Landis, Carpenter and Cronenberg Talk Horror
2007-11-08 23:02:00 I was doing research for another post from earlier today when I stumbled on an interesting roundtable discussion between horror masters John Landis, John Carpenter and David Cronenberg. I can’t find any other information on the show other than to note that it appears to be some sort of TV or special that I can’t find a listing of anywhere. If it weren’t for the video proof, I doubt anyone would know it even exists. From the projects they’re discussing and the little information I can find, this dates back to 1982. Landis discusses An American Werewolf in London, John Carpenter is on about The Thing and David Cronenberg shares insights into Videodrome. It’s a really interesting discussion about effects and you get a real sense of camaraderie from the directors talking about each other’s projects. 2006-12-06 04:51:01 David Cronenberg is a tricky director to get acquainted with. A movie like A History of Violence is fairly accessible to a wide audience. Someone then wanting to become a Cronenberg fan may pick up one of the following movies that I viewed for the first time this past weekend. Spider As with many Cronenberg films, most people will either love this or hate it. It is slowly paced, very slowly paced so I would be surprised about anyone who says they were indifferent. In my case I was intrigued from the beginning. I thought there might be something wrong with my audio until people other than Dennis Cleg (Ralph Fiennes) started to speak. Cleg is bizarre and obviously haunted by his past. The story revolves around him coming to grips with what he thought had happened when he was a child and what actually happened. An apparently schizophrenic man is admitted to a halfway house after he has served an undisclosed prison sentence. Flashbacks to his childhood show his father as an unfaithfu...
