Clash of the Dinosaurs -- As bad as any Creationist Film That's Out There
2009-12-16 02:43:00
Sunday night, I watched Clash of the Dinosaurs, the show which I totally acknowledged to be a very bad show to watch. Not because of the animation which was incredible and well made, but because of the bad science behind it and the constant repetitious showing of dinosaur footage again and again and again. In fact this show is just as bad as the creationist films shown at Ken Ham's stupid crackhouse. Come to think of it, CotD is among the many science shows that's adding fuel to the creationists' efforts to find fault with everything science including dinosaurs. Like creationists, the show is chock load of bad science and made up claims about certain dinosaurs and one pterosaur such as Quetzalcolatlus having eyes like a hawk that allows it to see from far distance (when no such evidence has ever been found!) and Sauroposeidon having a "second brain" despite the fact that the claim about the so-called second brain has long been clearly debunked. In the show, the producers erroneo...
Jesus, Dinosaurs, and More Creationist Vomit Part 4
2009-10-28 04:34:00
When we last seen part 3, the webmaster asserts Behemoth to be a dinosaur out of sheer ignorance of Behemoth being a creature of myth and the dinosaur having no chewing teeth, not being able to live in swamps, not having male genders, etc. This time in Part 4, the webmaster discusses an oft-repeated claim about no death occurring before the Fall of Man, citing the Bible as proof of their fallacy."The Bible clearly states that there was no death of humans, or animals (including dinosaurs) before Adam sinned. It teaches that the actions of one man, Adam brought death into the world and that the entire creation has suffered the consequences."If what he says is true, then how does he explain that the Bible clearly refers to only humans when it talks about no death occurring before the fall? There is not a single indication that Death through Adam passages, such as in Romans 8 for example, should also apply to animals and other non-human creations such as the whole universe, which the we...
Jesus, Dinosaurs, and More Creationist Vomit Part 3
2009-10-26 01:42:00
Continued from last post and reposted-- now we get to "The Great Behemoth" where the beast of Biblical folklore is asserted to be a dinosaur like a Brachiosaurus or an Apatosaurus despite a lot of things these Jurassic dinosaurs completely lack thereof. This section starts off with the unfounded question, "Is the word 'dinosaur' in the bible?" Anyone familiar with the Bible will say "no" to that one since the word dinosaur was first coined by Sir Richard Owen in 1842. But that doesn't stop the webmaster from asserting,"But that doesn't mean that the animals we now call "Dinosaurs" are not in the Bible. It just means that if they are in the Bible, they are called by a different name. The Bible says that Adam named all the animals that God created. So to find the dinosaurs we will have to look for the original Hebrew names given to these creatures (names like "Behemoth", "Tannin", etc..)." Dinosaurs are indeed called by a different name-- bird. Otherwise they were never given any ...
Jesus, Dinosaurs, and More Creationist Vomit Part 2
2009-10-25 20:57:00
Reposted as of 10/25/09 -- The section "Dinosaurs and the Bible?" is where we'll begin. The webmaster claims there are over 20 links on dinosaurs and the bible, but I only counted 17. The first link is of course deals with Behemoth being a sauropod dinosaur while engrossing in ignorance of the dinosaur's lack of a naval and its inability to live an amphibious life."Many people believe that God is the Creator of all things. But very few people know when or why He created the Dinosaurs."In truth, these few people, who claims to know when and why He created them, are only making it up out of ignorance of the real physical evidence that's leading everyone to truly believe that God did not created the dinosaurs thousands of years ago to delight humans."Children are often unsure how Dinosaurs fit in, or if they are even mentioned in the Bible at all."Name one child who are unsure how dinosaurs fit in! Name just one! Otherwise it's just another assertion made up out of ignorance of esp...
Jesus, Dinosaurs, and More Creationist Vomit

Reposted as of 10/24/09 - One of the creationist sites I find a total eyesore seeing, especially when searching for dinosaur sites on Google, Hotbot, Excite, and other search engine sites is Jesus, Dinosaurs, and More (JDM) . A run-of-the-mill creationist website containing the usual treasure trove of drivels about dinosaurs living with humans, the earth being thousands of years old, Cro-magnon man being [sic] "Post-flood descendants of Noah," Neanderthals being modern humans (Rebuttal ) and much more. It has various types of dinosaur images taken from DK publishing, BBC Walking with Dinosaurs, and other forms of non-creationist dinosaur media which should never had any part of this site containing images depicting creationist propaganda. JDM is pretty old and been around since 1997. It's not updated pretty often. Just like No Answers in Genesis , it has a list of links running down the middle of the site's main section. Unlike No Answers in Genesis, however, the JDM links only br...

John Pendleton: Creationist Extraodinaire

John Pendleton has a series of videos on YouTube spotlighting his scientific inadequacies. It is a long video, weighing in at over thirty minutes. If you ...

Creationist Museum founder links Darwinian theory with racism and genocide
2008-02-15 05:08:00
A new book, Darwin's Plantation : Evolution's Racist Roots, attempts to connect Darwinian theory with Nazi racial beliefs and the policies of Josef Stalin. The book was co-authored by Ken Ham, founder of the the Creationist Museum in Kentucky, in partnership with Charles Ware, president of Crossroads Bible College in Indianapolis. The Creation Museum is an intellectual folly, an institution dedicated to ideas that have been discredited by science. It contends that the earth is only a few thousand years old and that dinosaurs co-existed with humans.Ham's views don't instill confidence when it comes to his take on Darwin. His claim that Darwin did more than any other person to "popularize" racism is untrue. In fact Darwin wrote in negative terms about the slavery he encountered during his voyages. His views were egalitarian by the standards of the day. The use of the term "savage" was commonplace during his time, and has to be kept within its cultural context. The attempt to link ma...

A new book, Darwin's Plantation : Evolution's Racist Roots, attempts to connect Darwinian theory with Nazi racial beliefs and the policies of Josef Stalin. The book was co-authored by Ken Ham, founder of the the Creationist Museum in Kentucky. The Creation Museum is the equivalent of an intellectual folly, an institution dedicated to ideas that have been discredited by science. It is more like a comedic theme park - sort of a Ripley's Believe-It-or-Not operation with a cock-eyed theory of natural history. The museum contends that the earth is only a few thousand years old and that dinosaurs co-existed with modern humans.Ham's views don't instill confidence when it comes to his take on Darwin. His claim that Darwin did more than any other person to "popularize" racism is untrue. In fact Darwin was opposed to slavery and his views were egalitarian by the standards of the day.In an effort to create a fusion between Darwinian theory and racism, Ham makes a leap to the excesses of Sta...

Hitchens Takes on Creationist Jay Richards
2008-01-28 22:42:00
Christopher Hitchens and Jay Richards debated "Atheism vs Theism and the Scientific Evidence of Intelligent Design" recently at Dinkelspiel Auditorium, Stanford U."Intelligent design" isn't a term Hitchens acknowledges. In order for intelligence to "design" it has to be exercised, and this in the minds of some demonstrates the hand of God at work. That nature has inherent design features doesn't of necessity "prove" the existence of a deity.Hitchens made the very good point that centuries of "barbarism, misery, ignorance, slavery and early death" hardly leads one to believe in a beneficent designer God.Richards responded by describing God as the "definition of goodness and love". However his all-loving deity for some reason turned a blind eye to the holocaust and the other epic atrocities that scar human history. His argument from science was equally unconvincing.Hitchens pointedly asked Richards if he believed that Jesus was born of a virgin and if he also believed that Jesus resu...
Creationist Ben Stein on "Big Science"
2008-01-21 16:32:00
For anyone who can stomach it, here is creationist Ben Stein explaining how "Big Science" is killing the 1st Amendment in the United States. And as a former political speech-writer turned actor, he's of course an authority on science. This would be strictly for comic relief if it weren't simultaneously so tragic because of the very real danger that knuckle-dragging troglodytes of the Stein variety pose to the future of science education and scientific research in America. Here's a very good resource for anyone interested in what science and evolution is really about, instead of all the creationist propaganda.
Creationist museum avoids extinction - for now
2008-01-21 16:21:00
This was reported a few days ago: A Texas museum that teaches creationism is counting on the auction of a prehistoric mastodon skull to stave off extinction. The founder and curator of the Mt. Blanco Fossil Museum, which rejects evolution and claims that man and dinosaurs coexisted, said it will close unless the Volkswagen-sized skull finds a generous bidder. Unfortunately, the 40,000-year-old skull was sold for $191,200, so the "museum" will hang around a little while longer. Source Paul J. Richard Dawkins : Duped by Creationist Front Group on Film
2007-09-29 12:59:00
A while ago Richard Dawkins and other prominent atheists agreed to appear in a documentary named “Crossroads - The Intersection of Science and Religion”. It was their understanding that “Crossroads” would focus on the debate between creationism and Darwinism.Recently Dawkins discovered that the name of the film had been changed to “Expelled - No Intelligence Allowed”. Quite a difference in emphasis from the original. More troubling was the change in the content itself. Far from being an even handed debate, “Expelled” goes to bat for creationists, arguing that scientists who support intelligent design theory are being denied academic posts at some universities.Needless to say, Dawkins isn’t thrilled. He had this to say ... "At no time was I given the slightest clue that these people were a creationist front.”Clearly some misrepresentation was going on.PZ Myers, a biology professor at the University of Minnesota, also agreed to appear in the original documentary ...
Creationist Dinosaur Hunters
2007-09-26 15:17:00
Creationist revisions and baloney detection.Richard Dawkins.net linked to this creationist comic strip this morning. It's really unbelievable, you have to see it for yourself. Spoiler alert: God saved the dinosaurs and then his followers systematically slaughtered them.I know I'm supposed to be "framing science" so as not to intrude on people's delicate fantasy lives, but if ever there was baloney that needed detection this is it.Credulous acceptance of baloney can cost you money; that's what P. T. Barnum meant when he said, "There's a sucker born every minute." But it can be much more dangerous than that, and when governments and societies lose the capacity for critical thinking, the results can be catastrophic -- however sympathetic we may be to those who have bought the baloney. In science we may start with experimental results, data, observations, measurements, "facts." We invent, if we can, a rich array of possible explanations and systematically confront each explanation...

Creationist Lunacy in North Carolina
2007-09-09 23:59:00
UNC Professor says God designed apes so humans could cage them. And God said it was good?As a recent migr to the South from the heathenistic West Coast I'm often reminded of some of the cultural differences between my fellow countrymen. A case in point is this gem from David A. Plaisted, professor of computer science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (just a stone's throw from where I live in Durham). After quote-mining select news items and science journals to claim that anthropologists are confused by the fossil evidence connecting humans and other apes (we aren't) he offers this suggestion of God's motives:But why would God create a creature that is so close to a human, but not quite? To answer this, we have to reason from what we know or can infer about God's motives in the creation. This may lead us to considerations that seem far removed from those that are expected in this context. The original creation was intended to contribute to the happiness ...

2007-08-30 10:53:00
From the archives - the following article was originally posted on my old blog back in August of 2005. For reasons that will become clear shortly, I’ve been reposting this series of stories over here. There’s one more after this, and I’ll have that up over here later today. Someone named Emma kindly provided a couple of links to PDF files relevant to the California creationist lawsuit. One of the links is to a propaganda piece written by the Association of Christian Schools International, which is the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit. The second link is to a copy of the actual complaint that has been filed in the case. The ACSI propaganda flyer is an interesting read, but I’m not going to take the time to criticise it at present. Instead, I’m going to begin by looking at the complaint, which should contain the real meat of the suit. The complaint is over one hundred pages in length, and I have found material that I’d like to comment on very early...
Pack up time for Creationist
2007-08-22 21:51:00
Creationist will soon be running for cover as the researchers and scientists are getting very close to creating artificial life. Some of the estimates predict that they are just 3 to 10 years away from create some form of life in a laboratory environment. And truly that would be the greatest breakthrough in the scientific world. The ability to create a living cell from scratch, by chemically synthesizing all its components, is not far beyond present technology as it may seem.As per Mark Bedau, chief operating officer of ProtoLife of Venice, Italythree major hurdles to creating synthetic life:—A container, or membrane, for the cell to keep bad molecules out, allow good ones, and the ability to multiply.—A genetic system that controls the functions of the cell, enabling it to reproduce and mutate in response to environmental changes.—A metabolism that extracts raw materials from the environment as food and then changes it into energy.Jack Szostak of Harvard Medical School, predi...
Do Recent Discoveries Support a Designed Universe?
2007-08-09 16:08:00
Recently I came across an article entitled, ?Is There Scientific Evidence for the Existence of God? How the Recent Discoveries Support a Designed Universe?. (Updated: 10 June 2004)Dr. Walter L. Bradley claims, ?My personal experience as a lecturer supports the growing openness to intelligent design theory in the academic world. Having given over 135 talks on this subject to more than 65,000 students and professors at over 65 major university campuses from 1986 to 2002, I have observed a dramatic change in audience receptivity to the idea that an intelligent designer of the universe may exist. I have noted a widespread acceptance (albeit begrudging in some quarters) that this growing body of scientific evidence demands an intellectually honest reckoning, as no exclusively naturalistic explanation seems capable of rising to the occasion.? Blogger Suggest: 17 Evidences Against Evolution
2007-08-06 23:16:00
I found an interesting list today, entitled 17 Evidences Against Evolution, which may have originated from here. I am fully aware of some of the rebuttals. The 17 topics are as follows:1. MOON DUST2. MAGNETIC FIELD3. FOSSIL RECORD4. EMBRYONIC RECAPITULATION5. PROBABILITY6. SECOND LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS7. VESTIGIAL ORGANS8. FOSSIL AND FOSSIL FUEL FORMATION9. PUNCTUATED EQUILIBRIA10. HOMOLOGY/MOLECULAR BIOLOGY11. DATING METHODS12. DINOSAURS13. SUN'S DIAMETER14. NILE RIVER'S OVERFLOW15. EARTH'S ROTATION16. WRITTEN RECORD17. THE BIBLEI realize that some of the readers of my blog may find fault with this idea (being supporters of evolution), but I believe these writers make some valid points. And I fully believe that if one disagrees with the presented information, they should be able to discuss civilly as to why they disagree, or simply dismiss what is presented.
Faith vs. Unbelief
2007-07-27 14:54:00
What I have recently learned on my blog while speaking to Atheists:1. Acceptance of science?s theory of evolution is not belief that it is actually true, but merely holds that it is the best theory science has. The word ?consensus? is used, meaning ?opinion?, which cannot be used as authoritatively fact.2. Science has not/can not prove there is no God (some assume because it is a negative), because He is out of the natural realm.3. Science cannot prove there is a God, because He is out of the natural realm.4. To science, God is non testable, because ?The idea of a supernatural explanation (i.e. god) is not even considered, because science cannot test or falsify supernatural explanations. They are outside the bounds of science.?5. Science does not work with absolutes, so all is relative to current knowledge which may change at any given time due to new evidence overwriting old evidence, or ?consensus?, meaning ?opinion?.6. I am not to use science to prove there is a God, because scie...
