Cook County Jail inmate sues for slip and fall while working in kitchen
2009-11-03 00:04:00 An inmate in the Cook County Jail is suing the sheriff after she slipped and fell on grease while working in the kitchen of the jail. Toshiba Williams says that, while she was an inmate and assigned to the kitchen as a laborer at the Cook County Jail, she was carrying a large pot of hot oatmeal when she slipped and fell on an accumulation of grease on the floor. The pot of hot oatmeal fell on her face, burning her in the face and causing severe and permanent burns, the complaint states. Williams asserts that the sheriff and his employees and agents were negligent when they "required Toshiba, who is less than 5 feet tall and under 100 pounds, to lift...
Collin County Real Estate - September Update
2009-10-21 21:37:00 Collin County Update Here's a look at Collin County results for September. The most positive thing about this is prices have fallen very little compared to other regions in the country. Still a buyers market, but inventory levels are down 21.1% from a year ago and with mortgage rates lower it presents a wonderful buying window right now. To be honest, I don't know how long the low rates will last because they have been low for so long...that will change. I don't have a crystal ball but timing is crucial. If you're ready to buy the timing is excellent. If you're ready to sell the inventories are low and this presents a good time to consider your options. Economic Tsunami Predicted in Mc Henry County
2009-09-18 19:55:00 Its bad news for those predicting an end to the slump-down of the foreclosures that had taken the sheen off most major industries, including real estate. Mc Henry County is poised to take an economic beating according to experts like Paul Hespen who is a broker with Prudential First Realty.-according to him job losses are at the root of the problem, more than the Sub-prime Crisis that had really snowballed into an economic slowdown the world over. The problem of foreclosures reared its ugly head once again this year and it has already outdone itself than last year according to findings from the Mc Henry County Circuit Clerk. In April and May, the government took initiatives to manage the Foreclosure problem, but the government’s stance was short sighted as people who had taken housing loans with modified schemes are also facing the brunt of it. Official records put the foreclosure figure at 1600+ this year compared to about 1436 in 2008. As any economist would tell you that a rise...

Collin County Foreclosure Facts
2009-09-10 22:05:00 Collin County Foreclosure Facts A client called yesterday and wanted some foreclosure info to help fight property tax increases, the criteria went something like this: can you do a search for all sold foreclosures in Collin County this year by Fannie Mae? The answer is yes, I can do by seller type: as in foreclosure but to break it down by owner type is difficult because this is not an input field that every listing agent fills in. So we broke it down to all foreclosures sold in Collin County since 2009 and all prices. Can you guess the number? Don't think you'll be surprised.... 1172 units have sold in Collin County. When I ran the report today 10 more had closed. Yes, friends that world is fast and furious. 68% of these properties are under $200K. But there are some upper end gems out there. Over $500K represents 2.2% of the sold inventory. Just to give you another idea of the break neck activity, there are only 201 active foreclos...

Review: DURHAM COUNTY
2009-09-07 14:07:00 By: Aleks Chan Like many a crime procedural, the opening scene is of a discernibly older man, with two much younger girls (extra creepy points if they’re in their school uniforms) in a secluded forest. If our basic detective skills cultivated by cable crime fighters (and DATELINE) have taught us anything, the girls won’t be turning in their homework the next day. But the sadistic way the girls meet their fate is gruesome – you’re never this uncomfortable when you watch CSI. Through the branches and wood is a focused, studying eye – a witness to a double murder, the trembling figure leaves one of the girls’ plead for help unanswered. Before the bodies are discovered and an investigation is launched, the body of a schoolteacher washes up bludgeoned in the same fashion. That wandering eye was Ray Prager’s (Justin Louis), and when he’s not screaming at his wife or belittling his son, he’s moonlighting as a serial killer. This isn’t DEXTER, Showtime’s thriller ...

Hugh Dillon rocks 2 roles in 'Durham County,' 'Flashpoint&ap
2009-09-04 17:02:00 Hugh Dillon plays a detective whose secret life collides with his work in "Durham County." ION photo Hugh Dillon will never star in a TV series that's half as interesting as the life he's led. The Canadian, who is known best in the U.S. as ace cop Ed Lane on CBS' "Flashpoint," first gained fame--and infamy--as the lead singer of a "not-very-nice rock band" called The Headstones in the 1990s. Dillon and the multi-platinum band imploded after six albums, years of heroin abuse and living, well, angry. "To have such a dramatic fall from grace, in my case both personally and professionally--everything--you- have to kind of start from scratch and rebuild your life," Dillon told me during a recent...

Sherman asks Gov. Quinn about extending Route 53 through Lake County
2009-08-13 02:07:00 Tomorrow (Thursday, August 13th), Governor Quinn will be holding a 2 p.m. news conference to address issues pertaining to the Illinois Tollway. I've been invited to the news conference. I don't do ambush interviews, where I ask a question that the speaker may not be prepared to answer. I'd rather have the speaker do some research and provide me with an answer that addresses my question. I've submitted, in advance through Pat Quinn's top press aide, a question regarding the long-awaited extension of Route 53 from near Buffalo Grove through Lake County. I asked the press aide the following question, and communicated to him the following premises upon which the question is asked:...

Santana says legalize it; should Cook County?
2009-07-22 20:19:00 Wow! No jail time for marijuana possessors with less than 10 grams - in unincorporated Cook County. Aggressive, but this will free up the court system. A $200 fine on pot puts weed in the same category as speeding tickets. Carlos Santana hits the sustain pedal and calls for decriminalization and so does Commissioner Earlean Collins. The Cook County Board is pushing for this to relieve jail strain, and to put cash in the county. Presdient Stroger may veto the measure, but if not, just carry 9.9 grams with you at all times. If you smoke in your home, no worries...if you smoke elsewhere, remember the 9.9 rule. I'm not "rah rah" on legalizing controlled substances, but if cigarettes, cigars, and alcohol...

A neighbor, who you may or may not have met before, offers to let you come back and drink with him at his place when the bartender won't serve you any more. You agree. Once you get back to the neighbor's place you pass out. You wake up, and the friendly neighbor is now brandishing a dagger and trying to sexually assault you. Question: do you grab the dagger and stab your attacker in self-defense:a) a couple of times, enough to get away and run for help,b) 5 or 10 times, can't remember because you were terrified,c) 15 or 20 times--the first 5 or 10 stabs...

2009-07-14 03:48:00 Filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County today...A suit by Cook County itself, against Suburban Cook County Regional Office of Education and Superintendent Charles Flowers, alleging that they engaged in "a scheme to defraud Cook County" by taking out a loan they knew they could not repay. In June 2008, the defendants loaned $190,000 interest-free from Cook County, indicating that they could pay the money back as early as November 2008, upon securing state funding. When Cook County sought repayment in November, it received no response. Six months later, in May, the county tried again and sent another letter.
