Crab Catcher - La Jolla , San Diego
2009-05-07 07:59:00
Crab Catcher in La Jolla, San Diego, back in 2008. We kinda had a hard time getting inside the restaurant. It was hard for us to find. Inside the restaurant was very dark and moody.Since this was almost a year ago, I hardly remember, but I don't think it was that great. Food was OK, but not amazing or wanna go back many times. Crab cake and bisque were just OK, I had better ones before in many other places. I wish the surf & turf had more sauce (not butter). But food seems to be fresh. On the menu, they describe each seafood and where they caught it on each day. Also the food arrived slow. breadFire Shrimp $14Serrano seared prawns, Thai basil potatoCrab Bisque $10Roasted bell pepper-shrimp brothCrab Cake Royal $14Lump meat crab cake, sweet onion charred tomato relish, whole grain mustard remoulade.Crab Catcher Surf & Turf Mix Grill Plate $45 (market price)sorbet $6I think it was passion fruitRating (food): 3.5 / 5Rating (service): 4 / 5Repeat: Maybehttp://www.crabcatcher.co.-..

Although it takes a few days, the crab spider can change it's body colour to match it's background. They can appear white (as above), yellow or green. They sometimes have two faint red lines running along the abdomen. Impressive little show offs.

T is for Turnip,Crab and Leek Pasties
2008-05-24 06:59:00
Most parents when they cook a meal and present it to their children only ever have to see one or maybe two people grimace and say "yeeuuck!" But there is a man who lives in Gateshead, in the North East of England, who faces a chorus of screwed up faces every day of his working life. And he deserves a medal (or at least a stiff drink). David Hall works with school children as a demonstration chef, introducing them to fresh food, real cooking and new tastes. He sent Freddie a recipe for Turnip, Crab and Leek Pasties. And there wasn't a grimace in sight when I made them. This was a straight ten out of ten, "are there any seconds?" and let's fight over the last pastie. Thank you David - this takes turnip to new heights! Pinoy Bloggers And Their Stupid Crab Mentality
2008-05-07 07:13:00
For Filipinos, crab mentality describes a way of thinking best described by the phrase….“if i can’t have it, neither can you”. It’s a metaphor referring to crabs in a bucket in which, one of them struggles to get to the top but instead is being pulled down by other crabs that are also trying to get to the top. Now, some may think crab mentality is normal as it implies healthy competition between people. Which is in fact, completely normal. But in more ways than one, it is more destructive than normal, especially if you unintentionally outdo another at the other’s expense. A sad reality it is, as it shows lack of unity among us Pinoys. I, myself have experienced being ignored and denied by a fellow Pinoy blogger. You know, starting out as a newbie in the blogosphere is a struggle and one of the first few things you wanted to accomplish is gain new friends. One day I was dropping Entrecard and I discovered this Pinoy blogger who is also in the fie...

Crab Stuffed Crumbed Chicken
2008-04-22 08:34:00
I have not tried a recipezaar members recipe in awhile so I thought I would make one last night. This was excellent, like the chef who made it, I used fresh crab meat in mine so I can not comment on how it would taste with canned or imitation. I also made a hollandaise sauce to go with but it was so not needed, I thought it might be a little dry, hence the sauce, but the chicken was moist and tender and it was a great crunchy coating. I did use panko flakes (Japanese breadcrumbs) instead of regular I just prefer them they always come out nice and crisp. If you want to view the original recipe or want to see other recipes by this chef please click here.If you have read the earlier post I wrote on the natural cutting boards I brought back from OZ you can find a description with a couple of photos under my natures cutting boards page. I will be uploading more photos once I can get something nice as a backing to make them stand out. I will also let you know the separate web address for ...

S is for Samphire and Crab Tart
2008-03-18 06:33:00
?half-way downlies one that gathers samphire, dreadful trade!?(King Lear)Hundreds of years ago samphire gatherers risked their lives to pick strands of the rarer rock samphire. At times, children were tied with rope and dangled over the cliff edge. This is the ?dreadful trade? that Shakespeare refers to in King Lear. On Monday morning, with a day off work, I went to find marsh samphire. I wasn't hanging from the edge of a cliff but the route was almost as perilous. And that is because on Monday morning the pavements of West London are covered in unwanted furniture. In the half mile walk between home and the fishmongers I had to climb round enough furniture and fittings to furnish a small mansion. Two velour sofas, three dining chairs, a kitchen table, four rolled up carpets, a couple of standard lamps and a bedside table later I arrived at the fishmongers and bought my samphire which came from Mexico. Back through the forest of dumped furniture, which was now decorated by dog dirt,...

Crab Fishing in Alaska ? Fishing for Riches
2008-03-08 06:30:00
No it isn?t Bill Gates. It isn?t the diamond merchants of South Africa or the oil barons of Saudi Arabia either. The world?s highest paid job is crab fishing in Alaska. The frigid waters off the Alaskan shoreline house a veritable fishing goldmine and crab fishing in Alaska has been aptly dubbed the last great gold rushes on earth.Crab fishing is the most significant of the Alaskan commercial shellfish industries. The waters of Alaska, notably the Bering Sea, Bristol Bay, Dutch Harbor and the Kodiak and Aleutian Islands are home to rich bounties of crabs: tanner, Dungeness and the famed Alaskan King crab. The different varieties of the Alaskan crabs possess immense commercial value and the Alaskan King crab in particular is a prized dish in the culinary world, valued as highly as caviar or vintage French wine. US and Japanese restaurants are the primary importers of Alaskan King crab in the world. An idea of the valuation of crab fishing in Alaska can be garnered from the fact that a ...

Crab Stuffed Ostrich/Beef Fillet with a Peppercorn Sauce
2008-03-05 17:39:00
I went to fish market a couple of weeks back to buy some king crab legs and oysters to make oysters kilpatrick to start followed by crab stuffed ostrich. This is what I had on hand, but this recipe would also work great with beef. Anyway I did not realise how much meat would come from just two legs, and I ended up making crab topped oysters instead of kilpatrick and still had enough to make creamy crab pasta for the kids and still had loads left for the ostrich. Check out the size of them.Huge Crab LegsO.K. so you can see, I got a lot of crab from these puppies, I am going to have to guess the amount of crab I used for the stuffing. The total weight of the legs with shell on was 880 grams, and after removing meat I was able to make three different things, so I did get quite a lot.
