Collected weekly by Stephanie Burke On my recent road trip through California, Oregon, and Washington, I stopped and visited the B Reactor at Hanford, Washington.  Lots of talk of Fermi and the University of Chicago on the tour, so this week our intrepid gallery crawler bears on his back Nuclear Energy, a bronze sculpture by Henry Moore, located on the campus of the University of Chicago at the location of Chicago Pile-1, the world's first nuclear reactor.  ...
The Weekly Gallery Crawl: DIY Edition (5/20-5/22)
2011-05-18 13:00:00
Have you ever noticed that little paragraph at the bottom of the weekly gallery crawl? That paragraph that says "Thanks to..."? Well, those are all the places, along side my facebook account and my press release email, that I search to build the gallery crawl. This weekend, I will be road-tripping through California, Oregon, and Washington, and Jeriah will be at Milcop, so neither of us will be around to make the gallery crawl. Fear not, for you can find below everywhere you need to check to find out about openings (as well as get a better understanding of all the junk I have to wade through each week to build the crawl for ya'll)...  ...

Mustache Crawl to Raise Money For Children's Hospital
2011-04-26 22:47:00
The weather is somewhat getting better here in the city of Chicago which means that a lot of people will start working out to get in shape. The weather will be good for walking, jogging and running however, for those of us that despise these actions, we rather crawl. When I hear the word crawl, I think about getting out of bed of forcing myself to go to work. If you put the word "bar" in front of crawl then a lot of great memories come to mind. The good people over at Chi Life events asked me to make you, The People, aware of many things to come in the next few months and one of them is this great...
6th Annual Three-Legged Bar Crawl Raises $30,000 MXN
2011-04-11 18:56:00
On April 10, 2011, Playa del Carmen residents and visitors gathered together to participate in one the region's best loved events, the annual Three-Legged Bar Crawl to support the Bomberos of Quintana Roo. This year, marks the 6th running of this event. A record 16 teams strapped themselves together for this fun-filled race through the busy streets of this seaside city encouraged by the cheers of onlookers and event sponsors. Organized by Brian Borjesson and a team of volunteers, the three legged race is held every year to raise funds for the firefighters. Borjesson is the President of both the Bomberos de la Riviera Maya A.C. and Patronato de Protección Civil para la Riviera Maya A.C. two organizations instrumental in providing much needed support to our regional fire departments. As Comandante of the Bomberos, he has donated his time and his expertise to help ensure the safety of Riviera Maya residents by securing equipment and training for firefighters throughou...

Creepy Crawl
2010-08-31 01:34:00
I'm just tearing through the old-school paperbacks these days.#42 -- "The Haunting of Hill House" by Shirley JacksonAnother one dredged up from the teen years. This is a masterpiece of never-quite-seen horrors -- nothing's ever seen head on and there is considerable question as to what the origin really is. I read most of this at home alone last night, and once the lights went out I became acutely aware of every creak and bump in my building -- and when my neighbor bumped something against the connecting wall between our units, I achieved levitation, my friends.
Graduation Bar Crawl
2010-08-20 19:13:00
So last night was my last night of graduate school and it called for a celebration. As soon as class ended I ran home, dropped off my backpack, got dressed and headed out to begin the festivities. Having it be not only my last night of grad school, but also my last post to Chicagonow I figured I needed to go out with a bang so I covered lots of ground last night.I live next to the East Bank Club so after getting ready stop number one was at the closest bar to my apartment, Bull and Bear. (Let me remind you how I am not so great at taking pictures after drink 2, well drink 1 and 2 were...
Playa del Carmen Bar Crawl
2010-08-20 15:00:00
After the fabulous tequila tasting and dinner at Hacienda Tres Rios, Kay Walten (www.Locogringo.com) and I shuttled the group downtown for a short tour of a few of the Playa del Carmen restaurants and bars participating in the Taste of Playa 2010 culinary event. I have to admit, we put this together on pretty short notice and I credit our Restaurant Chairperson, Monica Hartlief, with all the organizational work that went into the evening. Special thanks to Casona de los Vinos, Ula Gula, Wicky's and The Dirty Martini Lounge for welcoming in the group and treating us all to cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. A Designer's Crawl: Accessories, Art, & Furniture from Venice, CA
2010-08-16 01:18:00
At last, here are pix from my 6-hour walk through Venice, CA storefronts by the Beach.  This is the one of the bestest parts of being an Interior Designer:  discovering wonderful places with unique objects.  These sources are in the same "general category" as the Chicago area showrooms in my last blog post.  But in no way do these dealers in Chicago and LA overlap:  each gallery/store has its own personality, vibe and selection.  And soon I'll add photos from NYC, too.  Next time in LA, I'll crawl around closer to 90210.  What you can find in boutiques, galleries and shops like these will make a house personal and (dare I say) extraordinary.  Even when I won't seriously consider...

Well, this weekend is your chance to prove them wrong!    The 5th Annual Crosstown Classic Bar Crawl moves through Wrigleyville on Saturday (June 26) in honor of Cubs-Sox Part Deux and all proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois.  Whether you root, root, root for the Cubbies or love to cheer on the streaking White Sox, all baseball fans can appreciate a good cause.  Wristbands for the event cost $20 and all money is put towards the organization's $10,000 fundraising goal.  Due to an outpouring of support for this cause, the original $5,000 mark has been surpassed and the bar has been set even higher in hopes of...

Magic Hat Presents World's First Twitter Pub Crawl?
2010-04-16 05:15:00
If it's not the world's first Twitter Pub Crawl, it definitely is Burlington VT's first. And who else but Magic Hat would put on such an event. It's scheduled for April 22, 2010 at 7:00 pm and it is structured as a team event. Throughout the night each four person team will receive clues from Magic Hat via Twitter on which pub to go to. At the end of the night, Magic Hat will check each team to see if they made it to each pub. The names of all the successful teams will be put in a drawing to determine the overall winner. Each person on the winning team gets the top prize of a round trip ticket from JetBlue to wherever the airline flies. All proceeds will go to The Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS). The cost to each team is just $5 per person. Also, the entry price includes one of the coolest looking T-shirts I have seen in a long time. That alone has to be worth a lot more than $5. Round up three other drinkers, er, friends, and help Magic Hat, JetBlue, and COTS with this fir...

Andersonville Dessert Crawl tix still available

The North Side's biggest sugar rush, otherwise known as the Andersonville Dessert Crawl, is just days away. And though it's sold out in years past, tickets were still available as of this afternoon. We don't expect they'll last too much longer (plus, they're cheaper if you buy in advance -- $25 or $40 versus $30 or $55, depending on how much sugar you're planning on consuming) so order yours now or risk being stuck at home eating Oreos from the package on Sunday while the all cool kids gorge for three hours straight on treats from Middle Eastern Bakery, Ann Sather, the Coffee Studio and lots more sweet spots. The crawl kicks off at 2 p.m. Sunday. Details and ticket info. here....

And I've Survived Another Crawl
2008-12-22 16:07:00
The 3rd annual neighbourhood Christmas Crawl was a smashing success. As always, the food and drink was to die for, and the company was even better. Every year the party gets a few households bigger, and even better. I was too busy stuffing my face to get many good pics, but here's a few of my highlights (especially the decadent dessert table at the end).
Crawl Test Minorodeon Effek
2008-11-25 18:25:00
This is a crawl test post. My post title consists words that are not yet available in Google SERPs. This is one of the post to test if your blog is still crawled by Google.com or not. If this post is indexed right after I press the Publish Post button, it simply means that Google Bot and I were friends. But if the contrary happens, it's the end of the world. Minorodeon Effek is a new word that entered my mind 7 seconds ago... 8... 9.. and now 10 seconds ago. Just continue counting if you want to count how many seconds passed since I published this post.EXPERIMENT RESULTS: It's crawled by Google after 1 minute 48 seconds! Slower than usual, but still, it's crawled. ANALYSIS: No Data available in Live and Yahoo yet. Let's see how many hours will take for Yahoo and Live to crawl this post.
Chicago Cupcake Crawl Part 2
2008-11-05 16:52:00
You might remember the first Chicago Cupcake Crawl that took place in February(and if you don't, read it here!). Well, it seems that we missed a few cupcake shops and that some new ones opened up since Sues was last in Chicago. The only solution to that? Go back to Chicago and participate in Cupcake Crawl Part 2. And this time bring Chels along for the sugary ride. Sues's sister, Beth, did her research and had the crawl planned out by the time we arrived in the city.More CupcakesFirst stop on our tour was the newly-opened More. We were pretty excited about More because we heard that they have cupcakes involving bacon. This also scared us just a bit. But we love cupcakes and we love bacon, so score huge, right?More is a really sleek, minimalist store, with basically just cupcakes. There's no seating, but that's okay because we weren't quite ready to eat our cupcakes yet. We got them to go.More also gives you the option of getting a "flight" of mini cupcakes. We loved the packagi...

NYC Zombie Crawl 2008 (#1)
2008-05-25 16:00:00
What better way to scare all those McCarren Park sun-bathers (who will still be in tight black jeans) then by dressing up like a zombie in the middle of spring, imbibing some mid-day booze, and tromping through the neighborhood. The NYC Zombie Crawl is a predecessor to this fall's larger national event. Meet at Duff's early to get your face painted, start drinking shots, and then travel over to Passout Records where the MC Chris Show will entertain you. At 8:30 the zombies (now really walking like zombies from all their drinking) head to Supreme Trading. Be forewarned that there is a (most likely) well-worth it $12 slideshow - and other stuff - here in the back room but if your still on the no-cover route then you can rock out to tunes in the front and keep on drinkin'. 21+ Read More...Digg this | Email to a friend | Reddit

Obama Can?t Crawl Out From Under His BigAzz ?Pastor?

In other words, it took a poll to tell the Post something any untrained monkey could have ...
