VARIOUS IMPLICATIONS OF CREATIONISM
2008-06-07 09:49:00
VARIOUS IMPLICATIONS OF CREATIONISMBelow are several recent posts on this subject which I made to email discussion groups.THE SIGNIFICANCE OF CREATION WEEK AS ARCHETYPAL PARADIGM In several recent posts I stated that Creation Week must be regarded as an archetypal paradigm, i.e. that God?s work of creation is a model which man is expected to follow in his work. The Fourth Commandment clearly states that the reason why man is supposed to work for six days and then rest on the seventh is because this is what God did during Creation Week. Now there is a great significance in this which is not usually noted when this is discussed. The Hebrew verb for work or labor (abad) which is used in the Fourth Commandment (Ex 20:6) literally means ?to serve?. Work or labor is to be regarded as service -- we are supposed to serve one another and, in so doing, thereby also serve God. It is very significant that Moses was instructed to tell Pharoah -- ?Let My people go that they may serve Me? (the ...

Evolution vs. Creationism, the Texas version
2008-06-04 16:10:00
It looks like Texas is planning to enter the ?debate? over the teaching of evolution. After fighting for nearly three years about how to teach children to read, the Texas Board of Education has decided to take on the science curriculum this summer. One of the goals of the board is to undermine the teaching ...

The Power of Creationism
2008-06-02 10:28:00
Do you believe in the fact that our world was created by GOD? If yes, then you may have already joined one of those creationistic unions, which investigate the way of creating the world by God. Creationism is a teaching of the fact that God has created the world and everything in it according to the Bible. In Harvard University there is a special department of creationism, where scientists do their best to prove their theory of creationism. Creationistic movements gain a big popularity throughout the whole world and they go on conquering the world’s appreciation. There are a lot of creationistic museums not only in the US, but also in Britain, Australia, Turkey, almost all over the world. There are the following main exhibits, such as Dinosaurs and SFX theatres, which are aimed at convincing the visitors with the fact that everything is the result of constructive work of God. Besides, there are a lot of different online sources of this Scientific Research Foundation (or Bilim A...
Let?s at Least Be Honest About ID
2008-05-24 21:32:00
I found a decently done review of Ben Stein’s idiocy, ‘Expelled’, but the reviewer has swallowed a little bit of the ID Kool-Aid and it happens to be a bit of Kool-Aid that annoys me greatly. Having now watched the film — which is terrible, filled with specious reasoning, false dichotomies, and self-contradiction — I ...
Set Your Watches for Medieval Time
2008-05-23 15:52:00
Well, it’s happened again. Another group of religious fundamentalists have zealously declared that the mysteries of science are explained by the words of Holy Scripture. I thank God that these folks have not been allowed to push their religious beliefs into our nation classrooms and laboratories (yet), relying as they are upon faulty science to ...
John Pendleton: Creationist Extraodinaire
2008-05-23 01:58:00
John Pendleton has a series of videos on YouTube spotlighting his scientific inadequacies. Sadly, his video freezes several minutes in, at least on my system, so I’m linking to an analysis posted by ExtantDodo which reproduces (nearly) Pendleton’s entire film plus commentary. It is a long video, weighing in at over thirty minutes. If you ...
The Frog-amander isn?t Transitional
2008-05-21 22:34:00
Image via WikipediaMay 21, 2008 starts the clock. Let’s see how long it takes for the creationists to cook up some way to claim that this latest ‘transitional’ fossil isn’t in fact transitional at. Sure it has that “overall amphibian gestalt. ? You know, kind of a froggy salamander-y sort of look” but I’m sure that’s ...

Many High Schools Still Teaching Creationism As a Valid Alternative to Evol
2008-05-20 20:15:00
Wired has some distressing news on the state of science education in this country (Hat tip to Andrew Sullivan). One in eight U.S. high school teachers presents creationism as a valid alternative to evolution, says a poll published in the Public Library of Science Biology. Of more than 900 teachers who responded to a poll conducted by ...
The History of Young Earth Creationism
2008-05-14 02:13:00
Mirrored here. Creationists, including those of AiG and ICR, constantly claim that the roots of young earth creationism can be traced to ancient Judaism writings such as in the writings of Abraham Ibn Ezra (c. 1089?1164), a Jewish astrologer and Rabbi, and Josephus (c. 37 ? c. 100), a famed Jewish historian and that this was the original “viewpoint” of the early church fathers that persisted until modern times. This is false. A lie made up to cover up the fact that the dogma of young earth creationism is of modern invention. The truth of the matter is that even though Jewish Scholars did believed that the earth is thousands of years old, none of them really believe that the earth is 6,000 years old (4,000 years after Creation and before Christ + 2,000 years after Christ was born according to the order of events and genealogies of the Bible, never mind them being out of order and filled with gaps in between). They believed it to be far more older than that (Cherry, 2006)....

Why bother with making sense? when you have peanut butter
2008-04-29 15:52:00
This must be one of the more amusing ‘debunkings’ of evolution I’ve seen thus far. Have a look. think of it as a kind of ‘how many layers of stupid can you find’ game. I love the little speech given by the frumpy lady starting about ten seconds in. Several videos follow the break. This ‘peanut ...
Morality as Truth: A Rogerian argument on Creationism
2008-04-26 11:03:00
A video presentation by Aspirin99As part of my graduate program, I'm taking a Rhetorical Theory class. For the last assignment, I was asked to take something I had previously written and improve it using principles we had studied.I chose Rogerian Argument. This principle is suggested for debating topics of hot emotional content, such as religion and politics. It seeks to place the opponent at ease by telling him or her what you like about their views and then finding common ground from which to start the discussion.I chose to take correspondence regarding Creationism and turn it into a Rogerian documentary video. I enlisted the help of Antlerman, a mod in the forums, to do some of the voice-overs.It's an hour-long documentary that I made in two weeks; so, it's not perfect, but I think you'll like it. I have not chopped it into 10-minute segments yet for Youtube, but it can be watched from my website (and here). I made a fast forward button for the player, so you can come back la...
Movie Review: Expelled
2008-04-19 14:36:00
Interesting observations by Ed Morrissey on Hot Air …the film does an excellent job of demonstrating atheism as a belief system. Atheism as represented by Richard Dawkings and others in this film gets exposed as exactly the kind of belief system they claim to despise. They can?t prove God exists ? and they can?t prove God ...

Applying Logic to Creationism / Evolution
2008-04-03 12:45:00
A little while ago, and for no apparent reason (I’m like that ), I thought about an Internet poll I’ve seen some time ago, which asked people what they thought was more likely about the development of life on Earth. If I remember correctly, the options were something like this: God created the species as ...

Taz Walker whines about a science book
2008-04-01 22:38:00
To be honest with you I just cannot look at creationist emotionally charged writings without getting upset over them. Creationists have master the art of emotionally manipulating people into clouding their thoughts and reasonings so it’ll be easy for them to be proselytized into believing all their lies. Here’s a direct example of creationists relying ...

Creating Creationism

This immediately caught my attention because of some recent events that have occurred in my life in ...

The fundamentalist?s implicit acknowledgement of his own ridiculousness
2008-03-10 07:36:00
Dave Scot at Uncommon Descent [i.e., a ridiculous blog by and for Christian fundamentalists who like to delude themselves and each other into thinking that 1) Intelligent Design is a science rather than one big faith-based argument from ignorance; 2) that there is some grand dogmatic “Darwinist” conspiracy in the scientific community which is dedicated to ...
Plenty More Hodge-Podge on Dinosaurs
2008-03-06 09:36:00
Can’t explain it, can’t they? It’s a blatant fact that Creationists can never, ever honestly explain why are there no human fossils found alongside dinosaur fossils. The troubles of debating Creationists
2008-03-03 15:53:00
Steven Novella of NeuroLogica has written an incisive analysis of PR strategies that are apparently being employed by Creationists, particularly when it comes to debating evolution and Creationism. There is No Joy in Creationism Part 3
2008-02-15 01:44:00

Dawkins to Target Creationism
2008-02-14 03:32:00
The Bookseller is reporting that publisher Free Press has bought the U.S. rights to Richard Dawkins? next book, "for a reported $3.5m" and UK rights have gone to Transworld for a "substantial sum" (I think I'm converting to atheism before writing my next book...). The new book from Dawkins is said to explore creationism and the evidence for evolution: The as-yet-untitled volume will be published in 2009, a year that will feature a double anniversary for Charles Darwin?the 200th anniversary of his birth in February, and the 150th anniversary of the publication of The Origin of Species in November. Gaminara said: "He is arguably the science writer most closely associated with Darwin and in my view it would be strange not to have a book by Richard Dawkins in this anniversary year. "He feels that never in his lifetime has there been such a belief in creationism, in the US and also creeping into the school curriculum in this country, and as the Charles Simonyi Professor for the Public U...

Florida legislators pushing for evolution to be taught as ?just a theory?
2008-02-07 02:36:00
Remember what I said about having to be a right-wing Christian nutter in order to be a public school administrator or council member in Florida?
