Slow Cooking: Chili aus dem Crockpot
2008-11-10 12:05:00

WCC #25 - Smoked Pork Neck in Pineapple Sauce with Dried Cherries and Raisi
2008-03-26 00:00:00
Lis of La Mia Cucina chose Crockpots, Dutch Ovens & Pressure Cookers for round 26 of Sara's Weekend Cookbook Challenge. Since one year I am a proud crockpot owner, but I have to admit, I use it not that often. Perhaps it's because slow cooking hasn't a great vogue, although there is a German speaking forum for crockpots, but no slow cooking cookbooks in German. I like the advantage, that a slow cooker can be left unattended, so that I can do something else. While the Smoked Pork Neck in Pineapple Sauce with Dried Cherries and Raisins was cooking, I was still sleeping - thanks to a timer - and had time for the hairdresser. When I was back, lunch could be served. It was delicious, the sweet fruits went well with the salty and smoky taste of the Kassler. The recipe asked for Virginia Ham, needless to say that in Northern Germany I have no access to Virginia Ham. And I didn't find any whole bone-in ham that fit in my slow cooker. So I used Kassler, in this case from the nec...

Crockpot Swedish Meatball Recipe
2008-03-05 04:22:00
My family, being mostly German and Scandinavian, often challenges me to make authentic recipes. My husband challenged me to make Hungarian Goulash, and a while back I was asked to make a Swedish meatball recipe with a twist - it had to be an easy crockpot recipe.A crockpot Swedish meatball recipe seemed ideal for me; Swedish meatballs are a dish that would only improve by marinating all day long. I came up with this, and although you can use frozen meatballs to make the super quick and easy version, I've included a very tasty recipe for homemade meatballs as well.2 - 12 ounce packages frozen meatballs1 cup water½ tsp nutmeg1 tsp minced onion½ tsp garlic powder½ tsp dill weed½ tsp black pepper4 ounces cubed goat cheese1 cup sour creamSpray crock pot with non-stick cooking spray. Mix all ingredients except cheese and sour cream in crock pot, cover and cook on low 6-8 hours to high 3-4 hours. Stir in cheese and sour cream, cover and cook on high an additional 30 minutes. One for the Crockpot
2008-01-03 04:08:00
Sadly, the crockpot is one of those kitchen appliances I just had to have and hardly ever use. I have a few things I like to make in there, but there just don't seem to be enough appealing recipes. However, when I found this recipe while searching for ways to use a package of veal stew meat, I immediately remembered the busy day I had coming up and thought this would be a perfect recipe to adapt to the crockpot. This meal was super easy to prepare the night before, and then just plug in the next morning before work. The vegetables and meat cooked wonderfully, and the marsala wine added such a nice background taste. I omitted the olive oil, since the onions were going right into the crock and the veal had plenty of it's own fat to brown in; I also increased the amount of squash. This was a great dinner to come home too, and my husband even prepared the salad, so I was completely off the hook!Veal and Butternut Squash Stew, adapted from Cucina Ebraica: Flavors of the Italian Jewish ...

crockpot tips - crockpot buying tips
2007-11-27 15:57:00
Always buy more crockpot than you need- this gives you more flexibility get one with a removable liner- they are MUCH easier to clean! Cheapest is not always best- spend a few extra dollars on a good one! Some models come with programmable timers-this may be a great feature, for example, if your cooking time is 6 hours and you'll be out of the house for 8 hours. You can set the crockpot to start 2 hours after you leave! Here's some more helpful crockpot and slow cooker tips: Use leaner cuts of meat to reduce amount of fat that accumulates during cooking Usually, avoid frozen foods placed directly in the crockpot. Thaw in refrigerator or microwave first Ground beef and turkey should be browned on stovetop first, as a general rule of thumb. Avoid taking a "peek" at the cooking during the first 3/4 of cooking time. Only take cover off to stir. Constant peeking may mean adding to cooking time Never add cold water to a hot crockpot insert! This may result in cracking. When you go to cl...

I used a 1.75 lb sirloin tip roast from one of our local grass fed farming outfits, the Hogan Magnolia View Farm. I washed off the meat but left on the netting so there would be more room in the Crockpot for the olives and beans.Lean grass-fed roasts can easily dry out if you cook them on top of the veggies or other food in the slow cooker, so be sure to put the meat on the bottom. Add the roast to the slow cooker and spoon over the black beans with juice. Season the meat and beans with the sea salt and pepper.Cut apples into thin slices (keep the skin on) and discard the seeds and stem. Roughly chop the onion and set aside. Vegan Barley Casserole Via Crockpot
2007-10-30 11:20:00
The first recipe I chose to make for Crockpot Week is "Barley Casserole," which I found online. The recipe was simple enough; I made it easier by using a package of pre-cut mixed celery/onion I purchased at Meijer, adding in a little bit more onion (again, pre-chopped but from the freezer section!). Also, I didn't use fresh garlic, but the pre-minced kind in a jar. The only real prep work I had to do was chop a green pepper. Everything else was open and pour. :)Overall this meal was pretty good, palatable to my omni fiance, too. It was kind of like a real thick tomato-based soup. We ate it with some rosemary olive oil bread. However, we both agreed the dish needs... je ne sais quoi. Something needs to be added to take this dish from "pretty good" to "Wow." It definitely has potential and I hope to fool around with it someday to make it better.Vegan Barley CasserolePrep Time: 20 minutes. Cook Time: 8 hours. Get Ready for Crockpot Week!
2007-10-29 18:12:00
Heh.I've decided to make mostly crockpot dinners this week. Something about coming home from work and having a DONE meal turns me on. Seriously. A previous BF of mine once gave me a crockpot for Valentine's Day. I was a little miffed at first, but once he explained that having our meals cooked when we got home would leave time for other things.... *wink, wink* ... well, let's just say I warmed up to the idea quickly. :)Besides, I don't use my slow cooker nearly enough as I should. Mainly, I use it to make my veggie chili. But, I know there's a whole world of slow cooking out there. It's time to become part of it.I've picked out three recipes and purchased ingredients for them. I'm making the first meal tonight (actually it's cooking as I type!). Check back tomorrow and the remainder of the week for stew, soup and casserole recipes a la crockpot.
Aus dem Crock Pot: Wildreis und Walnuss Pilaw
2007-10-26 00:00:00
Butter1/2  Zwie-bel, fein gewürfelt250Gramm Champignons,- braun2Stangen Sellerie, in dünne Scheiben ...

Suppe der Woche: Kürbis-Apfelsuppe aus dem Slowcooker
2007-10-12 00:00:00
Butter2mittl. Zwiebeln3S-tangen Sellerie, mit Blättern1kg Hokkaido-Kürbis2  Ä-pfel, ca. 250 g1,2Ltr. Hühnerfond oder Wasser2  Zimtstangen, ca. 5 g6  Nelken6  Pimentkörner   Sal-z   Pfeffer, frisch gemahlenH ZUM SERVIEREN   Schnittlauchröllche-n   Saure Sahne Quelle  Lynn Alley. Suppe der Woche: Zwiebelsuppe aus dem Slowcooker
2007-10-04 00:00:00
==========REZKONV-Rezept - Rezkonv...

I will be resuming my adventures in Crockpotting again soon
2007-07-11 22:41:00
A very special person sent me a gorgeous, brand-new Cuisinart crockpot, and I can barely wait to use it! Right now I do not have any roasts in my freezer, so I am looking for any chicken breast crockpot recipes that may be out there. Or maybe I should make one of those dessert recipes (yummy-ness - is that a word??) that I have been dying to try! I'm not sure, but it WILL be used.Meanwhile, there will be no cooking in the kitchen, no cleaning of the house, no sex in the Champagne room (hee!). It's just too humid and hot. And yes, to those who deal with high heat indexes, high humidity, 90+ temperatures all summer long, I know I am a big wimp. I know I'm a wimp in the winter and the summer. Now, off to go dump water all over these kidlets again and enjoy a nice warm day outside!
