Human Breast Milk in Your Ice Cream
2008-10-01 07:00:00 There are strange things in our food. Existing food additives, like high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), are mildly controversial when compared to the newest suggestion – human breast milk. Human milk contains carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals, digestive enzy
Friday Flash..New Haagen Daz Ice Cream Flavours
2008-09-26 15:42:00 Two more new Haagen Dazs flavours that hit the shelves this week in Nagoya.I spotted them in various supermarkets and convenience stores throughout the city. The first is Cafe Mocha, obviously a coffee flavoured icecream. Its fairly light with dashes of chocolate sauce liberally mixed in to boost the amount of caffeine. The second is English Milk Tea and like the Cafe Mocha tastes exactly as described.A thick milky creamy sweet tasting ice cream. It reminded me of the canned Royal Milk tea available here in virtually every corner vending machine. Both these flavours have a certain novelty value but personally I cant see myself going out of my way to buy them again given the other flavours available.

A Spin Thing: Wrinkle cream and SEO
2008-09-25 17:28:00 I went for a drink with a friend of mine recently and she was telling me about an anti-wrinkle cream she had bought (I will not be naming her, she’d kill me!) which turned out to do nothing for wrinkles. Cream Cheese Brownie Pie
2008-09-14 10:00:00 I had another picture of this dessert but half the frame was filled with Andrew's mouth about to chomp down on the slice of pie and he wouldn't let me use it.But it would have been appropriate because the photo really conveyed the intense longing this pie seemed to create around the table when I served it up.Not that it's really surprising--with brownies, pies, cream cheese and chocolate would you expect anything but success?Anyway, I got this recipe from the recent Pillsbury Easy Fabulous Pies Tart and More magazine I mentioned a few weeks back and changed it a bit to fit the ingredients I had on hand. I can firmly state that it was worth every penny and fulfilled every expectation of gastronomical delight. You might want to pick up your own copy--it's been a good buy.1 refrigerated pie crust1 8-ounce package of cream cheese3 tablespoons sugar1 teaspoon vanilla extract3 eggs1 box chocolate cake mix1/4 cup vegetable oil2 tablespoons water1/2 cup chopped walnuts2 cups hot fudge...

Jasmine Tea Ice Cream In Roasted Plum Cups With Sables Cookies
2008-09-09 07:21:00 Eat me quick....I am melting....Thank you all for your concern with the storm. We did get a good bit of rain, enough to make the water come up the hill from the river during the night at high tide but it was all gone by 9am with blue skies, bright sun and scorching heat once more. I woke up at 3am to check the river and the backyard and took Bailey out so he'd let us sleep a little in the morning. Bad mistake...he loves adores water and started doing a little "Dancing In The Rain" number... lovely. Good thing he loves rolling in a towel too, makes our job easier!! Anyway, Hanna turned out to be windy and rainy but nothing compared to the threat that Ike seems to be. Anybody in Ike's path, be safe.Didn't I say a couple of weeks ago with the redcurrant sorbet dessert that it was the last time I was trying to shoot ice cream during summer? Yes, well...either I am a sucker for punishment or I am a sucker for ice cream. Hmm...yes, apparently my love for anything ice cream-ish made me ...

Cream of tartar for potassium deficiency
2008-09-05 08:23:00 Hi Guys, I've read somewhere, and was told by someone, that cream of tartar, mixed on drinking juice(for good taste) may help in boosting our potassium, is it true? Redcurrant Sorbet And Faisselle Ice Cream With Fried Strawberries
2008-08-28 06:26:00 Sounds complicated right? Well, really it's not...trust me. If I have so little time these days that I forget to take my apron off before heading out of the house, then you can trust me when I say that this is nothing short of delicious but not intricate. I like multi layered, multi component desserts because they allow my brain to relax and my stress level to go down since I know I can plan and assemble them over several days.Did I just say that I went out with my apron on? Yep...I really laughed because I had mentioned to some of you that it might happen and it did. I did walk the dogs and went to the grocery store with my apron still tied around my waist. The funny part is that the neighbors did not act surprised nor did the personnel at the store! That grocery store around the corner from our house sees me just about everyday. The cashiers know my name, my habits, the produce guy even offered me a job on more than one occasion. I had to fess up and explain that no, one person d...

Tuesdays with Dorie: Summerberry-Sour Cream Ice Cream
2008-08-13 11:20:00 This week's recipe on page 434 from Baking: From my home to yours: Blueberry Sour Cream Ice Cream has been chosen by Dolores from Chronicles in Culinary Curiosity. I made the recipe during the hot days in Northern Germany before we started into vacation. My blueberries still have ways to go, although they are more blue than in the picture. I found a package of frozen summerberries in my freezer, which I used instead of frozen blueberries. The Summerberry-Sour Cream Ice Cream was delicous and gone in a few minutes. Very creamy! I didn't drain the thawed berries, I cooked it with preserving sugar, that thickens a bit and strained the puree through a sieve to remove the kernels. The recipe can be already found here or visit Dolores from Chronicles in Culinary Curiosity. For more Blueberry Sour Cream Ice Cream or alternative challenges visit the blogroll at the Tuesday's With Dorie website. Pages: 1 2 COMMENTS - ADD COMMENT

Fresh Strawberry Ice Cream
2008-08-10 10:00:00 I have a Cuisinart ice cream maker which I like fine I guess, the only problem is that I have to freeze the drum for a couple days before it's ready for churning ice cream. If I don't get it cold enough (and our freezer isn't the most reliable but hey, it's Alaska right? A faulty freezer isn't that high on the priority list) then the ice cream won't freeze completely but will get 70% there then part way through the process the whole thing, drum, ice cream and will begin to melt. Drives me crazy! So if you're in the market for an ice cream maker, I don't know that I'd recommend this one, but regardless I'd definitely recommend this recipe. I've got strawberries coming out the ears here and I've been making strawberry jam, strawberry pie and now strawberry ice cream. It's just so good.3 cups pureed strawberries2 pasteurized eggs1 1/4 cup granulated sugar1 cup of heavy cream2 cups of half and half (that's half cream, half milk and I use the fat free kinds they now pro...

2008-07-14 07:40:00 Allright before I get on to this dessert and explain this post title, I guess I should answer the question "So....who won the giveaway?". First off, I need to tell you that I surely did not expect such an incredible turnout...Wow! Ya'll love cookies!! At the time of the drawing after midnight 478 had stopped by! I almost fell off my chair! I am sorry I only have one cookie cutter to offer as a prize and because of that I have decided to draw a second winner for a cookbook I went to pick up at my favourite antique books shop. It is called "Tested By Time - A Collection of Charleston Recipe", and I am sure it will find a good home among one of you.I have read and jotted down everybody's name with an appropriate number attached to it because there were a few duplicates in the comment box and I wanted to be absolutely fair. So.... "a." is the lucky recipient of the Brigitte-Keks cookie cutter and Kim from My Plate, My World will receive the cookbook. If you both can contact me with yo...

Blueberry Swirl Vanilla Ice Cream
2008-07-09 05:02:00 Usually, when I get up first in the morning, I turn the coffee machine on, put a couple of pieces of bread in the toaster and hop right back into bed. Takes us an extra 10-15 minutes before we are fully awake during which we might tell a joke, talk about our schedules, etc....normal. Except the other day... B. opened up one eye and sleepily said "what the heck is that noise? What is wrong with this coffee maker?". I had to fess up "That's not the coffee, that's the ice cream maker!". He had this look, a perfect mix of fear that I had blown a fuse this early in the morning and of giddy happiness that he might have ice cream for breakfast. "At 6 o'clock in the morning? What got into you?!!""Nothing! That's work!". He straighten out on the bed and gave me a huge smile "Oh! Then I love it when you go to work!"... Add the dog to the mix who does not miss an opportunity to lick whatever edible falls on his snout and you have a pretty good morning. Don't be fooled though, I usually hi...

2008-07-05 04:19:00 First of all, let me start by saying that your comments and emails about the book were a wonderful balm for the soul. Ya'll rock! It won't be for a while that you'll be able to put it on your shelves but I will make sure to keep the whole journey somewhat interactive. I am sure that in a couple of months, I will need some recipe testers....for the 3rd or 4th time I verify everything works. Now, I hope you all had a great 4th of July with fireworks a plenty and good times with family and friends. We decided to gather the neighborhood at the dock and make a day of it. We caught crabs, grilled, took rides on the boat, and throughout the day we came and went as we pleased, refilling on sunscreen or beverages. I got to tell you, finishing with the fireworks over the water was quite a snapshot to engrave in one's memory! B. made the joke that I should savour the moment since I won't be having any of that next week for Bastille Day...ah yes...well, I am here now. And happy. And licking...

Tuesdays with Dorie: Peppermint Cream-puff Ring with Chocolate Glaze
2008-06-24 10:31:00 Caroline of A Consuming Passion has chosen Peppermint Crem Puff Ring on pages 290-292 from aus Baking: From my home to yours. Dorie was inspired by Paris-Brest, a wheel-shaped cream puff, named after the bicycle race between Paris and Brest. Instead of the rich buttercream this cream puff ist filled with a peppermint cream. I halved the recipe and used 20 leaves of my curly mint. The recipe recommends a stand mixer, but you can easily make it by hand. Choux pastry dough was one of my first recipes I learnt in a cooking class as a teenager. I used a plastic bag to pipe the dough onto the baking sheet, I had no leftovers for any eclairs. My gentlemen like the combination of mint and chocolate and although I am not a fan of this I was pleased by the taste. For more Peppermint Cream-puff Rings with Chocolate Glaze visit Caroline of A Consuming Passion and the blogroll at the Tuesday's With Dorie website. The recipe can be found here (click). Cream Puffs
2008-06-22 07:58:00 Cream puffs (profiteroles) are one of the many wonderful inventions given to the world by the French. They are at once elegant and simple. The best part of a cream puff is the fact that they are so easy to make. So easy that I really should make them more often.Pâte ŕ choux is the basis of any cream puff and is like no other dough. It is a soft and light pastry dough also used to make eclairs, beignets and gougčres to name just a few.A mere 4 (5 if you count salt) ingredients make one of the most delicious and widely recognized desserts ever. How easy is this process? Let me show you... The four ingredients: 4 eggs, 1 cup flour, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup butter. Melt butter (in that same heavy, pitted aluminum pan). Add water and bring to a boil. Pour in all the flour all at once with a 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Stir until a ball of dough forms. Remove from heat for 5 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, and mix with a wooden spoon (or a blue rubber spatula) until completely mixed in. Do this q...

Goat Cheese Ice Cream and Fresh Cherries
2008-06-13 15:10:00 Lately I have been on a fresh goat cheese and cherry kick. A bite of soft cheese of bread followed by a couple of cherries, pitted cherries filled by a spoonful of creamy goat cheese, chopped cherries folded into goat cheese cream on toast for breakfast. Nope, not pregnant, just enjoying the simple pleasures of summer and life in general. Like dipping my feet in the river when I can catch the right tide, catching crabs or taking the neighbors' kids down the creek at low tide to watch the herons. I live for moments like these and thank you Tea for reinforcing my feelings that the immediate, simple things in life are to be lived to the fullest. You must be wondering if I live in some sort of idyllic community. It's hard to understand our rhythm until you come visit like my aunt and uncle did earlier this month. Dinner? Let's go check the crab traps! Sunset? Let's get the sailboat and go for a ride? Just yesterday, C. called because our dogs had decided to trade house for the evenin...

PEACHES & CREAM...A truly sublime dessert!
2008-06-05 15:49:00 "Chocolate's okay, but I prefer a really intense fruit taste. You know when a peach is absolutely perfect... it's sublime. I'd like to capture that and then use it in a dessert."Kathy MatteaPeaches 'n' Cream...As summer proceeds & the weather becomes even hotter & hotter each passing day, we are rewarded by fruits as luscious as peaches! Strange are the ways of nature, where we are subjected to harsh, scorching summers on one hand, & rewarded with fruits as sweet & juicy as nectar on the other! No reason to complain, so moving on from juicy plums, I decided to explore peach in a dessert! SUBLIME!!There is a proverb that talks about a "Peaches 'n' Cream" ... complexion, traditionally, I would think! The only peaches & cream I can think of is that which goes straight to the hips!! Ass Cream - The Hot New Club Drug
2008-06-03 01:00:00 Apparently there is a new trend spreading around the club scene in NYC amongst the young males looking to get laid. While they are waiting in line they slather the well known ass cream Preparation H all over their stomach and chest. The hope or desired effect is that the cream will make them looked more ripped thus upping their chances of duping a female club goer into banging them. “If you want to get [lucky], you have to know how to dance, and if you want girls to dance with you, you have to look ripped.” Sound logic, but why is ass cream necessary? Preparation H contains a drug called phenylephrine HCL which when applied shrinks blood vessels in the area which then reduces blood and fluid in said area. This shit isn’t going to turn a beer gut into a six pack but the broken logic is that it will make your chest and stomach more defined. The company that produces Preparation H does not condone these “off ass” applications and does not recommend them. ...

Roger & Gallet?s Linden Blossom Moisturizing Shower Cream, and some thought
2008-06-02 03:13:00 I first became aware of the delightful scent of linden blossom some years ago. I was having a lovely stroll in a nearby park, and as I meandered under the cover of some stately trees, a fresh and sweetly honeyed-green fragrance surrounded me, blending with the dappled late afternoon sunlight and the grounding scent of warm scuffed earth and stone. I later discovered that this was the well known linden blossom, lime blossom, or tilleul. It fast became a favorite of mine, particularly in home fragrances and body products. Quietly refreshing, its limber green structure is interwoven with a hint of tang and a gentle airy sweetness. In home fragrances in particular, I find it has a charm that is both elegant and fresh.
