Should Teams Stop Players From Representing Their Countries?
2009-08-20 15:20:00
The Dallas Mavericks are one of many teams that have not allowed their players from playing for their respective countries this summer. Dirk Nowitzki wasn't allowed to represent Germany, while J.J. Barea wasn't allowed to play for Puerto Rico. This issue creeps up with teams all the time.I'm going to tackle it from a team and players standpoint, then give my thoughts on it.If I pay guys millions of dollars to play basketball, why risk fatigue or injury for something that doesn't affect what your team's doing? That's how owners think. They think more about what it does for their endeavor, rather than the players themselves.I think of the case of Zydrunas Ilgauskas. A couple years back, he wanted to play for Lithuania. The Cavs declined because of his long injury history. While Z is now healthy for the most part, I'm sure the Cavs would still not allow it. That's just how these teams are with guys that get hurt. But then you look at what the Spurs and Lakers have done. The Spur...
India Among The Top 10 Countries Using Twitter - Sysomos Report
2009-07-21 06:40:00
Everyone obviously cares about Twitter. If the recent media rage Techcrunch caused by revealing confidential Twitter documents was anything to go by, anything Twitter is now news. We recently told you how Twitter planned to hit a whopping 1 billion users by 2013. Twitter seems to have big plans, but it also seems to be going through an indentity crisis. From discussing varied monetization plans to Google, Microsoft, other Twitter-based acquisitions to modifications to the RT (Retweet), the Twitter Management covered several features, including the problems Facebook was causing it and how to ensure that the Employees are happy. The discussion also raised concerns on overloading Twitter with too much. Techcrunch’s article though is here. In the report, it also mentions how Google wanted stats on Twitter, but Twitter was reluctant to provide it, and instead gave a growth report with constrained facts. Given the amount of secrecy that the Twitter management wants to protect, (incl...

Asian countries halt Chinese milk imports
2008-09-21 19:20:00
From Radio Netherlands WorldwideBrunei, Malaysia and Bangladesh have halted imports of Chinese milk products following a similar move by Singapore earlier this week. The measures are the result of the melamine scandal which has claimed the lives of four babies in China. More than 6,000 babies fell ill after drinking formula milk contaminated with the industrial chemical melamine. The Chinese authorities are trying to limit the damage by strict inspections and massive recalls. The European Union has introduced additional inspections although no suspect Chinese milk products are being sold there. The US authorities are also concerned about possible public health risks. Adults are less likely to be affected.[Read more]

Our Country Doesn’t Appear in the List of Home Exchange Countries
2008-06-10 15:33:00
Occasionally we receive emails and phone calls from potential home exchangers who are interested in joining ExchangeHomes.com, but are reluctant to do so because they cannot find their country included in the list of Countries, either in the Quick Search on the Home Page, or on the Detailed Search page. If there is currently no listing for a particular country, then quite correctly, that Country doesn’t show up in either of the Country Search Lists. However, immediately a member registers their membership from a country not currently represented, and enters details for both the relevant continent and country on the Registration Form, when the listing is saved to our database, the country in question instantly appears in the Country List. Similarly, we have been contacted by members and visitors to the web site who have been exploring the listings and noted one in an otherwise not represented country. They’ve returned for another look only to find that the country is no l...

Never Felt Better - Love Stories from all countries A 2 Z
2008-06-04 23:07:00
Never Felt Better The following is a courtroom exchange between a defense attorney and a farmer with a bodily injury claim. It came from a Houston, Texas insurance agent. Attorney: "At the scene of the accident, did you tell the constable you had never felt better in your life?" Farmer: "That's right." Attorney: "Well, then, how is it that you are now claiming you were seriously injured when my client's auto hit your wagon?" Farmer: "When the constable arrived, he went over to my horse, who had a broken leg, and shot him. Then he went over to Rover, my dog, who was all banged up, and shot him. When he asked me how I felt, I just thought under the circumstances, it was a wise choice of words to say I've never felt better in my life. ---   --- Love Stories from all Cities and countries A to Z ---<--{(@ Visit Sweden my beautiful country! ---<--{(@ Hotel Discounts and Travel Savings ---<--{(@ List of Pr...

The United Nations reports "New global ban on cluster bombs will save millions of young lives".Unfortunately the United States of America is not one of the 111 countries agreeing to ban a weapon that has long been a civilian killer.Forgein Policy in Focus calls the decisin by the U.S. government a "A Cluster of Fallacies". Read the article to see the reasons that our government officials offer. It is beyond discouraging.Children in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Laos, and Iraq are still seeing the destruction that these horrible weapons cause. Many of these explosives remain on the ground--having not yet detonated. A child, playing in the field, runs near one, and--BOOM--there goes a limb, or a life.

God is in joking mood - Love Stories from all countries A to Z
2008-05-30 15:56:00
God is in joking mood...     A man was praying to god. He said, "God?" God responded, " Yes?" And the Guy said, " Can I ask a question?" "Go right ahead", God said. "God, what is a million years to you?" God said, "A million years to me is only a second." The man wondered. Then he asked, "God, what is a million dollars worth to you?" God said, "A million dollars to me is a penny." So the man said, " God can I have a penny?" Best Countries to Open an Offshore Bank Account Posted By : Amy Nutt
2008-05-30 04:29:00
Having an offshore bank account means saving tax dollars and some may have other reasons behind it. Many graduates think that the six months they have before the required scheduled repayment of their various college debts seems like forever. The six months is nothing compared to the years and years of payments ahead of you. A consolidation of student loans can make the monthly much less painful. Read more about finance and student loans.

Rising Fuel Prices - A Concern For All Countries In The World
2008-05-29 18:04:00
The fuel prices are increasing. This is a cause of concern for all the countries in the world, while the inflation rates are at their peak. Commodities have become so expensive and its really difficult to manage the expenses these days. On top of this, a hike in fuel prices would be an additional burden on the pocket of a common man.In the midst of the confusion and prevailing worries about fuel price hike, major fuel producing nation Saudi Arabia has said that they have boosted the oil supply in view of global demand for oil. According to an OPEC source, "The majority of OPEC producers definitely don't like this high oil price because it is neither in their interest nor in the interest of the global economy, and it's especially painful for the developing world." U.S. crude hit a record above $135 a barrel last week, prompting consumer countries such as the United States to renew their plea for more oil from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. The news that OPEC...

No Surprise, Japan is one of the safest countries in the World
2008-05-29 00:09:00
The Global Peace Index or GPI is a yearly ranking of countries via various peace indicators. The list is compiled by Visionofhumanity.org and ranks grades countries on everything from yearly murder rate to relations with neighboring countries and even military expenditure as a percentage of a countries gross domestic product. Japan is ranked as the fifth most peaceful country in the world right behind Iceland, Denmark, Norway and New Zealand and is followed by Ireland, Portugal, Finland, Luxembourg and Austria - which completes the top 10. Where is Jamaica on the list? Out of the 140 countries ranked in 2008 Jamaica is all the way down at number 96, I'll be honest no surprise there. The surprise though came when I realized that we are ranked higher that the United States and Caribbean neighbors Trinidad and Tobago who are grappling with a series of child murders recently - the most recent being an 8 year old...very very sad.

How the two countries presented their claims
2008-05-24 00:42:00
How the two countries presented their claims  The dispute pitted Malaysia’s claim of original title to the island against Singapore’s claim of taking lawful possession in 1847, and continuous exercise of sovereignty ever since   Malaysia’s arguments Malaysia’s legal case rested on its claim that the Sultanate of Johor possessed title to the island since its establishment in 1512. That original title was then transmitted to the State of Johor, and subsequently to the Federation of Malaya, which Johor joined in 1948. Malaysia quoted from historical writings, including the Malay Annals, which described the Johor Sultanate as extending from the Natunas Islands in the north to the Riau Islands in the south. It argued that that demarcation placed Pedra Branca, or Pulau Batu Puteh as Malaysia calls the island, in the centre of Johor’s ancient maritime empire. Therefore, it said, the island was always part of Johor. To explain Singapore’s presence on th...
