DIGITAL BORDER CROSS
2012-01-04 18:58:00 In an obvious sign of the times The Guardian reports how Canadian citizen, Martin Reisch, was able to successfully cross over into the United States using an iPad that displayed scanned version of his passport. As the story goes, Martin had forgotten his physical passport at home, two-hours back in Montreal. It was a longshot, he admits, but after telling border agents about how he was delivering Christmas gifts for his friend's kids and showing them the digital document, it was a go. Granted, it probably won't happen all the time, it was great for Mr. Reisch to know that his scanned version went a long way. He's even got hopes about it officially being instated:

Drummond Breaks Out In UConn's 77-40 Win Over Holy Cross
2011-12-18 20:50:00 In the first nine games of the UConn Huskies men's basketball season, we've seen Andre Drummond barely scratch the surface of his potential. On Sunday afternoon, he broke through it. Drummond led the way with a career-high 24 points to help the Huskies to a 77-40 win over the Holy Cross Crusaders in front of 13,396 at the XL Center in Hartford, CT. The Huskies improve to 9-1 on the season while the Crusaders fall to 4-7. Drummond's career-high on came on 11-of-12 shooting from the floor while pulling down eight rebounds and five blcoked shots. Alex Oriakhi added 15 points and four rebounds. Despite shooting 4-of-16 from the floor, Jeremy Lamb added 10 points and seven rebounds. Shabbaz Napier chipped in with a career-high 13 assists, many of them coming to Drummond while scoring just three points. Norwich, CT native R.J. Evans paced the Crusaders with 15 points. Phil Beans added eight points while Dave Dudzinski led Holy Cross with seven rebounds. With the final margin of the gam...

UConn Women Open Up Season With Win Over Holy Cross
2011-11-13 22:32:00 New season, new faces, even an old one is back for the UConn Huskies women's basketball team. And as most of the state of Connecticut expects them to do, it was another UConn win on Sunday afternoon at Gampel Pavilion. Bria Hartley led the way for the Huskies (1-0) with 17 points as they easily took care of business in a 77-37 win over the Holy Cross Crusaders in front of a small crowd of 6,548 fans. Hartley also added six assists but did have five turnovers. Tiffany Hayes added 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks while Stefanie Dolson chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds. Caroline Doty returned to action for the first time since the 2010 NCAA Championship game and had nine points and five rebounds. Heather Buck had a nice game off the bench with six points and six rebounds. Amy Lepley, Brisje Malone and Alex Smith all had eight points to lead Holy Cross (0-2). Lepley led the Crusaders with five rebounds with four others adding four. They were...

India is The Biggest Market In Facebook’s Cross-hairs: Gartner
2011-08-05 06:53:00 When you have a country of over a billion people and a market full of internet enabled devices along with cheap data rates and minimal internet censorship, a Web Revolution waiting to take place. Internet enabled devices with access to popular Social Networking sites like Facebook have penetrated a large portion of the market. People from all strata of society now have access to the World Wide Web at the touch of a finger. Take, for instance, Darshana Verma, a 36-year old domestic helper living in a slum in Northern Mumbai. She spent half of her monthly income ( around Rs. 15,000) on a mobile phone for her children. She says, “This is the Internet age. Facebook is is very crucial for my children — they make friends and maybe they can even find jobs there.†She is not the only one buying a web enabled mobile. There were 176 Million mobile phone purchases last year in India alone and while most of them were low priced phones, they still have access to the internet. Its...

Use ASP.NET?s HttpHandler to bridge the cross-domain gap
2011-08-02 16:59:00 When you’re developing client-side applications, a problem you’ll almost inevitably have to deal with is how to work with services that reside outside your website’s domain. Though many modern APIs do support JSONP, which is a clever workaround to somewhat mitigate the cross-domain problem, JSONP has its own problems. Worse, if you encounter an API ... You've been reading Use ASP.NET’s HttpHandler to bridge the cross-domain gap, originally posted at Encosia. I hope you enjoyed it, and thanks for reading. Blue Cross California Uses False Data To Reject Applicant
2011-07-12 17:12:00 Blue Cross of California is full of it. This blogger, seeking lower health care costs than the half-million dollars Kaiser was charging each month (really almost $500), quit Kaiser, and applied to join Blue Cross of California and under what seems to be a far more reasonable plan. But Blue Cross of California doesn't want you, er me, to have the plan, it seems. They claim to reject me for a "male reproductive system" problem. That's bullshit. And simply because I never told Blue Cross I had such a problem, and they never tested me, not even a blood test. By contrast, Kaiser actually bothered to send someone over to my place, take a blood sample, and test me. Maybe that's why the cost was so high? But whatever, Kaiser never rejected me, let alone said I had a "male reproductive system" problem. But Blue Cross? Now I see what the company's doing. In an interview they conducted with me about two weeks ago, almost, the interviewer kept asking questions that had nothin...
Develop Punching Power: Great for Cross-Training
2011-06-28 05:04:00 There are so many fantastic sport specific exercises for boxing, muay thai, MMA and kickboxing. I consider this to be a fundamental exercise. It offers a true application of straight punches. The difficulty with this exercise is that you need to know how to punch before adding it to your routine. This exercise expects you to have great form and technique. The beauty of this exercise is how it teaches you to completely integrate your legs and core into each punch. Furthermore, without good balance you will have a difficult time gaining the full benefit. I have been using this exercise for about 15 years. It helped me develop a lot of power in my straight punch. It is excellent...

Global Online Digital Content Market To Cross $150 Billion By 2012:Tavess
2011-06-10 13:09:00 Tavess, a research firm has come out with a report that says the global online digital content market would cross the $150 billion mark by 2012. Almost all computers have persistent internet connections, in many cases even cell phones do. Broadband rates are getting cheaper and the adoption rate of 3G is going up. Devices like tablets and smart phones enable users to consume content anywhere. This has obviously led to an increase in the quantity and quality of content available online. A lot of magazines have launched editions for the web, tablets and mobile phones. Companies like Netflix, Airtel, hulu, Bigflix and others are making TV content available on the web. The app development scene is so hot right now, that it has led people to speculate the arrival of a bubble similar to the one we saw in the dot com era. Everyday loads of new startups are launched that try to make app discovery better. Bit Torrent the widely shunned model of distribution is being used to deliver conte...

Tomorrow morning's cross examination of John Wyma- can Rod Blagojevich
2011-05-16 05:15:00 John Wyma's direct examination testimony presents numerous opportunities for tomorrow's cross examination by Blagojevich defense counsel to score point. The issues include, among others, John Wyma's discussions with Rahm Emanuel and with the Feds about Wyma's response to a request of the President for Blagojevich to appoint Valerie Jarrett to a Senate seat. The post suggests various lines of cross examination for defense counsel to pursue regarding the Children's Memorial deal and the charter school funding deal.

MNP Requests Cross 38 Lakh – But Are Operators Cooperating?
2011-03-09 15:53:00 So MNP is working when it comes to mobile subscribers asking for a shift. As per this article the number of such subscribers has hit 3.8 million which may be less than 1% of overall base but it still is a sizable number in the few months than MNP has been activated. The statistics of shift from various telecom circle’s stack up in the following way: Gujarat (3.65 lakh) Haryana (3.20 Lakh) Rajasthan (3.14 lakh) Karnataka (3.18 lakh) Tamil Nadu (2.76 lakh). Jammu and Kashmir 1291 So while customers might be asking for a change are operators budging easily and processing the requests easily as well? I dont think so.. I recently applied for a MNP request for one of my older Vodafone numbers to be shifted to MTNL (because I wanted 3G). They firstly refused on account of non payment. So I paid off whatever was due then post that there have been incessant delays on various accounts. Recently when we contacted them they asked us the reason for the shift and then told us “Si...
