SUSHI DREAMS
2011-12-12 18:22:00 85 year-old, Jiro Ono, is Japan's greatest sushi chef. He is the only chef to have ever received three Michelin Stars for his craft. Now his son (and understudy) is preparing to follow the same path. There's honor, there's passion, and there's pressure--three intriguing themes that lace filmmaker, David Gelb's, Jiro Dreams Of Sushi, slated for release in March of 2012.

Scenes from a craft fair
2011-09-13 16:36:00 Overheard at Renegade Craft Fair this weekend: Girl, in reference to her tattoo: “No, it’s actually a zombie puking up candy.” Guy, to girlfriend: “That reminds me of this podcast I listen to…” Girl, to friend: “I’m sick of sitting on all this money.” Mother, to son: “Look, Emerson, his tie is made out of... Top Chicago craft beer designs
2011-08-02 11:51:00 On Monday the Chicago Tribune reported Frank Thomas’ new brew ‘Big Hurt Beer’ will be hitting Chicago shelves in August. Since Chicago is known for it’s affinity for imbibing I decided it was about time that hometown craft brew label design gets some recognition. The craft brew movement is currently in full stride and Chicago...
Chicago Craft Beer Week closing events, Friday, May 27
2011-05-26 05:43:00 I hope everyone has survived to the end of this town's biggest beer event. I've been reading more about problems with the CCBW Passports, in that they didn't really offer much in the way of discounts. But restricting admission to Passport holders made the events "private parties" in the eyes of the Three-Tier Distribution law, so the venues can offer beers that aren't yet available in Chicago...
Chicago Craft Beer Week events, Thursday, May 26
2011-05-25 04:57:00 The much-longer-than-seven-days Chicago Craft Beer Week, sponsored by the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild only slows down slightly today before the big finish on Friday. As usual, I'm listing all events going on this day, and noting the ones that require a CCBW Passport. Some bars were listed in the article for last Thursday's opening events, and even for the May 16 launch of American Craft Beer Week, when their listings involved weeklong specials or food pairings. However, the CCBW site's own Twitter feed is fielding complaints over these bars closing off for private events and refusing to offer the "bottle caps" for the Passports. Caveat Cervesor.
Chicago Craft Beer Week events, Wednesday, May 25
2011-05-24 05:30:00 Chicago Craft Beer Week shows no signs of slowing down. Many of these events were just announced Monday, as I'm writing this up! Again, the official CCBW events may require use of the CCBW Passport, and I've tried to indicate the ones that do. Others are hanger-on events, or regularly-scheduled events that just happen to fall during CCBW.
Chicago Craft Beer Week events, Tuesday, May 24
2011-05-23 07:03:00 I have 30-count 'em-30 events on the calendar, and not all of them are officially tied in the Chicago Craft Beer Week. An article by the Chicago Tribune's Josh Noel notes that in order to get on the event list, bars had to pay a $250 fee and get a stack of Passports to hawk. And they don't quite have the prize list set for collecting "bottle caps" on the passport anyway.

Chicago-American Craft Beer Week events, Saturday May 21
2011-05-19 06:12:00 Saturday's CCBW includes Beerfly Alleyfight, Disc Golf, tours, tastings, cheese & bacon. I guess a lot of people may be expecting to be taken up by "The Rapture" today. If you want some advice, please consider: The cheesy posters I've seen at Zondervan show the "saved" drifting through the sky with no clothes on. That looks like a long, cold ride. You may be glad you had a good beer in your hand at the right moment. Or a large coffee.
Chicago Craft Beer Week events - Friday, May 20
2011-05-18 05:53:00 Chicago Craft Beer Week is off and running, sponsored by the Illinois Craft Brewers' Guild. This is a companion to American Craft Beer Week, sponsored by the Brewers Association. I just lumped all the beer related events for today into this column, including some that weren't intended as official Beer Week events. Please note that most CCBW events are free to attend, but some may limit attendance to those bearing Beer Week passports. Most participating establishments will sell you a passport on-site for $10. And check the "Recent Posts" box below for events on other days!

American Craft Beer Week starts, Chicago's to follow
2011-05-15 07:07:00 It's perhaps the busiest time on the craft beer calendar, the double-header that is American Craft Beer Week and Chicago Craft Beer Week. First, there's American Craft Beer Week, observed May 16 - 22 by the Brewers Association, the national non-profit association on behalf of the majority of today's U.S. breweries.

Solar Airship - 8 Meter Long Floating Craft Doesn't Require Wind
2011-03-06 20:32:00 Kites Dissapoint, Solar Airships Do NotKites can oftentimes be a great disappointment - if there's no wind, you can't fly a kite. If there's too much wind, you can't fly a kite. If you don't own a kite, you can't fly a kite. I've learned that one just cannot rely on a kite for a good time. That's why I'm recommending the Solar Airship, an 8 meter Long Floating Craft that requires nothing except the sun! This gadget is made of a special material that absorbs the sun's energy. It takes this heat and uses it to inflate the Solar Airship - much like a hot air balloon. For only $15, you can own this cool eco-friendly gadget. This cool...

Don't forget to craft an advent calendar! C'mon, it's easy.
2010-12-03 04:25:00 Seven hundred twenty seven. That's how many strips of construction paper I just cut by hand so the little chillens at my Christmas play group tomorrow will have supplies to make advent chains. And look, I still have energy left in my fingers for TYPING. Unfortunately, that is the only exercise I did today. Back to the chains. Here's what you do: Get a piece of green paper and a piece of red. Use a fat fingernail file (or be Real and use a ruler) as your guide and cut the paper into strips. You'll need eleven of each color since starting tomorrow morning there will be 22 days till Christmas. Then just glue them into rings, all connected, and lop...

The Ultimate Beer Run: This weekend's Hoptacular showcases craft brews
2010-06-04 21:11:00 On The Chaser's agenda for tonight: a little something called the Beer Hoptacular, at Uptown's Aragon Ballroom. I plan to use this event to, um, soak up (ha! ha ha!) as much beer expertise as possible in an attempt to overcome my chronic beer-ordering anxiety, which often leaves me stammering or nearly speechless when confronted with the question: "You want a beer? What kind?"The Beer Hoptacular (don't you love it when two words combine to such cheerful effect? Though in this instance, it's hard not to immediately picture the Easter Bunny) promises to celebrate the art of beer with demonstrations from craft and home brewers, food from local artisans, Q&A sessions with beer journalists and bloggers, and voting for the Beer Hoptacular...

Post Craft Brewers Conference- Thank God it's over
2010-04-23 20:22:00 Well as you can probably tell from the title of my blog, the CBC/World Beer cup is over and I'm happy and relieved. It was an incredibly busy week but it went very well. Got to see a lot of old freinds and made a few new ones. We were also extremely happy because (drumroll) &nb-sp; &nbs-p; WE WON A MEDAL!!! Top Heavy hefeweizen won its 5th national/international medal. Making it one of the most medaled Hefeweizens in the country. And some more good news, it's gonna be on tap in a week or so. So to anyone reading this come into piece now for our last batch of Dunkelweiss (a slightly darker more full bodied version of the style. Also a multiple medal...

Tricks aren't just for Kids at Vale Craft Gallery
2009-09-10 04:38:00 Review by Claire Haasl Steve Rebora's Magic Show inserts a bit of humor into the gallery scene this Friday, so if you're looking for a not-so-serious exhibition make sure to stop in at the Vale Craft Gallery in River North. There you will be greeted by multiple hat-box-sized wooden sculptures of a "magic" rabbit who pops out of a magician's hat all on his own. The rabbit, Rebora states, "represents such a twist" because he is no longer the subject of the trick and has become the magician. These light-hearted sculptures may also represent Rebora's own joy in becoming the artist...
