News Round-Up: Oil, Biofuel, World Hunger and Crimes Against Humanity.
2007-11-06 18:22:00 The world has 800 million people suffering from hunger. About 100-150 million of those receive regular food aid. Up to now, we could say "the world is producing enough food to feed everyone, so it is just a matter of re-dividing the food!". This might no longer be true. In less than 10 years, the price for a barrel of crude oil went from less than US$20 to almost US$100. Soaring fossil fuel prices, and the push for non-fossil fuel -either out of environmental concerns, or to create less dependency on foreign oil- had many governments stimulate farmers to switch from food crops to biofuel crops. As if they really had to stimulate farmers: the growing demand made biofuel a real profitable cash crop. So, more farmers growing biofuel, means less farmers growing food crops. More land in use for biofuel, less land for food crops. The dilemma shows even more drastically in developing countries. As an example, the government of Swaziland announced this week that it would be allocating thousa...
Facebook and other crimes against humanity
2007-10-16 00:29:00 So this is the first post title that doesn’t rhyme. I feel slightly liberated. I must tell you, I’ve had an annoying itch for a few months now, an itch that began as soon as I bravely seized on a moment of clarity and pressed the ‘Deactivate my Account’ button on facebook. I had only been ...

Their method of apologist behaviour is “The Christians have killed more people than we did so we are yet to reach their level”. But on checking ...

Scientific Crimes Against Humanity
2007-01-26 04:25:01 by Don Robertson, The American Philosopher 1/25/07When you are out in front, it is tough to get a fair hearing of your concerns because those behind are busy talking among themselves. They are sure they know where they are going and what is ahead, because they talk amongst each other and develop a consensus. Today, they are wrong. Listen up for a second. I work long hours to write what I write. It seems every day we read of yet another mountain of funding going toward the race to get in on the biotech revolution's fantastic promises of profits, jobs, inventions, cures, wealth and panacea. Who is fooling whom here? Utopia is a long way off, and few should doubt, given the current state of the world, it lays less distant in the past, than it does in the future.Science is driving this bus we are all on. And yet all scientists claim they are amoral. This is one of the great fictions of the scientific community, that science is amoral. This great lie casts a pall of moral immunity over t...
For murder and crimes against humanity
2006-11-06 19:42:01 Saddam Hussein sentenced to death by hanging How about life in jail? I know I may be wrong, but I?m one of those who are against death penalty. Taking a life is taking a life, no matter how, why or to whom it is done. I don? really know why I stand against the death penalty. Maybe because I believe human life is sacred and I?m not a supporter of the concept of an "eye for an eye", the old principle of retributive justice.
