Nightly Ramble: Crucifixion,Zimbabwe, our place in the world,New low for BDS
2008-04-28 22:42:00
So Jeremiah Wright is now saying he’s been subject to a public crucifixion. I suppose it’s no shock that we all create God in our own image, but it’s one of the few tines I’ve ever heard of Christ being favorably compared to a racist loudmouthed loser like Wright. I’d like to suggest that Wright is an idiot, except that this nonsense is too clearly calculated. The recounts in Zimbabwe have reconfirmed the opposition victory. Mugabe is bye bye, assuming he actually accepts the verdict of the people. So much for the myth of our standing in the world being damaged by Iraq. Not true, says Mike Green via a report found by McQ. Ah, yes… protesting the war by beating the living crap out of someone in a wheelchair. There’s s special place in hell for such people. So, Amy Winehouse is still looking very much like a train wreck. Big shock, this. Hmmm. Perhaps all that screaming at McCain about growing a spine that we bloggers did is starting to have ...

Crucifixion In Pampanga, Philippines
2008-03-22 02:35:00
I was about to leave yesterday to witness the crucifixion in Pampanga, town province of the country Philippines, but I rather stay at my retail business because I badly needed big sales. Although, I have seen that before in the province of Calumpit, Bulacan, I still would want to see it again to take videos. I will do that next year. Most of the population in the Philippines are Roman Catholics. Some people want to be crucified as part of their penitence. They repent by crucifying themselves. Now, I got this video from youtube.
Crucifixion rites held in San Pedro Cutud every Good Friday
2008-03-21 09:52:00
Just like last year, I found myself in San Pedro Cutud in San Fernando, Pampanga today to witness the Via Crucis, a Kapampangan passion play which has been the heart of the annual crucifixions here in the city, which is more popularly know as the San Pedro Cutud Lenten Rites. As the crucifixions are highlighted, many fail to recognize that they are part of an old cultural tradition of the barangay, a passion play written in the vernacular, which has been passed on from generation to generation. In fact, it's already in the third generation of the Navarro clan.I was pleasantly surprised that vehicles are now allowed to enter San Pedro Cutud. And it was even more pleasant when I saw that there was ample parking at the site. In previous years, it was a long 2 kilometer walk from the gate of the barangay under the heat of the scorching summer sun. While waiting for the Via Crucis to arrive, flagellants would climb the hill and pay homage at the foot of the cross ending their annual Lente...
Crucifixion not good for your health
2008-03-21 09:40:00
Philippine health officials have warned people taking part in Easter crucifixions and self-flagellation rituals to get a tetanus shot first and sterilise the nails to avoid infections. Every Good Friday in this predominantly Roman Catholic South-East Asian nation dozens of men re-enact the crucifixion of Jesus Christ by having themselves nailed to wooden crosses. At the same time hundreds of others, mostly men, strip to the waist and whip themselves until their backs are cut and bloody as a way of atoning for their sins over the past year.

Tips for a Healthy Crucifixion

I wonder if Mel Gibson ever spent Easter in the Philippines… MANILA (AFP) - Philippine health officials Wednesday warned people taking part in Easter crucifixions and self-flagellation rituals to get a tetanus shot first and sterilise the nails to avoid infections. Every Good Friday in this predominately Roman Catholic Southeast Asian nation dozens of men re-enact ...
The earliest known narrative portrayal of the Crucifixion
2008-03-11 21:03:00
Panel from an ivory casket: the Crucifixion of ChristHeight: 7.500 cm; Width: 9.800 cmLate Roman, AD 420-30Probably made in RomeThe British Museum, London The British Museum in its website describes the above panel as follows:"This plaque is one of four, which though now separated, must originally have been mounted on the four sides of a small square casket. Each is carved with scenes from Christ's Passion. The other panels depict the Christ carrying the Cross, the empty Sepulchre and Doubting Thomas. This is the earliest known narrative portrayal of the Crucifixion. It is combined with another scene of death, the hanging of Judas. The stiff, clothed body of Judas pulls down the branch of a tree and a spilled sack of coins lies at his feet.In contrast the exposed limbs of Christ appear still vigorous, and He gazes at the viewer, triumphant in death.A plaque over Christ's head is inscribed REX IUD[AEORUM] ('King of the Jews').Mary and John stand in similar poses to the left of the c...
A Medical View of the Crucifixion (Part 2)
2008-02-22 13:00:00
This is an amazing view of our Lord's love for us. If you are not moved by this account then something is wrong with you! Please take the time to read this through. I know that it is long, yet I guarantee that you will not regret that you read this. If you have not read the first part of this article, please take the time to do so (click here)."The heavy beam of the cross is then tied across His shoulders, and the procession of the condemned Christ, two thieves and the execution detail, begin it?s slow journey. The weight of the heavy wooden beam, together with the shock produced by copious blood loss is too much. He stumbles and falls. The rough wood of the beam gouges into the lacerated skin and muscles of the shoulders. He tries to rise, but human muscles have been pushed beyond their endurance. "At Golgotha the beam is placed on the ground and Jesus is quickly thrown backward with His shoulders against the wood. The legionnaire feels for the depression at the front of the...
A Medical View of the Crucifixion (Part 1)
2008-02-21 12:07:00
Recently I was nosing through one of my old college textbooks and I came across this portrayal of the crucifixion in ?The Crucifixion of Jesus? By C. Truman Davis . This is such a powerful testament to God's love toward us! Please take the time to read it and think about it. Spend time musing this article."The physical trauma of Christ begins in Gethsemane with one of the initial aspects of His suffering- the bloody sweat. It is interesting that the physician of the group St. Luke, is the only on to mention this. He says, ?And being in agony, He prayed the longer. And his sweat became as drops of loose blood, trickling down upon the ground.? "Though very rare, the phenomenon of hemathidrosis, or bloody sweat, is well documented. Under the great emotional stress, tiny capillaries in the sweat glands can break, thus mixing blood with sweat. This process alone could have produced marked weakness and possible shock. "After the arrest in the middle of the night, Jesus was brought b...

Christ’s crucifixion wasn't as excruciating as painted, claims noted
2008-02-03 12:07:00
A noted literary theorist has sparked fury among Christians by uttering that the Crucifixion of Christ was not as bad as it has been painted, during a radio show which is scheduled for broadcast later this month.   Terry Eagleton, Professor of Cultural Theory at the University of Manchester, said so at BBC Radio 4's programme ‘Lent Talks’.   It is learnt that he said that Jesus's scourging was a "blessing in disguise" because it hastened his death. "The Crucifixion of Jesus wasn't as bad as its been painted. All things considered, he got off pretty lightly," the Telegraph quoted him as saying.   "If the New Testament account is to be believed it took him only three hours to die whereas a lot of those killed by this hideous mode of execution thrashed around on their crosses for days," he added.   The paper reports that Eagleton concluded his talk with an attack on contemporary Christianity, claiming that it had abandone...

How Would The Mass Media Of Today Report The Crucifixion?
2008-01-26 19:24:00
Reading all the hoopla surrounding the deaths of famous people like the recently-departed Heath Ledger and others in years past made me just wonder what today’s mass media might say about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ if the event were to be set in these days. It just amazes me sometimes how much people grieve and ...

Emanuel Kaja: The Crucifixion
2007-06-04 09:53:00
Fr Ray Blake reports that Emanuel Kaja has installed his crucifixion in St Mary Magdalen, Upper North Street, Brighton."It just looks like a confusion of floating stones, from the front looking directly at it they form a pixelate image of the body of Christ."The pictures of the art and the composition are on Fr Ray`s website. The reaction appears to be favourable.

Crucifixion Rituals and Other Fetishes
2007-04-10 03:46:00
Over Easter in San Pedro Cutud, a village in the Philippines, the locals weren't unwrapping chocolate eggs, they were enacting masochistic rituals on a grand scale. All in the name of religion of course.Tourists watched as half naked penitents wondered around flagellating themselves with bamboo sticks, until blood was dripping down their backs. Down the road a ways, other masochists were being nailed to cavalry sized crosses. And I actually do mean nailed. Five inch nails were driven into their hands and feet with the aid of a hammer. All of this to atone for sin. A motive that got lost in the fetishistic blood fest, eagerly captured by tourists armed with cameras. It has also been noted that the S & M activities which have put San Pedro Cutud on the map, help to generate tourist dollars.Christianity has a long history of self-inflicted torment. Opus Dei ( a latin term meaning "work of God"), is a Catholic organization with about 85,000 members. Corporal mortification is recommende...

Bible Doctrine :: RE: A Medical Account of Crucifixion
2007-03-02 15:31:01
Author: Eric Posted: Wed Feb 28, 2007 2:00 pm (GMT -5) It's amazing what God went through for us. It is so easy to take the full reality of it for granted. We'll actually never understand how much our sin costs. But we can understand (and frequently forget) that God put on flesh, became a man, and walked among us. He, as Jesus Christ was 100% man. He felt ALL of the pain of this world. This is totally unimaginable considering we are each only one person, but he bore ALL of everyones' sins! We do know pain, it is real. But it is good to remember that He knows it most. He understands it all full well. He did it willingly that we might be saved through His blood. And yes, He felt pain far exceeding what we could ever endure because of our transgressions. How good to us He is. Let us praise Him forever!!! Amen. -Eric
Bible Doctrine :: A Medical Account of Crucifixion
2007-02-11 03:17:01
Author: Patrick Subject: A Medical Account of Crucifixion Posted: Sat Feb 10, 2007 8:44 pm (GMT -5) A Physician Testifies About the Crucifixion By: Dr. C. Truman Davis About a decade ago, reading Jim Bishop's "The Day Christ Died", I realized that I had for years taken the Crucifixion more or less for granted - that I had grown callous to its horror by a too easy familiarity with the grim details and a too distant friendship with our Lord. It finally occurred to me that, though a physician, I didn't even know the actual immediate cause of death. The Gospel writers don't help us much on this point, because crucifixion and scourging were so common during their lifetime that they apparently considered a detailed description unnecessary. So we have only the concise words of the Evangelists: "Pilate, having scourged Jesus, delivered Him to them to be crucified-and they crucified Him." I have no competence to discuss the infinite psychic and spiritual...
Theology for beginners (6): Crucifixion
2006-08-24 03:03:02
Summary: The mission of Jesus ended in death by crucifixion. The young wandering prophet and rabbi, Jesus of Nazareth, was executed by state authorities around the year 30 CE. From one point of view, we might conclude that his mission had been a failure. He was put to death on a cross ? a symbol of death and defeat, like a hangman?s noose or an electric chair. Yet the cross of Jesus, in all its offensive bleakness, forms the great climax of Jesus? mission ? and, indeed, the climax of the whole story of God?s journey with Israel. At the decisive turning-point of Jesus? life, he and his followers left Galilee for Jerusalem. In Jerusalem, Jesus was welcomed jubilantly as the inaugurator of God?s new kingdom. But Jesus sharply provoked the religious authorities in Jerusalem. While the city?s Temple was at the very heart of Israel?s religious, economic and political life, Jesus prophesied the destruction of the Temple, and he performed a violent symbolic cleansing of the Temple court...
