Croque Monsieur For Hubby

I did this for our lunch. I’ve been missing the croque monsieur in Waterfront Hotel in Cebu. I know that I am a trying hard woman trying to copy their presentation but I honestly couldn’t follow it. I am not an expert. No matter what I do, theirs look very professional still while mine on ...
Love Story: He won croquet … and her heart
2007-10-22 11:16:00
DEBORAH SHOUSEIn the fall of 1999 Avis Garrett and a group of Scandinavian friends were enjoying a game of croquet on her front lawn.A man wearing a suit showed up and joined the game.“I was not excited about seeing this man in a suit,†says Avis, who was then 64. “I thought he looked like a stuffed shirt.â€But she was impressed when the “stuffed shirt†won the game. She soon learned that Jeremy Baptist, then 59, was an interesting man with a good sense of humor. When Jeremy found out Avis was an artist, he invited her to the Plaza Art Fair the next weekend. The rain poured while they were at the art fair. They ended up wet and laughing at a Plaza restaurant, where they ate and talked. And talked. They had a lot in common. They were both widowed with large, close-knit families. They were both working with children who had autism, Jeremy as a doctor and Avis as an art therapist.“We enjoyed being together,†Jeremy says. They continued the croquet games and started going to...

Urban Croquet
2007-10-05 20:56:00
One of the last Anglo pastimes to be mined for its kitschy irony, croquet is getting a makeover for playing in cemented environments. A concept in conjunction with Adidas, Alice Kaiserswerth redesigned the croquet set for use in urban areas, liberating the sport from its stuffy past on English lawns. With its clever design, the hoops can be stuck in grass, like traditional versions, or flip them upside down and a weighted top adapts them for hard surfaces. The ball features raised dots, enabling traction and the durable plastic material can take scuffs and bumps from asphalted surfaces. The revamped equipment even includes a new Adidas croquet shoe that features a recessed circle in the sole to hold the ball in place and extra protection on the side for when you miss the ball and hit your foot. Mallets fold away into a colorful carrying case for portability. Look out for a pick-up game in a parking lot near you. via Yanko

Classic Recipe -- Clam Croquettes
2007-09-26 08:43:00
The Boston Fish Pier Recipes for Sea Food (1913) Drain thoroughly and cook two quarts of opened clams until tender with an ounce of butter, a little broth, white pepper, and ground mace -- mace may be omitted. Drain again in a colander. Save the liquid and chop the clams fine. Fry a scant tablespoonful of chopped shallot in two ounces of butter until slightly brown and add one ounce of sifted flour. Mix well and then stir in one pint of the liquid you have saved. Stir and boil five minutes. Then add the yolks of four eggs, a dash of red pepper, the chopped clams, and a little finely chopped parsley. Stir constantly and boil two minutes. Add the juice of one lemon. Turn on a dish to cool. Form the mixture in sixteen oblong pieces. Dip in beaten egg, then in cracker crumbs, and fry a light brown. Drain on a brown paper. Serve with a garnish of fried parsley and quartered lemon.Yummy

Indiana Farmhouse Croquettes
2007-08-28 17:56:00
Back in the 70's, when I was going to college in Ohio, I had the chance to travel around the Midwest quite a bit.  One time I was in Indiana and I remember eating at a farmhouse restaurant where I had some wonderful ham croquettes that I still think about from time to time.  I've tried to recreate them in my kitchen many times over and this recipe is the end result.  Use a good quality smoked ham to achieve an earthy, robust  flavor and remember... wherever you go, there you are!  Read More...
Sweet Potato Crawfish Croquettes
2007-08-22 13:51:00
Today's recipe comes from my first cookbook, Voodoo In The Kitchen, which I self-published in 1992. Sadly, it's out of print!  These croquettes make a nice little menu item for a cocktail party.  For folks who don't like seafood, a nice substitution for the crawfish is some finely diced corned beef and a dash of horseradish!  You can even do a vegetarian version by adding some roasted vegetables.  Have some fun and experiment with the ingredients!Read More...

Croquette with hidden treasure

You know how you can use the same ingredients to cook it it many different ways. In this dish, I have used the two main ingredients, pork and fish paste, in this dish before and the kids like both dishes. Yeah, kids always like fried food. It's crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and with a surprise too. Just let the picture do the talking. *wink* Ingredients:100g Minced Pork100g Fish Paste5 Hard-Boiled Quail Eggs BreadcrumbsOil for frying How to do it:Mix pork and fish paste together.Scoop about 2 - 3 tablespoons of paste onto your (clean) palm.Place an egg in the middle.Fold in the paste so that it covers the egg.Cover it with breadcrumbs.Shape it with your palms before frying it.Remove when it turn golden brown.Drain and serve with assorted sauce. Note:Batter is not required first as the breadcrumbs can stick to the meat.http://feeds.feedburner.co-m/wokkingmum

Croquet- Quintessentially English
2007-07-30 10:31:00
Croquet is the quintessential upper-class English summer sport. It is the reserve of the well-spoken, wealthy gentlemen of London and the Home Counties. And it needs to remain so. Don?t get me wrong, Croquet is a fantastic game. It looks beautiful, strictly laid out on an immaculate lawn, coloured balls dancing through elegant white hoops, white trousers and collared shirts betraying its ancient English heritage. It goes so well with sunshine, barbeques and Pimm?s summer cocktails...read more

The Open Source Distributed P2P 3D Virtual Environment - Croquet
2007-07-25 22:25:00
Back in October of 2006 the GBLabs team began exploring the 3D collaborative virtual environment of Secondlife, We purchased an Island (Back in March 2007) and are doing extensive work (even still !) to create a "universe" for teachers to collaborate virtually in. For the the past 4-5 months it has occured that we need several approach's in the 3D environments space. To go along with the Secondlife "Universal" collaborative space I have been poking around on several "Local Greenbush" hosted options.... One interesting project is Croquet (you have read me post about OpenSim?). Croquet is "The Open Source Distributed P2P 3D Virtual Environment ".. there is no central server ... in the spirit of P2P networks every participant is also a potential host. I will continue to explore Croquet... my next task is to build some ojetcs.... I will keep you posted through this blog on my discoveries ! http://croquetconsortium.org/in-dex.php/Main_Page

I picture this woman playing croquet in Martha's Vinerard while her Cavalier King Charles spaniel nips at her ankles, and her three piece-suited husband puffs his pipe and reads The Wall Street Journal. Doesn't this outfit say East Coast sophisticate and Ivy League? Don't you suddenly want an apéritif and a cigarette?(pic from FaceHunter)

Fruit & Vegetable Croquet
2007-03-16 23:59:00
It's not often that you find a game that is so awe-inspiringly brilliant that it makes you wonder why you ever played anything else. Fruit and Vegetable Croquet is one such game - and I found it listed and described in Deep Fun an excellent and informative website from master funsmith Bernie DeKoven Each player obtains an old pair of ladies tights and places a heavy-ish vegetable or fruit down one of the legs. The tights are then tied about the waist of the player so that the dangling fruit hangs near ground level between his legs. An orange is substituted for the croquet ball. The aim of the game is for each player to swing the laden tights between his legs so that the fruit inside strikes the 'orange' ball and sends it in the direction required. All the normal rules of croquet apply - or you could change it into just a first past the line speed race. The sight of grown men swinging their hips in a Shakira-like-fashion in order to get a nylon enclosed dangling squash hit an oran...
