Creationists and Birding
2009-11-04 10:17:00
Perhaps in an effort to stir the pot so to speak, Corey at 10,000 Birds raised an interesting question a few days ago: Can Creationists Be Birders? The short answer is “Of course!” For most birders, the appreciation of birds does not extend much beyond the aesthetic beauty of the birds and the ability to ...
Climate Change and Creationism
2009-09-16 03:50:00
Ignorant of the known facts my little Padawan you be. Such a biased formulation of listed questions will not provide enlightenment to the Jedi way. I cannot but resist with futility, in providing my knowledge that opposes simplistic beliefs... 1. Man made climate ch
Anthromorphic Climate Change & Creationism?
2009-09-15 06:59:00
I've noticed there are "climate skeptics" among the CR4 readers. That is they deny there is any demonstrated link between human activity and increasing temperatures. I've wondered if there is a link between this position and a belief in creationism. Without arguing the merits of either
Sathya Sai Baba and the Vedas ? part two
2009-05-26 01:11:00
Sathya Sai Baba claims that the original language of the Vedas was Sanskrit, saying:- “In the Sanskrit language, the first letter of the alphabet is ‘A’ and the last one is ‘Ha.’ When you combine A and Ha, it becomes Aha.” [10 July 1986] The above is a good example of the quality of the “wisdom” that ...
Sathya Sai Baba and the Vedas ? part one
2009-05-20 21:14:00
Sathya Sai Baba makes the phenomenal claim that he is in reality the Almighty form of the Vedas (i.e. “Vedarupa“) [Sanathana Sarathi July 1974, p. 170] He writes and speaks much about them, that they are the result of sages’ (i.e. rshis) “high spiritual vision” including “body, mind and spirit” and claims that  they reveal “astronomical ...
Sathya Sai Baba blames everything on others, nothing on himself
2009-05-07 15:36:00
The most unreasonable of all excuses – to avert all blame from oneself for anything one does – is to claim that one is the Divine Godhead – pure, infallible and entirely benevolent. This is exactly what Sathya Sai Baba does, and he constantly repeats this theme. He is ever fault-finding and criticising others, including ...
Creationism proofs refuted

Contemporary Creationism as a Form of Folkbiology
2008-11-30 14:05:00
I think anyone familiar with science will realize that Intelligent DesignCreationism is not science. For various reasons, calling it philosophy doesn’t seem right either. Theology? Well… maybe it could be called Natural Theology (many called it that in William Paley’s time, anyway). None of these does justice to the inductive processes that go on in ...
Jesus, Dinosaurs, and More Drivels Part 2
2008-10-08 21:59:00
[BPSDB] The section “Dinosaurs and the Bible?” is where we’ll begin. The webmaster claims there are over 20 links on dinosaurs and the bible, but I only counted 17. The first link is of course deals with Behemoth being a sauropod dinosaur while engrossing in ignorance of the dinosaur’s lack of a naval and its ...
Teaching Evolution and Biology, and Confronting Misconceptions
2008-09-20 19:51:00
Last month, the journal Integrative and Comparative Biology published an article that a lot of high school biology teachers might want to take a look at, to refresh themselves in their work - Teaching evolution (and all of biology) more effectively: Strategies for engagement, critical reasoning, and confronting misconceptions. It’s subscription only, but contact me ...
Who are the British Creationists? Should it be discussed in School?
2008-09-16 21:00:00
Just Who are the British Creationists? This is the question posed by the BBC site (hotlink above) prompted by a comment by Professor Michael Reiss (BBC Link) where he thinks that Creationism should be allowed to be discussed in a Science lesson if a pupil brings it up. From what I gather this is purely from the point of view that this would then enable the teacher to point out, in his view, that Creationism had no scientific basis and that Darwinian molecules to man Evolution does. He believes it is better to open dialogue in order to hopefully 'educate' a person in a real scientific view.  To quote: "However, if a young person raises creationism in a science class, teachers should be in a position to explain why evolution is a sound scientific theory and why creationism is not, in any way, scientific." Now this created a complete overreaction by some more vocal evolutionary evangelicals in the scientific community. I am not sure if they just read the media and believed ...
Buddy?s Book of Fairy Tales - When Dragons? Hearts Were Good
2008-09-10 19:06:00
Reposted and Revised– Bible Fairy Tales. This is what this book When Dragons Hearts Were Good (1999, Master Books) made for little children is all about. Buddy Davis, sculptor and songwriter (But in no way a true certified paleo-artist), wrote and published this small children’s book based on one of his most idiotic of songs. The book is also illustrated by the same man, Dan Lietha, who created a comic strip propaganda series After Eden and Creation Wise, a series that became a subject of parodies being made to refute the claims made by YECs found within the series as shown here. Nothing to review in detail really. There are lots of things worth noting in this book, though, such as the indoctrination of deluding the minds of young children to the point where they cannot tell dinosaur from dragon. This except from the book, found on page 18, is an direct example of this, “One of the strangest pair of [sic] dragons, the stegosaurs, had triangular-shaped plates which ...
Sathya Sai Baba?s Greatest Achievements
2008-09-08 11:01:00
Sathya Sai Baba is hailed by many devotees and others - not least politicians and leaders in India - for great social achievements. This is not surprising by comparison with the continued desolation of India’s poor and suffering masses in that the leaders show themselves incapable and outright unwilling to give any priority to the ...

Well Richard Dawkins is at it once again and ably supported by Channel 4. VARIOUS IMPLICATIONS OF CREATIONISM
2008-06-07 09:49:00
VARIOUS IMPLICATIONS OF CREATIONISMBelow are several recent posts on this subject which I made to email discussion groups.THE SIGNIFICANCE OF CREATION WEEK AS ARCHETYPAL PARADIGM In several recent posts I stated that Creation Week must be regarded as an archetypal paradigm, i.e. that God?s work of creation is a model which man is expected to follow in his work. The Fourth Commandment clearly states that the reason why man is supposed to work for six days and then rest on the seventh is because this is what God did during Creation Week. Now there is a great significance in this which is not usually noted when this is discussed. The Hebrew verb for work or labor (abad) which is used in the Fourth Commandment (Ex 20:6) literally means ?to serve?. Work or labor is to be regarded as service -- we are supposed to serve one another and, in so doing, thereby also serve God. It is very significant that Moses was instructed to tell Pharoah -- ?Let My people go that they may serve Me? (the ...

One of the goals of the board is to undermine the teaching ...

The Power of Creationism
2008-06-02 10:28:00
Do you believe in the fact that our world was created by GOD? If yes, then you may have already joined one of those creationistic unions, which investigate the way of creating the world by God. Creationism is a teaching of the fact that God has created the world and everything in it according to the Bible. In Harvard University there is a special department of creationism, where scientists do their best to prove their theory of creationism. Creationistic movements gain a big popularity throughout the whole world and they go on conquering the world’s appreciation. There are a lot of creationistic museums not only in the US, but also in Britain, Australia, Turkey, almost all over the world. There are the following main exhibits, such as Dinosaurs and SFX theatres, which are aimed at convincing the visitors with the fact that everything is the result of constructive work of God. Besides, there are a lot of different online sources of this Scientific Research Foundation (or Bilim A...

Well, it’s happened again. Another group of religious fundamentalists have zealously declared that the mysteries of science are explained by the words of Holy Scripture. John Pendleton: Creationist Extraodinaire

Many High Schools Still Teaching Creationism As a Valid Alternative to Evol
2008-05-20 20:15:00
Wired has some distressing news on the state of science education in this country (Hat tip to Andrew Sullivan). One in eight U.S. high school teachers presents creationism as a valid alternative to evolution, says a poll published in the Public Library of Science Biology. Of more than 900 teachers who responded to a poll conducted by ...
The History of Young Earth Creationism
2008-05-14 02:13:00
Mirrored here. Creationists, including those of AiG and ICR, constantly claim that the roots of young earth creationism can be traced to ancient Judaism writings such as in the writings of Abraham Ibn Ezra (c. 1089?1164), a Jewish astrologer and Rabbi, and Josephus (c. 37 ? c. 100), a famed Jewish historian and that this was the original “viewpoint” of the early church fathers that persisted until modern times. This is false. A lie made up to cover up the fact that the dogma of young earth creationism is of modern invention. The truth of the matter is that even though Jewish Scholars did believed that the earth is thousands of years old, none of them really believe that the earth is 6,000 years old (4,000 years after Creation and before Christ + 2,000 years after Christ was born according to the order of events and genealogies of the Bible, never mind them being out of order and filled with gaps in between). They believed it to be far more older than that (Cherry, 2006)....

This must be one of the more amusing ‘debunkings’ of evolution I’ve seen thus far. Have a look. think of it as a kind of ‘how many layers of stupid can you find’ game. I love the little speech given by the frumpy lady starting about ten seconds in. Several videos follow the break. This ‘peanut ...
Morality as Truth: A Rogerian argument on Creationism
2008-04-26 11:03:00
A video presentation by Aspirin99As part of my graduate program, I'm taking a Rhetorical Theory class. For the last assignment, I was asked to take something I had previously written and improve it using principles we had studied.I chose Rogerian Argument. This principle is suggested for debating topics of hot emotional content, such as religion and politics. It seeks to place the opponent at ease by telling him or her what you like about their views and then finding common ground from which to start the discussion.I chose to take correspondence regarding Creationism and turn it into a Rogerian documentary video. I enlisted the help of Antlerman, a mod in the forums, to do some of the voice-overs.It's an hour-long documentary that I made in two weeks; so, it's not perfect, but I think you'll like it. I have not chopped it into 10-minute segments yet for Youtube, but it can be watched from my website (and here). I made a fast forward button for the player, so you can come back la...
Movie Review: Expelled
2008-04-19 14:36:00
Interesting observations by Ed Morrissey on Hot Air …the film does an excellent job of demonstrating atheism as a belief system. Atheism as represented by Richard Dawkings and others in this film gets exposed as exactly the kind of belief system they claim to despise. They can?t prove God exists ? and they can?t prove God ...

Applying Logic to Creationism / Evolution

To be honest with you I just cannot look at creationist emotionally charged writings without getting upset over them. Here’s a direct example of creationists relying ...
