the 50 states. What this means is that there are fools out there with cash who are willing to take a big risk for a higher return. When Illinois defaults on these bonds, let us not hear the administration of Gov. Pat Quinn or the bondholders beg the federal government...
Allstate Arena Among 5 Most Horribly Corporate Big East Venue Names
2011-02-12 00:16:00
The Big East may be the best conference in all of college basketball, but wow do they have some TERRIBLE  names among their collection of home venues. The super-conference is comprised of 16 teams, and many of them play in arenas with names so blandly and offensively corporate, they make the names of many of the college football bowl games sound romantic and wholesome. 1. BlackBerry Refuses Access To Corporate Emails
2011-01-28 08:05:00
The common thread that has run through this story so far has been RIM’s insistence that providing security agencies with access to its corporate email services is not possible. Even when they agreed to grant access to its messenger services there was a lack of clarity over what would happen with the corporate email. While both sides maintained that they would continue to work together to find a solution to give Indian Security Agencies lawful access to it, there has been no headway. And now, just before the January 31st deadline BlackBerry maker RIM has refused to let them access their corporate email services. Last week, we wrote that RIM’s Vice President for industry, government and university relations, Robert E Crow was on his way to India to discuss the leaks issue and take the talks forward. He has now said that there is No Solution – it isn’t technically feasible. He also went on to say that inaccurate leaks about the company willing to comply with In...

Corporate Casual: Playing Dress Down
2011-01-06 12:00:00
Maybe it was the plaid wool uniforms I had to wear to school during my formative years. Maybe it was the hand-me-downs I was forever inheriting from my older sisters. Maybe it's because the only time I played "dress up" as a kid was on Halloween. Or maybe I inherited the I-Hate-Shopping gene that runs down the male side of my family tree like a like a polka-dot tie on a striped shirt.  Whatever the reason, I spend an inordinate amount of time staring at the contents of my closet each and every morning, wondering what to wear. Not exactly time well-spent for this plate spinner. Until someone comes up with a line of mix-and-match separates for grown-ups, I tend...

BlackBerry Losing Its Sheen In The Corporate World?
2010-11-09 05:03:00
BlackBerry maker RIM (Research in Motion) saw a 3% drop in its shares as investors shied away on account of its losing grip on the market. For quite some time now, the smartphone has been facing a tough competition from its rival devices. Many corporate houses including Bank of America, Citi Group, JPMorgan Chase & Co, Standard Chartered Bank and UBS are considering dumping the Blackberry services and lookout for alternatives for their corporate mail requirements. It was reported that they were also testing software designed to make Apple’s iPhone secure enough for corporate emailing. BlackBerry used to be a hot favorite among busy executives, politicians and bankers, but is seems to be losing its sheen. Possible reasons for this could include the inflow of consumer-oriented smartphones such as iPhone and Android phones, which are equally good and also getting higher acceptance in the market. Another reason is the cost factor. Corporate now prefers to have its employees acces...

What do Choppers, Jihadists & Anti-Depressants Have in Common?
2009-10-30 02:09:00
So here I was on a lazy Saturday morning barely awake switching on my brand new Bravia for the latest international news as I was smelling the freshly brewed Colombian coffee.  It seemed very pleasant outside and I was looking forward to the nice warm weather and a walk by the beach. I was thinking about the fun I'd have for the rest of the day far away from my cubicle when all of a sudden my tranquillity was interrupted by something that sounded like a big explosion. For a microsecond I felt like I was in the middle of Kabul. I looked at the TV in case BBC was showing the latest Taliban attack, but to my avail, it was showing the latest results from the Ashes. Then another loud bang almost made me dropped my precious coffee on my Polo robe. ?What The Flying FAK', I thought? I was neither living in Kabul nor in Baghdad and BBC was just showing freaking cricket! read more
How?s this for Renault?s Corporate Social Responsibility?

Corporate gifting is a holy grail of HR managers who wish to win over the employees’ loyalty. The marketers are happy because the company also stands to provide more exposure to their brands through the T-Shirts and caps. Now slowly, this is also turning out to be a minor business in itself for a few companies with launch of portals selling branded commodities. eYantra is a leader when it comes to corporate gifting solutions in India. If you work for one of those big names in software like TCS or HCL, you would be well aware of Foostor, the portal for employees to purchase corporate gifting items. With Foostor, eYantra was able to let the company branded ecommerce take off in India. It is a win for the employers who get to build their brand and is also a win for the employees who get products at discounted prices. Looking for Data on Corporate IT
2009-08-13 19:31:00
Intalio recently sold Intalio|Cloud (the Managed On-Premises version) to two major customers in Japan, and we're expecting a first deal in Singapore sometime in Q4 this year. We're now working on our go-to-market strategy for the U.S. and EMEA, and are developing various marketing materials to support it, using this presentation as baseline. As part of this effort, we need some third-party validated data on corporate IT. Some of it might be found in analyst reports, some in white papers published by vendors, and some could be derived from verifiable anecdotal evidence. Wherever it comes from, we're looking for it and have decided to crowd-source its gathering. If you know the answers to the following questions, or have some time available to look for them, please share your insight with us. Each answer backed-up by proper references will get you a $25 Apple Gift Card or our infinite gratitude (you pick one). Please send answers to Michael Morel, our new Vice President of Marketin...

Chicago interns move up corporate ladder
2009-07-27 06:00:00
Derek Moody is an intern for Grant Thornton. He's been given quite a lot of responsibilities--none of which entail fetching lattes. (Mike Burley for RedEye) By Tracy Swartz Derek Moody came to Chicago prepared to make coffee. A student at Brigham Young University in Utah, Moody moved to Chicago in May to intern at Grant Thornton, an accounting firm in the Loop. Moody had never had an internship before, so he came to Chicago ready to do anything and everything, including run errands and other expected "intern" tasks. But Moody, 24, said he has yet to ask his co-workers how they like their coffee. Instead, he said he verifies that clients' accounting records are accurate and sits in on...
