Article of incorporation for a company is similar to the constitution for a country. Setting financial goals helps direct financial planning. Examples of financial goals are: "To retire at age 50 with a personal net worth of $800,000 American," or "To buy a house in 3 years paying a monthly mortgage servicing cost that is no more than 25% of my gross income". It is not uncommon to have several goals, some short term, and some long term. Read more about finance.

Mascots Impact on Corporations May be a Make or Break Situation
2008-04-08 07:00:00
Mascots on a corporate level serve as a way to embody the corporation motto, values, and ideas. An example would be McDonald’s using Ronald McDonald as their symbol to convey they are a fun ...
Why corporations like Clinton, Obama, and Democrats
2008-04-04 05:20:00
Story here. For now, though, Sen. Clinton of New York is leading the way, bringing in at least $6.29 million from the securities and investment industry, compared with $6.03 million for Sen. Obama of Illinois and $2.59 million for McCain, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Those figures include donations from the investment companies' employees and political action committees. And, here. The Republican standard-bearer's attempt to claw back financial support from the GOP's business base could be a pivotal factor in determining the outcome of the presidential race. Employees of financial-services, insurance and real-estate companies so far have donated to Sen. Obama over Sen. McCain by almost two-to-one -- and favored Sen. Clinton by even more. Health-care and pharmaceutical firms have given three times as much to each of the two Democrats as to Sen. McCain. Defense firms put Sen. McCain ahead of Sen. Obama, but behind Sen. Clinton. Energy, construction and agri...

Corporations Get a Deduction for Charitable Donations, Not a Credit
2008-03-07 21:02:00
Some of the biggest sources of charitable donations come from corporations. While a donation made by an individual receives a tax credit, a donation made by a corporation receives an income deduction. Tax credits are different from tax deductions.Let's explain the difference by looking at a few examples. Tax DeductionLet's assume we have an individual who has a marginal tax rate of 40%. If they had a $100 tax deduction, this means they can write off $100 from their income. They would normally have paid $40 in tax on that $100 of income. By having written down their income by $100, they conversely have saved $40 of tax in this case. The value of tax deductions vary according to your marginal tax rate - so they are more valuable to higher income earners.Tax CreditIf this same person has a $100 tax credit, this translates directly into a $100 tax savings. So you can see that $1 of tax credit is worth more than $1 of tax deduction. But note that a $100 charitable donation does no...

Are corporations evil psychopaths?
2008-03-06 03:10:00
Corporations have been hailed as machines of progress by free-marketers and evil psychopathic institutions by environmentalists and many academics. Both statements are true. While corporations are legally treated as individuals, they are not. Corporations do drive progress, largely by creating jobs and conducting R&D. Yet, they also degrade the environemnt, exploit workers and manipulate consumers as well as government policy in their favor. This seemingly paradox effect on society should not come as a suprise. Few human institutions fit neatly into a balck & white - good vs. evil framework. Corporations are both evil pyschopaths and economic godsends. The good news is that with the right type of policy the negative effects of corporate behavior can be minimized and the positive effects maximized. So why are corporations psychopaths? Because they are not people, but institutions who act only - as a matter of fact they have a legal obligation to - in their own interest. In a l...
Should Corporations Have Rights?
2008-02-24 00:39:00
Noam Chomsky provides an interesting discussion on the matter. He suggests that the idea of corporations having “rights” is only recent. They aren’t listed in the Constitution, are most often a tool for tyranny, their “rights” were achieved through courts and lawyers, the legal system was reshaped to give them power, and they are at the roots of fascism. There is no reason for them to exist.

I recently discovered a fantastic non-profit group called Parents for Ethical Marketing. According to their website, PEM is...? is a new grassroots organization of parents and others concerned about corporate marketing practices directed at young children." They have some sobering statistics about the media and raising kids on their homepage, and they have an exciting opportunity for parents to give their feedback to companies who make, sell and market products to our children. Apparently, PEM was contacted by a representative from Vision Conscious Brands, which represents corporations who are interested in having a positive social impact. They want to hear from parents about product safety, toy recalls, and other environmental, social and economic issues we are concerned about. To read the call to action on PEM's website, click here. You'll see questions from Shari Aaron of Vision Conscious Brands, and at the bottom you can write your answers as comments on the blog, or ema...

Teleconferencing services not only for corporations
2008-02-06 19:54:00
In the course of the last decade, the teleconferencing landscape has changed significantly. It used to be the case that only larger sized corporations had access to multi party teleconferencing systems. These systems were typically quite expensive and often had live operator participation on each call.Incumbent telecommunications companies priced conference calling services at exorbitant rates (e.g twenty five cents plus per minute per user) and most corporations were willing to pay these charges to guarantee reliable and quality services. Now in recent years the market has seen a flurry of competitive forces. Several factors have been responsible including telecommunications deregulation, significant improvements in internet technology and demand for improved offerings. The competitive landscape now consists of seemingly countless providers in addition to the incumbent bell operating companies. Organizations and individuals that desire to use teleconferencing now have a far wider me...
