Counterpoint: Why Twitter is Great
2008-05-30 19:38:00 So yeah, I sent Eric the link to Loren Feldman’s rant on Twitter. The truth is, I too am a huge 1938 Media fan and have been for awhile now. How did I find out about Loren’s videos you may ask? On Twitter, of course. Sure, Twitter can be annoying. Lately it has been down more than ...

The Philly Infield, Point/Counterpoint
2008-02-15 12:31:00 Let me start by saying, I received an email from Rudy Gamble saying we should do a feature where we breakdown the Philly infield – like a point/counterpoint. I said -- Ok, point/counterpoint needs controversy, where’s the controversy with the Philly infield? Feels kinda obvious. Then he emailed me saying we should do a feature where we breakdown the Philly infield and he’d use his newfangled

Counterpoint: The Gujarat paradoxes- Hindustan Times
2007-12-08 23:12:00 Counterpoint: The Gujarat paradoxes- Hindustan TimesVir Sanghvi concludes his usual anti-Modi rant with the following:Even if this costs the Congress the election, it is a price worth paying. Who would respect the Congress if it defeated Modi but adopted his policies and took the help of his former partymen? If the Congress betrays the values that it represents, then it will become a party that stands for nothing except for a lust for power. Better for the Congress to lose an election than to lose its soul.[Excerpts only - full article at the source]Comments: Perhaps some day Vir Sanghvi will write about the wonderful values that Congress represents. Please do mention pseudo-secularism, castism, corruptions and all else that you as an eminent journalist would have undoubtably observed!

Point : Counterpoint
2007-07-20 00:00:00 Here's a thoughtful counterpoint to my support of the Bass Pro project as currently proposed, written by Todd Mitchell of the Preservation Coalition, together with my replies: Are public subsidies of retail a good investment in economic development? Can Bass Pro be a ?retail destination,? and so draw visitors to the ...

Counterpoint: Gun Control Does Not Stop Violence
2007-05-30 14:07:00 ?Everybody`s first reaction to the massacre at Virginia Tech was one of shock and sorrow, but, for some, what followed that initial reaction was an angry and ridiculous call for more gun-control,? writes Matthew Thomas Gross. ?If you were one such person, who believes that tragedies like the one at Virginia Tech would be stopped ...

An Elevator Counterpoint
2007-05-10 09:16:00 3 p.m. yesterday. I’m heading out the door. I’m one of those early arrivers, early departers. I get to work at about 6:30 a.m. and I leave at about 3 p.m. For one thing, traffic between here and home isn’t nearly as bad in the early mornings and early afternoons. For another thing, there’s always room in the parking garage when I get here. If you wait until a more reasonable hour – say, 8 a.m. – you’ll be lucky to find a spot in the parking garage. And it’s a long walk to the other parking lots on the campus. So I blow this pop stand every day around 3-ish. I’m standing at the elevator when a colleague walks up behind me. This is someone I see from time to time, we are on a first name basis but have never really been what one would call conversational acquaintances. Still, when you’re waiting for an elevator, ya gotta say something. “Makin’ a break for it?” I asked. “Yeah, getting out of here early tod...
Sock Puppet: Point and Counterpoint
2007-05-03 16:50:00 I’ve been a quiet observer for much of the debate on the real estate blogs, but finally have decided to step into the fray in defense of my good friend Athol Kay. The fact is, and I respectfully disagree with him on his point, he takes the view of accipere quam facere praestat injuriam in these matters. He won’t defend himself, but as a friend, I feel I have to step in and say something. What imputes upon me so to action you ask? Namely this glaring pre-emptive strike in none other than the otherwise fine and respectable journal of Sellsius. After his comments on a post here, apparently he looms so large in the minds of Sellsius he was defended against directly in the follow up post itself. “Note to Athol: Yes, we’ve all worked over Zillow enough to get what it is and is not. But have the masses?” In the interests of plenus promptum, yes indeed Athol has received a Zillow T-Shirt, 2 bumper stickers, an awkward notepad and a variety o...

New Counterpoints book on baptism
2007-03-05 23:17:00 Some of my old Church of Christ friends who check up on me here from time to time might be interested to know that Zondervan has just published another book in its Counterpoints series. This one is Understanding 4 Views on Baptism, and one of the views is supposed to represent a Christian Church/Church of Christ perspective. I've found this series by Zondervan to be quite helpful in the past, if for no other reason than we so rarely get to see multiple views clash directly in a respectful and academic way. If you're interested in this topic, check it out.

The Truth About Cars: Shelby GT500 - Counterpoint
2006-12-02 21:31:02 Robert Farago hits a home run with a very well written counterpoint about the Shelby GT500. He obviously knows his stuff and is an enthusiastic and experienced driver. The article starts with "a small bump in the road" - and that says it all. Don't hit one if you know what is good (and safe) for you. Solid rear axles are an anachronism from the last century (and solid front axles - once commonplace, are now gone from everything but the oldest truck models). And then there is the engineering hangover all-too common in this century: a ponycar that weighs 4000 pounds (morbidly obese). Couple that with the classic SVT engineering "expertiese" (overheating Cobras and Ford GTs that can't do a serious HPDE without blowing their cooling) and you have a real winner for car nuts who don't have the experience to backup their (over-)enthusiasm. Fortunately, SVT has been cancelled from the face of the earth (its engineers split amoungst development tea... |
