R-Crypto
2009-09-23 15:43:00 R-Crypto is a disk encryption software to protect confidential information and personal data on a desktop, notebook, or a removable data storage device against unauthorized access. R-Crypto creates virtual disks (virtual data storage devices) encrypted on-the-fly. Such virtual disk is an ordinary file stored on any data storage device whether it's a hard drive, USB-disk, CD, DVD, or a network resource. An access to any information on the virtual encrypted disk is impossible unless user provides a correct password. All files stored on the disks are encrypted and decrypted in a real time using the cryptographic infrastructure of the Microsoft Windows operating system that includes various installable cryptographic service providers already pre-installed in Windows OS. For example Microsoft provides the most secure encryption algorithm Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with 128, 192, and 256 bit keys. The software has an ability to automatically disconnect the encrypted disks upon en...

Debian fixes serious crypto bug
2008-05-14 01:14:00 Debian has warned of a vulnerability in its cryptographic functions that could leave systems open to attack. The use of a cryptographically flawed pseudo random number generator in Debian's implementation of OpenSSL meant that potentially predictable keys were generated. Versions of Debian's OpenSSL packages starting with 0.9.8c-1 (released in September 2006) are potentially vulnerable.

My Best Friend Lied to Me About Crypto Sporidium
2008-04-25 20:49:00 Cryptosporidium lives in the intestine of infected humans or animals. Millions of crypto parasites can be released in a bowel movement from an infected human or animal. Consequently, Cryptosporidium is found in soil, food, water, or surfaces that have been contaminated with infected human or animal feces. The most common symptom of cryptosporidiosis is watery diarrhea. A ...

2008-04-24 14:56:00 Probably most proper microcontroller programming method is using a bootloader program. Encryption Solutions Get Boost from Data Breaches
2008-04-07 19:46:00 I’ve had a rash of phone calls lately from vendors saying “did you hear?” and using that to leverage their product offering. I can’t blame them. I know they have to make a buck. Here is an article over on “Enterprise Security Today” that points to this boost in sales. Data breaches leave organizations vulnerable to ...

The coming left crypto-narrative: McCain is too old
2008-03-20 16:06:00 A few months back, Somebody at NRO said that he expects Obama to subtly make an issue of McCain's race by saying how he "honors McCain's many many many many years of service," which Obama, in fact, did soon afterwards (It could also be a way of dealing with Obama's huge stature gap.). I expect McCain's age to be a not-so-subtext of the Obama campaign just like Hillary has used plausibly-deniable race references against Obama. In reading a few blog and forum comments, I've noticed that the hateful left has seized upon this attack line with a vengeance, mentioning Alzheimer's, diapers, and all manner of thoughtful criticisms. I wonder how many liberals the left would have to shut up because of age? Chomsky, Carter; I can think of a bunch. But, who cares? Who takes the left seriously, anyways? I'll play a Letterman clip, who's become more of an "out" liberal, clip below. Much more hateful ones could be found, but they give me the creeps. There's some Clinton and Obama ones...

Crypto-Criminology - The Gothic Nature of Crime
2008-02-25 18:26:00 Crypto-criminology refers to the dark, devious and dangerous side of human nature. That strain of humanistic proclivity that crosses the boundaries of civility into brutality. This is a realm of "practical criminology", applicability to the real world, where human behavior defies profiling, prediction and precise definition. Such an investigation descends to the depths of human depravity, to damp gloomy dungeons of mental mayhem. For which, modern science has no useful, effective and efficient means to explain all the possibilities. Of course, myth, magic and metaphor are allusions constantly present within this region of discussion. In one sense, it's the exploration of human evil and all its inherent manifestations. And, in another sense, crypto-criminology seeks to delve into the mystery of why people commit crimes. This is an assessment of criminal behavior to walk the eerie landscape of human deviance that foments criminality. The search for modern explanations includes consid...

Cold Boot Attacks on Encryption Keys
2008-02-21 21:22:00 Interesting reading. From Princeton.edu: Contrary to popular assumption, DRAMs used in most modern computers retain their contents for seconds to minutes after power is lost, even at operating temperatures and even if removed from a motherboard. Although DRAMs become less reliable when they are not refreshed, they are not immediately erased, and their contents persist sufficiently for ...

CRYPTO 2006 / hash function workshop
2007-02-11 17:36:05 CRYPTO 2006, the 26th annual cryptology conference, was held in Santa Barbara last week. Several results particularly caught the attention of RSA Laboratories' researchers, including a few that I'll summarize within the space (and time) available for a brief note: Elad Barkan, Eli Biham, and Adi Shamir, in their paper "Rigorous Bounds on Cryptanalytic Time/Memory Tradeoffs," showed that the classical tradeoff due to Martin Hellman from 1980 is just about optimal. These tradeoffs received renewed interest due to the rainbow table approach to recovering a password P, given its hash value H(P). A brute-force attack tries all likely passwords to see if any has the correct hash... |
