2008-06-07 21:38:00 My wife and I went for a bike ride this morning to the Coon Rapids Dam. The trail was littered with branches and leaves from yesterday's high winds. The path was also still damp from the rain where the sun hadn't found it yet. On a tight corner into a bridge over Coon Creek, I made the corner fine but my wife's bike slid out from under her into the rail on one side of the bridge. As she hit the side of the metal bridge, she was thrown across to the other side where her head hit the steel rail hard. Luckily she has made it a habit to wear her helmet as the cushioned the blow. We made sure she was ok and she wanted to continue on. We proceeded onto to the dam which was hosting the annual Carp Festival. Largest carp wins the boat. While it's rare for it to get high, there is always the question in the back of our mind about whether or not it will rise above the shoreline. While we find it to be a nice touch to the house, the creek ended up being a sensitive topic for our neighbors while they were trying to sell their house. Basically, they had to convince the potential buyers that the creek would their house. In other words, it rarely gets very high. Saturday afternoon I was on my way home when the bottom dropped out of the sky. Literally pouring down rain. I walk in the house, over to the window to look at the creek, and sure enough, it was on the rise. It figures Saturday was the first full day our new neighbors are living next door. I am sure they were sitting on pins and needles praying it didn't creap much further. Thank goodness, for everyone, it did not.
